Odd CTD in Greywinter Watch

Hey all ?

Just reinstalled Skyrim to give it another go, yet sadly after putting some hours into it I ran into a crash in Greywinter Watch. This crash looks very similar to the ones I had previously. Essentially once I start moving and fighting the trolls in there, the game will just crash after some time. There seems to be other people with a similar NetScript crash log, but I found no solution so far.

I'm not sure if this crash is specifically related to Greywinter Watch, but this is the first dungeon/cave I have crashed in during this playthrough.

Things to note:

  • After I cleared out a dungeon with Farkas, combat music was stuck on even after combat. I muted the music and moved on. Didn't cause me any issues so far, but maybe this could be related to my crash here ?
  • The NetScript crash log seems to reference things related to sound. In my papyrus log I was able to find this line that kept getting repeated every now and then.

[ (000A7EA9)].Sound.Play() - "<native>" Line ?
    [ (000B78EE)].HelgenRandomSoundScript.OnUpdate() - "HelgenRandomSoundScript.psc" Line 117

This is the second time I've had issue with something that references audio. Previously the issue was that I had Immersive Sounds Compendium installed. I have no clue how such a popular mod causes crashes for me, but once I deinstalled it my crashes were gone. Now another, but not identical crash log referencing audio. I tried deinstalling a magic sound overhaul, but this didn't do anything. I don't have many sound mods installed, especially none that would make sense to cause a crash in this troll cave.

Sometimes I also hear about an issue where audio is played in the wrong thread due to a memory issue, which causes crashes aswell. Yet I have no idea if this applies to me, or how I could check.

I'll provide my NetScript and papyrus log, and my load order.

If you search engine that script 'HelgenRandomSoundScript.psc' you'll notice that problem was first pointed out in 2012. (with repeated occurrence mentions since - none with a solution). Actually I don't have a pointer to , (erm), point you in. However if you are using a music replacer, (couldn't see one in your list, but it was only a cursory look), try changing, (or removing), any music file which pertains to that area, (with appropriate xEdit changes). (Obvousily not removing esp's, etc on the same  playthrough because that's just cancer. I assume you haven't done that, because changing load order mid game is just wrong. Not ducking on this, if your change your load order mid game your are just asking for trouble). Secondly there is a forum note thingy at https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/articles/3031  which might be of interest when tracking down ctds which are reported when using .NetFramework. You might want to try that avenue for more intelligent responses.

Wich audio mod are you using?

I'm using Airgetlam - Modern Magic Sounds Rework. Though the issue persists with the mod deactivated. Other than that, I got some mods that replace wolf and werewolf sounds. I really don't have much in terms of audio.

I didn't make any major changes to my load order, and also don't have any music replacers installed. But I will have a look at that article you posted. If I don't find anything, I'll dig around a little more and report back. ?
