Guest Posted June 30, 2013 Posted June 30, 2013 Long story somewhat shorter. Micro stutters = action moves smoothly for 5 to 20 seconds, then freezes for a fraction of a second to 2 seconds, then works smoothly again for 5 to 20 seconds. Nearly unplayable, especially in a fight. It occurs every where and any time. inside and out, walking running or fighting or screwing, empty areas or crowded. My HDD light blinks on when it happens, but the HDD light blinks fairly often anyway. Micro stutter was a problem 6 months ago, but I fixed it with nvse stutter reducer. Everything was working great unitl 3 days ago, then it came back. I still have the stutter reducer installed too. unfortunately, about the same time Win7 had several security updates, Norton 360 updated - then started complaining about nvse and its extensions and forced a download and repair before I realizeed what was happening. ( repaired that "repair" and put all nvse related files in the exceptions list but it did not help). To make matters more confusing. I downloaded and installed the new compilation file and the updates to SCR, then uninstalled the compilation file and reverted to my original file set. What I have done so far: cleared cachetested CPU and GPU temps (normal range)cleaned up startup programscleaned up un-needed services(stress tested the following with various free testing software)RAMVRAMVideo CardFan speeds and efficiencyCPU, GPU, HDD (plus surface errors and defrag)------Shut off or disabled autoupdaters on everything that I could find.Everything check out as OK, Good, Normal etc.Still have micro-stutters load order: (NMM) any help here would be appreciated. brocules Posted June 30, 2013 Posted June 30, 2013 Is this problem present in both existing saves and new games?
RitualClarity Posted June 30, 2013 Posted June 30, 2013 Is this problem present in both existing saves and new games? My thought exactly brocules, the issue might be that your saved games have crud in them and that crud needs to be clean out. You might need to make a "clean save" that is disable most if not all the mods, start the game, manually create a save. Hit ~ save enternewnamehere no spaces in the name. (sorry if you already know how to make a clean save and manual save but still had to mention it for others that might have the same problem. In FOMM you can click the "disable all" button to clear the mods out. Later after creating a new clean save you can activate them one after another. Don't know how to do it in NMM. Or you can try and create a new game, separate from the game your running. Test with this new game. Since there is problems everywhere it doesn't matter if it is a new start unlike other issues where problems are directly resulting after a set of events or an area far away from the starting point. The above should fix the issue that you are having most of the time. I have had the same issues occasionally. Hopefully it does. One final point. The only supported mod manager for sexout (well that is supported by prideslayer that is) is FOMM. Most individuals here and as far as I know all the individuals that develop the majority of the mods on this site for FNV use FOMM. There can always be issues related to using different mod managers.
BruceWayne Posted June 30, 2013 Posted June 30, 2013 Basically everything that has been said. PN's esps are flagged as master files, but remain to be esps. I'm sure they had a very good reason for doing that, so I never bothered to change them. The problem you describe is something I encountered as well, with a similar load order like yours. I could trace the problem to tryouts and slavery. The problem was that the game gradually became more "stutter-y" without losing framerate. Microstutter turned into macro stutter and it all came down to a slideshow in places like freeside. My guess is that something in those mods is gradually growing, so of course you won't see these kinds of problems at the beginning of the game. But since you don't want to restart everytime you reach mid-game, this solution is semi-optimal at best. Since pride is back and working on them, it may or may not be that he fixed some of these issues, that existed when I tried the last time (versions dating to september 2012). IIRC not much has changed since then and last month.
Guest Posted June 30, 2013 Posted June 30, 2013 No luck fixing it so far. This micro stutter slowly builds from a properly running new game (with full load order enabled) to the point it becomes unplayable. Basicly after I have finished the intro sequences and quests, which work smoothly. By the time I am finished with Primm and meet Willow it is stuttering as described. If Slavery and Tryouts are causing save game bloating or some other type of bloat - sigh. Those are the two most important to me, It is still odd that I had no trouble at all with my original file set until after all the updates etc occurred. I had been able to go through the game as far as Freeside and many side quests and never once had even a minor stutter. This stuff is beyond my ability to solve. I think I am going to try a complete game rebuild starting from vanilla and see what happens. If it still occurs after that - will probably give up. Thanks for the info folks
RitualClarity Posted June 30, 2013 Posted June 30, 2013 Prides version is only compatible with SSR. (included in the latest Sexout .78. ) The page that has the newer version that Prideslayer has been working on is here. Before rebuilding try changing out the Tryouts with is new version and SSR.
Guest Posted June 30, 2013 Posted June 30, 2013 @ ritualclarity Thanks, glad I checked in again before I started. I'll give it a try first.
Guest Posted July 1, 2013 Posted July 1, 2013 :( No Joy. I spent most of today trying different combo's of Sexout mods. (on both new starts, and old saves) Stuttering only stopped when I removed absolutely all sexout related mods and files. This "no sexout installed at all" set up worked on the old save that caused me to start this thread, too. I DO NOT believe any sexout mod is the cause. I still suspect myself, my installation, my load order, even my option selections in MCM, or a combination of these. I have been my own worst enemy when it comes to this sort of thing. I am going to try one more time tomorrow, following the latest install guide, with new DL's of the requirements. Plus I will do it totally manually.... no mod managers. cross fingers. ps. I never touch the debug or other options in MCM that say "critical" or the like. I have no idea what debug options to turn on for what mods anyway.
RitualClarity Posted July 1, 2013 Posted July 1, 2013 If you are going to start from scratch try the following, If possible delete and clean up the folder and start completly from scratch. Install everything new. Verify that the game runs without any mods before you start. Maybe verify cache in Steam. Then: 1) Use FOMM to install sexout. Do Not Use NMM. 2) Follow the instructions found here. 3) Only use the most current Sexout found here. 4) For your sexout content only use the ones found here. 5) Add MCM for control of Sexout of course. Load nothing else until you are satisfied that the base is working well. That would mean that you would be playing 10 or so hours into the game to make sure that stuttering doesn't occur again. Run everything on default. Don't make any changes in the MCM. (Check to make sure it works but don't do any changes. ) See how that works for you. The above instructions should give you a stable game with little resources. SSR is designed to run on lower machines less intensive. Only the base game, DLCs and the above mods and instructions. That should help solve the problem. If you still have problems with a clean install and low intensity mods then there might be something wrong with the computer settings or hardware. I know of people having problems with programs because the Hard drive was too full. Others because their game settings were too high for their computer to handle. Finally start a completely new game... Yes from the beginning. It is so that you can test. Don't use any of your old saves. I just found out that one of my saves were corrupted and was causing me various problems. It took me much time to figure out finally it was the save itself that caused the problem.
Guest Posted July 1, 2013 Posted July 1, 2013 @ritualclarity - thanks for the concise guide and links. The last link is for SexoutNG - ESM Beta - is that the correct thing to do? or did you mean to send me to the downloads list or something like it? note: I discovered this morning that my AMD Radeon 6800 video card had reset itself to automatic overclocking at some point yesterday (probably I did it, my mouse finger does things on its own sometimes). I reset it to off. thanks for your help and patience. I feel like a total noob right now, although I have been using mods for over a year!
RitualClarity Posted July 1, 2013 Posted July 1, 2013 The link to the SSR beta will give you the Tryout mods that you are wanting. It won't be much else. Prideslayer has been working on fixing many of the scrips and such to make it more stable. You stated that you really wanted those anyway. remember don' t add anything else until you get the instructions to work properly. well unless the mighty prideslayer or one of the other mod authors give you advice of course... I was also thinking you might have a messed up .ini file for Fallout in your Documents folder. I had some serious stutter with a 7870 i believe. stutter that should nt ever happen with my setup. Made no sense. Later I figure out that it must of been that since I completely nuked my install when I returned the card and got a GTX670 instead. That was the only thing left that I hadn't done differently. Drivers and everything else was done correctly... I don't know how to fix the .ini file without deleting the entire game and starting from scratch. Others might though. I am sure it is a simple fix to get a nice new .ini file. Particularly if you upgraded graphic cards without resetting the file. Or so I have heard. I am moving beyond my normal knowledge level. I won't be able to help you much further. I pretty much gave you most of everything I know to try to fix this strange issue.
brocules Posted July 1, 2013 Posted July 1, 2013 I don't know how to fix the .ini file without deleting the entire game and starting from scratch. You can just delete the .ini files and then start the game once by using the default launcher, it will generate new .ini files.
Guest Posted July 1, 2013 Posted July 1, 2013 OK, thanks again. I am already past my knowledge level - lol
Guest Posted July 2, 2013 Posted July 2, 2013 Very long night, high frustration level, same problems. sigh. Good thing I am retired and no one cares if I spend 16 hours on the computer! lol At least my PC is now in top shape. At this point I am done trying to fix this. I am beginning to suspect my HDD health / speeds. A different stress test showed a graph for a 15 minute read/write test that started out at the high rates and then steadily dropped to very, very low rates along with intermittent extreme rate dropoff throughout the test. (deleted the test result and exe before I thought to copy the graph to show you) looked something like this: (forgive the old school "art") --------- ----- | ---------- | | | ---------- | | | | -------------- If anyone can interpret the above, I'd like to hear it. If I can afford it, I think I am switching to an SSD. Otherwise consider this thread closed.

If I can afford it, I think I am switching to an SSD. Otherwise consider this thread closed. As I stated before If you still have problems with a clean install and low intensity mods then there might be something wrong with the computer settings or hardware It is difficult to judge the info you are giving without actual numbers. I is like a blind man looking at the Mona Lisa. Sure someone can tell him about the half smile but the blind man wont truly understand. However it sounds like your hard drive isn't working to the standard that you need it to work at. When I posted the post that included my quote above I was seriously suspecting the drive having some issue, drivers, or viruses being the issue. They can be a real bitch to diag on a forum. Ok, Instead of dumping everything when you get a new SSD try loading Steam and your FNV folder onto the new SSD you get. It should make some differences. Just a test. You want to make sure that there isn't other problems before you start investing in upgrading your current computer. .. Oh yes I didn't think you can be running a laptop where the above might be more difficult. If that is the case keep your old HD safe until you are sure that the new SSD works to your satisfaction.
Guest Posted July 2, 2013 Posted July 2, 2013 Thanks again. I left out a lot of what I did and have. It is a home built low to middle grade desktop gaming pc (AMD Athalon II X3 455, AMD Radeon Series 6800 video card w/ 1 gb vram, 8 gb ram, Windows 7 64 bit, 500 gb seagate hdd); and I ran multiple virus and malware checkers including Norton & Spybot S&D. I also downloaded driver updates before I did the testing and cleaning I mentioned earlier. (including bios firmware, motherboard and processer, hdd, video card, sound card). The drive is probably the culprit. Lots of time and $ to replace now, but it beats the alternative.
RitualClarity Posted July 2, 2013 Posted July 2, 2013 Everything looks good so far. Sound like you have checked everything. That Seagate should be able to handle the job so long as it isn't almost full. I am sure you also defrag the drive as well while you worked the rest of the tasks mentioned. Yes a SSD cost $$$ however it is about 1$ or less per gig in many SSD's up to 512. Nice Dollar Rato that I don't see dropping soon. If $$ are short, hell they are short for everybody these days unless you are Donald Trump or Gates... Try just replacing the drive with another mechanical drive like this or this. ? I perfer the WD black myself. The reason I say this is if the drive is still reasonably good enough you can just clone the drive over. Later when $$$ are more available or the prices go down on SSD you can upgrade and use the drive you have as an external backup or data drive on the computer. Either of these should be able to handle the FNV even with mods. Just slower load times. For a few dollars you can hopefully fix the problem.
Guest Posted July 11, 2013 Posted July 11, 2013 followup - I am still saving for a new drive. (thanks for the tip on the WD drive btw) Micro stutters still exist, most noticeable when the game loads a message while I play, and they are less frequent. also did this: # reinstalled all mods with new manual downloads, and verified each and every one for proper size and proper installation. # added "purge cell buffers" mod (cleans up left overs in old cells - like bodies, dropped gear etc) # added CASM (cipsis' auto save manager) - don't think this helped micro stutter, but it sure helps with the 'do-overs' ## - slowed my play speed down, I am a run and gun type most of the time and the game as I have it modded and my drive can't keep up. I am now attempting to walk my character, use fast travel more, pause and use vats, etc. seems to help some. Tough to change play style, but it gives a whole new game experience.
BruceWayne Posted July 11, 2013 Posted July 11, 2013 Not sure if this has been mentioned before, but the New Vegas Stutter Remover can be of help here. Another trick is either turning off VSync for FNV in your graphics card settings or use the Fake Fullscreen mod from Nexus and turn VSync to adaptive, in case you get screen tearing with VSync off.

Saving for a new drive is great. .. try checking for drive errors. I don't remember if you did that. If you are showing errors or sectors missing or dammaged get a good backup or a brand new drive NOW or you will have to reload from scratch everything. At least make sure personal data, downloaded mods you are using etc are backed up. I mentioned the downloaded mods becasue they can take time to re-download and sometimes the version that you perfer or want is no longer available and you have to search and/or requiest that someone sends you that file .. a big headache. If you plan on a fresh install of everything including drivers (my favorite way of doing a HD replacemnt) then so long as you keep a nice backup of your personal data then you should be good to go. Make sure it is outside of your computer (the backup ) just incase some electrical failure occurs you don't distroy your data on an internal hard drive.

I can't strongly enough recomend the post that BruceWayne made. I never play Sexout or any mod for that matter without using the New Vegas Stutter Remover. It does wonders on both good and bad computers. It will help slow down things where they need to slow down. The other advices given I agree with however I personally don't use them becasue I don't need them. In your case it could very well be a good thing to try.
Guest Posted July 12, 2013 Posted July 12, 2013 @BruceWayne: stutter remover has been installed for a while now; I will try the vsync @ritualclarity: thanks for the reminders, I have backups, but I def need to do new ones, I forget to keep up with it. Very bad to find that a backup is 6 months old.

Very bad to find that a backup is 6 months old. Don't forget to try the fake windowed mode. or Hell even windowed mode. It might be able to lower the resources needed and make the gaming bearable until some nice much needed upgrades are obtained.
Gibson8088 Posted July 20, 2013 Posted July 20, 2013 You could also try a texture optimizer. I used one called Ordernador and I noticed a performance increase after using it. I'd post a link but I'm getting a "502 Bad Gateway" when trying to visit the New Vegas Nexus site.
