IvanVancheskov Posted December 22, 2021 Posted December 22, 2021 I finally bit the bullet and made the jump from LE to SE and found that, for the most part, things have made the jump quite nicely. I've found equivalents or upgrades to all my previous mods save for a few (RIP untamed, individualized shout cooldowns, and hidden hemlets) but there's a major bug that I keep running into that I can't seem to solve: NPC's loading in with a shiny gold or purple hair and a blacked out face. This first came up after using the high poly head and the facegen data mod. Or so I thought. I have since removed -every- npc overhaul mod, leaving only ones that simply add more npcs (Bandits in skyrim, immersive patrols). The only things remaining are skins and textures and.... it's still happening. Happens to men and women, to unique npcs and randomly generated ones. Below is my complete load order list. Now, people give me two fixes. Set the npc weight to 35. This doesn't work, returns an invalid command error whenever I run it. The other is to grab the NPC ID, load the creation studio, reload the facegen data for the NPC, save the changes to a plugin file, and load that into my load order. For every. Single. Fucking. One. No? There has GOT to be a better way, there has to be something that is triggering this to occur. I will go back to playing LE before I spend hours cycling through every one of the dozens of NPCs in the creation studio just to reload facegen data that should already be there in the first place. Its absolutely obnoxious. I can sort of understand when I add the high poly head and facegen data mods to the mix, that makes sense. But when I drop back to hair and skin texture replaces, SOS, and XPME and I'm still having the problem with worrying frequency, it strikes me as odd to the point of inexcusable. Is this something that skyrim just -does- now? Or can anyone provide suggestions based on my LO below? Any help is appreciated, I'm pulling my hair out here. 0 0 Skyrim.esm 1 1 Update.esm 2 2 Dawnguard.esm 3 3 HearthFires.esm 4 4 Dragonborn.esm 5 5 RSkyrimChildren.esm 6 6 Unofficial Skyrim Special Edition Patch.esp 7 7 Lanterns Of Skyrim - nilead Posted December 23, 2021 Posted December 23, 2021 Nope, its not somthing that "just happens". It means your build is off. Well, sometimes mods, including well loverd and popular ones, make records for NPC they have no need touching, causing visual glitches, usually infamous grey face. And in those cases - yeah, its often easier to just export head from CK. When the problem is global - you need to solve the source issue. Grey face indeed is usually related to NPC weight. Purple hair means that no texture is present for hair mesh. Golden hair is something completely new, dont know that one. So id wager something went horribly wrong with a hair mod. Of wich you seem to run very little, and since KS hairdos SMP is PC exclusive, unless you yourself give it to npc, it leaves vanilla hair replacer? Never used it. TBH changing vanilla stuff is normally a bad idea, since who knows where can it be used as a resource. Possible troubles are limitless. In short - id bet on that one being the troublemaker. try disabling it, see if it helps. Beyond that - never used high poly head, so its hard for me to guess what could cause issues with it.
anjenthedog Posted December 23, 2021 Posted December 23, 2021 how are you setting npc weight? it *should be setnpcweight N, where N is the desired weight. Often times it comes down to a load order issue. I have the problem with the children. They're all suffering from black face. And even when I do a setnpcweight, It reverts next time I load the game and load a current save (made after setting their weights) ... (afaik, set commands are session only, unlike for instance, mod commands ex: player.modav carryweight N), which afaik cause persistent change (after making a new save). I've basically given up on the black face issue, and I try not to interact with them anyway. Adopted several children in my first play through and no offense to the clever emotional string pulls, but I got tired of it. They're just a lean on tie and effort with no give back or character development. If it is a load order issue, rather than a mod which has issues (afaik one reason people say to set their weight), to solve the load order issues for your mods, you'll need to dig up info from their mod pages and support info... if it is a glitchy mod with "wrong values, you'll have to edit it using SSEdit or CK to place the values correctly. I don't know how to do that, nor am I interested, as I have my own problems I'm focusing on (golden skin and lobster hands are my two #1 nemeses). I've seen the odd hair color issue before. Not exactly sure why. It definitely happens to one of my vectors where I've donned the body of another character and equip a particular piece of gear. The NPC (a follower actually) is a brunette, my player is a dirty blonde (no, not the pic you see for my LL avatar). when she adds a specific piece of jewelry, her hair change from brunette to strawberry blonde (it's actually kinda pretty). Anyway, suddenly it'll go back to brunette out of the blue (or not!) when I equip a weapon or change some piece of armor, or even when I change cells. Weird...I'd actually like it to stick to the strawberry blonde but meh, it won't.
IvanVancheskov Posted December 23, 2021 Author Posted December 23, 2021 @nilead I should clarify, its not global in the sense that it impacts everyone. I was more trying to illustrate that there does not seem to be a common thread between the NPCs that it -does- impact. You, are a life saver. You were -EXACTLY- right. The hair mod is it. So I guess the common thread was 'has vanilla hair' + 'bad dice roll'. Just out of curiosity I even went and installed all of the other npc overhaul mods I had been using. Bijin, High Poly NPC Overhaul, etc. And I'm not seeing the bug. Fascinating that a simple hair mod broke the game in such spectacular fashion. I may run into it later but for the moment Riverrun and Whiterun are squeaky clean, as is the bandit group outside the Alternate start campsite. If I have to learn the creators kit to fix a few along the way that's alright but the majority of the issue seems resolved. Thanks a million!
