So I used to be really big into playing Skyrim sinking hundreds of hours into a playthrough before jumping to another game for a bit and returning to binge a lot of skyrim. This was a bit before I got into really modding Skyrim out.

However, after discovering modding, my playtime has lessened instead of increased. It's not like I grab mods that make things easier for me, on the contrary, I like to up the difficulty and smooth things out in games to make things interact more fluidly.

However the actual process of modding a game with many mods takes a lot out of me and by the time I start playing I find myself getting... not bored but... just that kind of 'meh' feeling.

This especially becomes true with the lewd mods because... well.. lets just say some people have a high libido and when it comes to any stimulation of that nature... Well you get the idea. After such an event it takes the desire to play the game out of me and I play something else.

I'm just curious if there are others that feel similarly, that their experiences have been somewhat more diminished in skyrim because of lewd mods or just regular mods as a whole, that they spend less time playing on average with mods than before when everyone just played Vanilla. I know for me, despite all the cool and awesome mods I add into it, I just can't play Skyrim for very long anymore.

Yeah. I unfortunatly do the whole "go big or go home"-approach, basically trying to overhaul the entire game. By the time I have a working mod-list, after a whole bunch of testing to see if everything works right, I tend to play for a bit and then just... stop. Or re-start with a new character.

In contrast, my first playthrough I just booted up the game, created my first character, and never looked back until I had beaten the game. The constant bug and incompabilities when playing with mods is also an issue for actually playing a character to "completion".

Exactly my feel on this lol.

I'm the opposite, I probably wouldn't play Skyrim at all, if it wasn't for all the mods I can download. I've played through the vanilla game several times already and it doesn't hold for me interest now, except if I'm really in the mood, or have a new follower to play it through with.

I get your point about the uhm... downside of lewd mods, understandable.

I've noticed that with certain games, they help when drained, or something like this and if I add a lot cognitive load to the game (whether that be managing mods, having a cluttered inventory: looking at you ESO) then I just don't feel playing it anymore as a way to relax, or sink into something.

Well I can't even really play vanilla anymore. I have this NEED for mods now in my playthroughs, but going through the effort wears me out lol.

So yeah what ya said basically. I mean its not like my mods themselves add a lot of thought and I enjoy em once I have em. It's just I'm so worn out by the time everything works, I've lost interest in playing x.x

It frequently happens to me in Rimworld too lol. I'll get all 500+ of my mods set up (Now easier with Rimpy which has been a godsend in rebuilding mod lists easier which makes me last a bit longer with Rimworld now lol)

I wish I had something similar with Skyrim... hell I wish the Nexus content was available on the workshop that way it would be even easier resetting my mod list whenever I have to reupdate everything x.x

I'd never heard of Rimworld, an interesting game, very unique concept.

For sure, I hate that part of the process too. Honestly, one of my main wants for any game is don't load me up with burdensome things/tasks when I just want to chill out. If I have the energy for that, I'll probably do something creative instead.

Jesus man, I hear you. Especially with RimWorld. I used to sink hours into Rimworld but now I can't even be fucked after installing all my mods. Albeit my list is a lot lighter. Normally something around 50.

The issue I have with Rimworld and Skryim is at opposite points of the modding timeline. Normally with Skyrim I can put as many mods in as possible to modify and overhaul but at the end of the day, its pretty much a pig in make up aka, Still a pig...

Rimworld on the otherhand is pretty much a complete different game thanks to the ease of modding and creation of alternate assets. Where my main gripe with Rimworld arises though is towards the end of a playthrough, tech tree gets bloated. I have shit Ill never use or never need to research and the vanilla turtle tactics I've always used continue to work even in a modded game. The Final gripe with Rimworld though is the longer you play modded the slower and poorer the game runs.

This is why I've limited myself to about 50 mods that are all compatible with RimThreaded.

Heck I just got Covid today so who knows Maybe I'll spend the week trying RimWorld again lol.

Given the sheer length of time I've been messing with Skyrim, it's honestly hard to tell what's mods "ruining" the experience and what's just a combination of fatigue, familiarity, and a desire for something new doing it.

But with so many years of hindsight to look back on, I think I can safely (albeit not concretely) say that lewd mods have lessened my interested in the game proper.  I haven't seriously tried to play with 2017, save for a brief attempt in 2020 with SE that lasted a week consisting of maybe two sessions.  Too focused on getting booba to work, too much time considering what sort of body a character would have taking away from considering who that character is.  I can't even work through my serious alt-itis anymore because I spend so much time trying to craft a body and find and outfit that it drains my will to flesh out the character.  I still pop in for screenshots sometimes and still occasionally create a toon that sticks, but every year sees less and less.

Having said all that, I am quite confident it's not mods in general.  Mods do nothing but improve the game, it's how much and what kind that can have detrimental effects if you're not picky and careful.  Lewds aside, I have a very good idea what sort of mods I like and only install ones along those lines, so the integrity of the setting is maintained.  I still love Tamriel, I still love The Elder Scrolls, I just... maybe spend more time thinking about tits than I should is all.

Base skyrim is a bit rubbish innit? I can't imagine replaying that mess again, mods lewd or not are pretty much required for me. Also at some point its healthy to just... play other games, take a break from skyrim, play something new.

Resetting everything with updates... have you considered using Mod Organizer 2? It keeps everything separate from the game folder, so updates don't really affect it other than breaking the mods when bethesda changes something that fucks with them, but that is always gonna be an issue, just play special edition or LE while waiting for stable AE. Thats kinda main appeal to MO2 for me, easy to reset or even remake whole mod lists without having to start from the scratch. Are you actually just modding the game without any managers or just didn't setup clean profiles so you always just remake everything?

For me, base Skyrim was fun for about 10 hours, enjoyable from an exploration / finishing-the-game-perspective for about 30, then I was pretty much done. Modding's given it over 2000 more hours of life.

Bethesda games are so big and empty, they're always devoid of interesting content since Fallout3 / Oblivion, and thus, for me, need mods to have any form of longevity.

If Bethesda realises their control over modding through throttling everything through "their" mod arena, with and without monetized mods, I'm not seeing much future in their games for myself - especially considering the decentralized nature of the modding scene, and their tendency of having derivative mods making monetizing parts of the chain an absolute disaster. Without mods, there's not much interesting content in Bethesda games compared to other full-price titles, and there's so much other games to choose from. Time is at a premium, and I'm not wasting my time on a half-developed game that's left to the community to fix, if the community is also squeezed for income by a developer who has not had anything to do with the modded content creation.
