lollol Posted June 8, 2013 Posted June 8, 2013 Do we need permission from a mod author if we're sort of inspired by their mod, to use a similar design? I wanted to make a female armor for Skyrim/Oblivion but I don't want it to be over sexualized. I like the design of the Elihart dress and would like to design my armor somewhat similarly, not building from it just using it as a guide somewhat. For example I might make mine have an open back like the Elihart dress. It would be an armored robe that covers the body similarly and lower part of the dress would be similar besides the white part of the dress, it would have boots instead. Might not have been clear because I need to go to bed I can clarify if needed Might not have been clear because I need to go to bed, I can clarify if needed http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/36738/?tab=2&navtag=%2Fajax%2Fmodfiles%2F%3Fid%3D36738&pUp=1
Thulas Posted June 8, 2013 Posted June 8, 2013 I don't think it is really needed, but it is best if you just add to your credits that you are inspired by him / his work. This also would help others to find similar armor like yours if they enjoyed it. If you'd need permission for everything someone had done in some way before you, then you probably wouldn't be able to mod at all.
gregathit Posted June 8, 2013 Posted June 8, 2013 If you use any of the resources from the mod (meshes, textures or whatever), then you need to request permission. If you are making the meshes and textures yourself then you don't need permission at all. However, as Thulas stated, if you are using a picture or the like, it really is a good idea to offer up a credit for the inspiration. It is a nice gesture of respect.
