Visual Glitches with Vanilla Outfits Bodyslided by gosthy

Hello, I'm redownloading mods and modding skyrim from scratch, but I've bumped into a problem with gosthy's VOB and racemenu sliders. Racemenu morphs work completely fine with the default body but when I try to use racemenu bodysliders in-game with outfits built with VOB severe visual glitches occur. A big gap appears between my character's arms and hands and the bottom parts of outfits become transparent, showing the other side of the body. Attached is an image showing the issue. Help regarding this issue is greatly appreciated! It seems like I'm not the only one struggling with this.

gosthy's VOB

Did you build the VOB meshes in Bodyslide with your body preset?

Spoiler

How do I generate the outfits?

  1. Open BodySlide
  2. Click the magnifying glass in the middle of the top row and select "Choose groups..."
  3. Tick only "VOBS" (if you don't want HDT or don't have it installed) or "VOBS HDT" (if you do have HDT installed) then press "OK"
  4. Select a preset (Second row, left side. You can just go with "CBBE" for the default shape.)
  5. (Optional: Tick "RaceMenu Morphs" in the bottom if you know what that is)
  6. Click "Batch Build..." in the lower left corner
  7. Tick the ones you want to generate (I think all of them are ticked by default)
  8. Press "Build" and wait for BodySlide to finish

I'm not sure if VOB covers the prisoner rags. Did you try other outfits?

I'm pretty sure VOB has prisoner rags, but this is the way I'm building my outfits right now. I think I'm following all the instructions?

Just didn't saw them on the mod page.

Looks good to me what your doing there with BS.

You did also build your CBBE Curvy body before you started to build anything else?

Yes, the CBBE Curvy body works with racemenu.

  • CBBE body meshes build
  • VOB meshes build
  • run FNIS
  • new game > just exit racemenu after selecting the race you want to play > unequip/equip prisoner rags and check if anything changed > if not test another VOB modified outfit
  • if other outfits work and only the prisoner rag still makes trouble it might either be overwritten or from another replacer

I hope you use Additemmenu to grab quickly outfits for testing ^^

I tried rebuilding everything but it still seems to be an issue and not just with prisoner rags but other outfits too..... To note, this is an issue only when I try to touch any of the body sliders in racemenu, if I don't there aren't any glitches. When I build outfits with racemenu morphs ticked it doesn't seem to say that a .tri file has been processed in the popup though, maybe that's relevant?

oh-oh, what's that: Custom races?

Looks like fun if getting the game running is too boring :classic_blink:

Haha its a mess, but the problem seems to be happening to all races rn.

Well, why do you think the mod doesn't cause your issues.

Are you doing all this?

Spoiler

How to use:
------------------------------------------------------------------------
First decide what race you are going to play. I did not change anything with the races except what resources the races use. The included folders contain vanilla meshes and textures so you will have to pick and install what bodies you want to use to see a difference. Pick a fancy body from the assorted mods available, including meshes and textures. Copy said meshes and textures into the corresponding custom race folders.

Example: if you are going to be an imperial (female in parenthesis)
copy
----
(fe)malehands_0.nif
(fe)malehands_1.nif
(fe)malefeet_0.nif
(fe)malefeet_1.nif
(fe)malebody_0.nif
(fe)malebody_1.nif
(fe)malehead_0.nif
(fe)malehead_1.nif
skeleton.nif
(skeleton_female.nif)
---
into data/meshes/CustomRaces/CustomImperial

(Don't delete any files, only replace. You probably don't need a different head mesh or skeleton from the vanilla meshes, but you can certainly use them if you want. You don't need different hand, feet, and 1st person models but if the mod has them available, use them.)

copy
---
(fe)malebody_1.dds
(fe)malebody_1_msn.dds
(fe)malebody_1_s.dds
(fe)malebody_1_sk.dds
(fe)malehands_1.dds
(fe)malehands_1_msn.dds
(fe)malehands_1_s.dds
(fe)malehands_1_sk.dds
(fe)malehead.dds
(fe)malehead_msn.dds
(fe)malehead_s.dds
(fe)malehead_sk.dds
---
into data/textures/CustomRaces/CustomImperial

How the mod works is that it creates a bunch of new races which have their own resources that you swap out, the original races should be untouched by custom races. I'm using original races to test all the outfits and bodies. If I understand correctly tho, each outfit uses its own body that isn't affected by your race stuff too right?

Yes, but if the body doesn't fit and the outfit doesn't cover the whole body you get gaps.

Custom race mod installs vanilla assets, so you get gaps with any race you haven't exchanged the vanilla files.

On your first screenshot it looks like the outfit doesn't fit the body (hands aren't covered), or the other way around.

Confusing lol

Did you made a test without custom race installed to see if your CBBE body is installed right and the outfits work with it?

If the racemenu sliders cause the gaps maybe you are using a vanilla body with CBBE armor? In that case the body won't change according to your racemenu sliders but the outfit could.

Well the race menu with custom races installed looks like this so it's pretty easy to tell.ScreenShot4.png.4ae8d0d3ee5f599f1f5e9237574cce38.png

In any case I rebuilt everything and tried again with custom races uninstalled but the issue persists.

I have no idea.

> grab CBBE

> install Bodyslide and outfit studio > choose the body type you want to install

> create the meshes of the chosen body with a preset (batch build for morphs)

> create outfits with the same preset or similar

> BS generates this one: RaceMenuMorphsCBBE.esp, no need to generate something extra

I get the impression we are working backwards here.

Your base setup isn't working correctly but you have a LO full of custom races already :classic_unsure:

Yeah I'm pretty sure custom races isn't the issue, since I uninstalled all of it and the issue still persists, plus going from the comment page on nexus mods it seems like there are more people with this exact same issue and it's unlikely they have the same set up regarding custom races as me. The first screenshot isn't mine actually.

As far as the mods concerning CBBE go my installation order is this:

FNIS>XPMSE>CBBE>Bodyslide>VOB

You think this is a skeleton issue?

Seems like the bodies being put out by racemenu morphs is going wank maybe it's a problem on that end. I might go ahead and try out some other outfit mods and see how that turns out.

Thanks for the attention so far btw.

We learning together here. I'm UUNP user and hopefully I learn something CBBE here ?

Maybe even something about custom races? ?

Try this:

HDT Physics Extensions (if that one was missing, that might have been the problem already?)

CBBE

VOB

In BS FOMOD choose BodySlide and CBBE and CBBE HDT + Morphs I guess + RaceMenu Morphs for CBBE

Build your CBBE Body with a preset

Build VOB with your preset

XPMSE

(Any Outfit Studio reference skeleton fixes available are NOT needed anymore and should not be installed! => I guess that means don't overwrite XPMSE?)

FNIS

If that works you can start the next experiments

It seems that the bodyslide sets from VOB only have single weight.

Open one of the armor in Outfit Studio and replace the base shape with your reference body.

Save the project, build the armor in Bodyslide and test it in the game.

The black spots are caused by insufficient normalization of the mesh faces.

The cause is insufficient skin. Each vertex needs a total skin (bone weight) of 100%, otherwise display errors will occur.

Thanks for the tip, I went in and tried to do what you told me though I am not at all familiar with bodyslide....

I loaded up VOB prisoner rags and using load reference loaded in the template CBBE body to replace bodyshape then saved the project.

This didn't seem to fix any of the issues though...

I looked at the files from VOB Mod in the preview on Nexus.

And what I saw there is pretty stupid. It is not a replacer ...

I suspect in the esp, the armor_0.nif was used instead of the armor_1.nif in the Armor Addon.

That explains why at weight 1 you have the body for weight 0, but the hands for weight 1 - see your picture from your first post.

I have to say the mod is totally nonsensical.

Because he doubles the number of nifs for armor and clothes by 100% - and that for Vanialla armor.

Hrmmmmm this seems like its a little out of my depth to fix easily lol. Is there any other mod out there that makes vanilla armor compatible with bodyslide & racemenu? One that keeps the style of the armors closer to vanilla would be preferrable.

Probably not because nobody really wants to see and use vanilla armor. There is an alternative that is vanilla based but more revealing.. However, if you really want to use vanilla armor, I can write you a kind of tutorial on how to do that. But be warned - it is a lot of work, not just a few hours.

Here is the alternative - all based on vanilla only - but different:

Would it be easier to fix VOB for bodymorphs instead?

The first thing to do is identify the problem.
I just made a guess as I don't have the mod.

Points to check:

1. Does the Bodyslide Preview change the seams on the neck, hands and feet when using the slider for weight 0 to 1?

2. In the armor folder 2 different nifs for weight 0 and weight 1?

3. In data/meshes/actors/character/female 2 nifs for hands - and 2 different ones (same for feets)?

4. Correct Nif in the Armor Addon?

If point 1 works, then the sliders are fine. In this case, the easiest way would be:
Open this armor in Outfit Studio. And just save the project as.
In the output path, enter the path of the vanilla armor (vanilla from skyyrim, not VOB) and enter the name of the vanilla armor (skyrim, not VOB) in filename as the file name.

Do not use _0 or _1 for the file name, but remove the check mark for Singleweight.

Do this for all armor and clothing notes. This ESP from VOB is then no longer required. You may have to create your own ESP to assign the texture sets to the correct mesh.
For some armor / clothing there is only one nif and the variants in the game are implemented using texture sets. for example farmer clothes
