demongoat Posted November 3, 2011 Posted November 3, 2011 Interesting Mashi' date=' and (good) news to me. If that is the current feeling in the industry, Beth are bucking that trend though. They have stated elsewhere that the XBox is their dev platform for Skyrim. [/quote']Yep. If you look at the sales reports from Ubi/EA/Activision you'll see that console sales have dropped by between 20-60% in a 2-3yr period. While UBI's PC sales have dropped an additional 25% because PC gamers have refused their restrictive DRM. But that's another story. EA might see the same especially with origin, and the DA2 fiasco. And more than one dev has come on the record as saying that PC's are their main focus, even MS is coming out with PC-centric items. Kinect "soonish" among other things. As for Beth seems to be behind the times in not catching onto this. See the fiasco with RAGE. Which isn't too surprising, they seem to lag in reading the markets and always have. Personally as long as we have the toolset we can fix it. this is a common trend with gaming, when consoles start to really show their age and game devs start to run out of ideas, gamers start to abandon consoles for the pc. well at least till now when the major players feel they can punch us in the balls with stupid DRM. the sad thing is that consoles aren't going to be replaced for YEARS, like 4-5. yet the companies think they can squeeze us for that long, which is crazy. i wouldn't blame beth for rage, that was all on ID thinking that they can rubberstamp a dog turd and millions will buy it. they didn't learn much from doom 3 apparently, which was one of their worst "games". really ID doesn't make games, they make glorified tech demos and sell the engine to other people. sadly for them doom 3 was crap and so was the engine, and the new one doesn't look much better. its why everyone uses the unreal engine, because it isn't total shit.

They have stated elsewhere that the XBox is their dev platform for Skyrim. [/quote'] Well, not that bad, as XBox is more or less a pc. (the only "bad" thing being the Xenon processor) Consoles are not component upgradable and as such they CAN'T be compared to a computer in any way shape or form and this is just one of the many differences. Sure they may share some features but that is like saying that a car and boat are the same because they both have a radio. Now not being component upgradable "should" make them more stable as the developer only has to worry about making the game work within defined perimeters of hardware\software. Sadly most dev's still screw this up......
Presto Posted November 4, 2011 Posted November 4, 2011 I predict that within a week or two, people will find a glitch that allows you to dupe items/exp/gold. It will then be patched and taken out of the game before more substantial and important issues are patched. Thus proving that stopping players from cheating in a single player game is more important than fixing problems that may corrupt saves, make quests unable to be finished, or randomly losing your companions for good.

LilDevil Posted November 4, 2011 Posted November 4, 2011 Hmmmmm..... taking a shot in the dark I predict there will be something MLP FIM related in about a week to two weeks time, exsepcially after DarkOne said he (I qoute) "He can't wait to play them".
Symon Posted November 6, 2011 Author Posted November 6, 2011 Updated first post as prediction #1 is confirmed as true. The CS is NOT ready for release.
gregathit Posted November 6, 2011 Posted November 6, 2011 Ok, time to play "guessing lotto" the reward being the proverbial internet "cookie" (pun intended). I will guess the CS will be released 2 weeks to the day after Skyrim's release.

I also predict that the first nude mod won't be pretty and finally I predict that people will be crying about "xyz" and how it was better in Oblivion.

Damn, that is three predictions........... ....looks in cookie jar to see if we can cover the bet......
Captain Oblivious Posted November 7, 2011 Posted November 7, 2011 I guess a month and it won't have full functionality to it. Why wouldn't they release a CS with full functionality? Mods are one of the major selling points of Elder Scrolls since Morrowind; I don't think they'd ignore that.
sora3 Posted November 7, 2011 Posted November 7, 2011 Not enough time is probably the main reason. I'm guessing they're still trying to make the damn CS in the first place. Release the game then get on the mod tools.
Symon Posted November 12, 2011 Author Posted November 12, 2011 Updated post #1. There is BAD news on the interface. Apparently it is mostly .swf files. Flash, specifically Scaleform (http://gameware.autodesk.com/scaleform) with ActionScript. Lot's of complaints about the UI on the Officials (some say they love it though), though apparently, a 1.1 patch fixes some of the complete broken-ness. "add iPresentInterval=0 to the bottom of the [Display] section of the Skyrim.ini file in the \Users\[username]\My Documents\My Games\Skyrim directory." may fix hideous lag.Oh, and only eight hotkeys, surprise! The good news is that DarN is looking at them and apparently they are NOT encrypted. (If they had been, and the SDK supports that apparently, toast).
Old Book Posted November 12, 2011 Posted November 12, 2011 I broke down and played it a bit. Went back to Oblivion, but will look again at Skyrim in a few months. Didn't much like the tutorial (all I played through). Classes appear to be effectively gone, and I didn't find the UI all that intuitive even after decades of TES. On the other hand, tons of voice acting, and the background NPC chatter was quite good in the first village. Looks like this will be a nightmare to do big quest mods for; everything is going to need voice acting to feel like part of the world. The new look is good, but not great. I like the faces better in my modded out Oblivion, but I'm sure that modders will dig into the faces here eventually. Kind of missed having the chance to clearly say at the start "I'm a mage, now gimme spells", but I expect if I'd invested in the hint book I'd know how to do that.
Guest Loogie Posted November 12, 2011 Posted November 12, 2011 Forget about a CS. I'd settle for a menu that actually works. If there's not a fix for the inventory in 2 days, official or unofficial, I'm returning this half-baked garbage.
Symon Posted November 12, 2011 Author Posted November 12, 2011 Does the 1.1 patch not help Loogie? This is exactly what Nessa and I feared when we heard the 'Iphone inspired interface' announcement!
Guest Donkey Posted November 12, 2011 Posted November 12, 2011 well after seeing it on my friends pc i can confirm i won't make a return to oblivion from my own point of view. It will take a while for lovers be ported to skyrim. But this game is far better optimized then oblivion. I have sexout for new vegas to keep me warm..
Guest Loogie Posted November 12, 2011 Posted November 12, 2011 Does the 1.1 patch not help Loogie? This is exactly what Nessa and I feared when we heard the 'Iphone inspired interface' announcement! Haven't played with the patch yet, will tomorrow. While the menu is not laid out well, it would forgivable if it was clickable.
Symon Posted December 1, 2011 Author Posted December 1, 2011 Updated first post with the sad tales of woe.
LordJerle Posted December 1, 2011 Posted December 1, 2011 Does the 1.1 patch not help Loogie? This is exactly what Nessa and I feared when we heard the 'Iphone inspired interface' announcement! So it was made by child slave labor in China?
