Symon Posted October 31, 2011 Posted October 31, 2011 Rather than bore people with 'told you so's' after the event, I thought I'd put my money where my mouth is and predict. Let's see how many of these will prove right. Reasoning will be in {}. 1. A CS will not be released with the game. ( Confirmed, it will not be, and the chances of a prompt release seem to be receding.) {It wasn't with Fallout and the 11/11 timescale has rush written all over it}. 2. Hardware requirements on the PC will be equivalent to an X-Box360. ( Confirmed, not much of a prediction really.) {Duh!}. 3. Dragons will be mobile Oblivion gates and soon become as interesting as they were. ( As they can fly backwards, this may be incorrect!) {A sales-droid pointed out that of course Fantasy must have Dragons and that a lack of them was hurting the ES franchise}. 4. Lore will be stamped on again. {Not a hard prediction to make}. 5. The game will be seriously buggy when released. ( It required a 'zero day' patch. Mind you, with the 1.2 patch, it may be going backwards.) {See #1}. 6. Eight hotkeys and other console artifacts will abound. The interface will stink on PC, especially if you use a decent resolution.(Confirmed. There are eight hotkeys. The Interface uses Scaleform and may NOT be moddable) {Consoles rule. PC's afterwards!}. 7. People will abandon it and revert to Oblivion or Morrowind. {Just like they did with Fallout}. 8. Steam will annoy. ( With automatically applied patches to break your game, breaking large address space awareness, what can I say?) {Some just hate it and always will}. Yes, I'm feeling curmudgeonly.
Symon Posted October 31, 2011 Author Posted October 31, 2011 No plans to. Might when there is a GoTY release.
Presto Posted October 31, 2011 Posted October 31, 2011 I can agree with many of your predictions though. Many games that have multi platform releases as of late have seen the short end of the stick on the pc. Its a shame because you want to play the game on day one but it takes a few days, weeks, or months now for modders to get the game running as it should on the pc.
Dreamer102 Posted October 31, 2011 Posted October 31, 2011 I predict that it will have CTD issues like all other Bethesda games.
Slammer64 Posted October 31, 2011 Posted October 31, 2011 That's not a prediction Dreamer102, that's a statement of fact!
Old Book Posted October 31, 2011 Posted October 31, 2011 I predict that I won't be picking it up until the second patch is released. I like predictions I can be fairly certain will come true.
Presto Posted October 31, 2011 Posted October 31, 2011 I predict there will be a lot of complaining, a few game damaging bugs, a lot of comparisons to Oblivion/Morrowind/Fallout, and a lot of times where "buggy" and "patch" will end up in people's posts.
Ryanhabs Posted October 31, 2011 Posted October 31, 2011 As stated above and seen in previous ES releases, I expect plenty of bugs, Beth is still standing by their claim that a cs will be released with game. Although, its still undetermined how much us the initial release cs will be. I wouldn't put it past them to release a basic cs (viewer) as a start so that they can get free help identifying bugs in script and such. Sadly, I do have to agree that consoles seem to take priority anymore over pc gaming. This is a shame as I prefer to play most games on a pc over my 360 or ps3. I, like most will hope for the best but I'll be expecting the worst.
HentaiGnome Posted October 31, 2011 Posted October 31, 2011 No plans to. Might when there is a GoTY release. Same here. I admit I never took interest in the Elder Scroll saga until Oblivion but over time I've learned that it's better to wait rather than jump in on hyped games like this. I'm still getting Skyrim but the GoTY edition instead, which should hopefully include all DLCs/expansion packs and any other bug fixes all for the same launch retail price. Sure, it means having to wait for a year or so but with all the games I have on the backburner, I'm in no real hurry. Besides, I don't think people will immediately stop modding for Oblivion so it should still have some life left in it. And hopefully, by the time a GoTY edition is released, modding for Skyrim would have peaked maturity.
Symon Posted October 31, 2011 Author Posted October 31, 2011 Patches will be released that make things worse! {Fallout3 v1.5. Horrendous mess and we still live with the chaos caused by applying the work round that should not be used with 1.6 or 1.7. Worse, Beth seem to have adopted a policy of not releasing a bug-fix list with patches.}
Mouse Posted October 31, 2011 Posted October 31, 2011 I am getting it when it comes out. If I wait too long, there will be lot of amazing mods out there and I will never get to finishing the main storyline like with Oblivion. With Morrowind I did that, but only because one amazing mod there did draw to the main storyline (Julan Ashlander - one of the best mods ever).
backstageclark Posted October 31, 2011 Posted October 31, 2011 in my opinion it will still be better then the old oblivion that 1 wasn't perfect either but yet we all still play it i remember getting stuck in mid air all the time the last 1 was buggy to me so buggy on PC that i never beat it but did on Xbox 360 but still alot of fun im not all for good graphics cuz in my exp better graphics = shorter game an im not all for short game like the call of duty game short as heck don't like them at all but ya oblivion fan FTW i haven't looked much into skyrim cuz i pre ordered 7 months ago and didn't wanna die waiting for it =)but im excited even if it is garbage im still gonna tough it out until i beat it love oblivion xD anyway c ya all later when it comes out maybe pass a comment how much i liked it/ hated it on the 11th by the way HAPPY HALLOWEEN EVERYBODY....
Mordyn Posted October 31, 2011 Posted October 31, 2011 I'll get it as soon as the CS will be available, I think And I'll play it when first non official patches + annoying dynamic leveling fixes will be out!
Presto Posted October 31, 2011 Posted October 31, 2011 My prediction is that I'll still be playing this game 5 years from now and it will be modded into an entirely different experience.
me3 Posted October 31, 2011 Posted October 31, 2011 my prediction is : it will be good and mainly bug free ..... preordered some time ago would be the 4th disappointment this year after TM 2 , RAGE , BF3
sora3 Posted October 31, 2011 Posted October 31, 2011 To be fairly honest to all those that says there will be bugs, has there been ANY game you played that DIDN'T have bugs? Software will always have this and to have any notion that there WON'T be any bugs is a stupid lie to yourself. Predictions for me: Bugs galore but expected. CS will be out a week or a month after. Graphics matches console with HD pack not released until first DLC. First DLC will be for consoles only.
demongoat Posted November 1, 2011 Posted November 1, 2011 hmm why are you saying the interface will suck? have you seen it? lol i guess if you think the apple interface they are copying sucks then i guess it does it sounds like they are going to attempt to be proactive on bugs and such. they haven't said if the game will come with a CS, but honestly does anyone who is getting it think they will do anything other than say open it to see whats there? i know i won't i just hope they add more stuff and not remove it. yeah they said they aren't releasing the CS with the game, maybe a bit after it. hey they loved the stuff modders did with oblivion and fallout, do you guys really think they are going to not give us one soon after the game comes out? they aren't bioware the interface looks pretty cool and they say they are adding higher rez textures and models, again they aren't bioware and just do a halfass job. yes, i really hated dragon age 2, what a waste of time that piece of crap was.
gregathit Posted November 1, 2011 Posted November 1, 2011 Well, based on what I have seen the interface actually looks pretty damn good thus far. As to not releasing a CS on game day....not surprising really, as they want folks playing for a week or so before they jump into modding....you know for the "unofficial" bug testing phase...... As to them NOT releasing a CS....silly to worry. EVERY game thus far from them has had one since oblivion....nuff said. Oh...I LOVED DA2 (currently on play through #7 of the entire series). Sure it could have had a few improvements here or there (what game is perfect?) but I never have understood all the hate that some folks have for it. Everyone has their own likes/dislikes I guess.....
Mashi Posted November 1, 2011 Posted November 1, 2011 Prediction: CS within a week Nudie patches within a day Rejoicing had by all Regular steam bandwidth choking during preloads for those of us that use it Everything else will be fine.
Symon Posted November 1, 2011 Author Posted November 1, 2011 A few comments. * Beth have been issuing CS packages since Morrowind, but seem less urgent about it. * The main market for these games in now the Console and at Microsoft's insistence, they cannot produce a CS for the XBox. The CS is a low priority to them these days. * The Apple interface is said to work well on Apple devices. It may work well on a Console game. The last few Beth games have had interfaces that needed modding to make playable on PC (DarnifiedUI remember) so we can expect the same again. I'm trying to make my prediction evidence-based.
Mashi Posted November 1, 2011 Posted November 1, 2011 Well one thing to remember Symon, PC's are the golden child of the industry again and have been for the last year or two. Mostly because sales on consoles are dropping like a brick, but PC sales have done nothing but increase. It'll probably be like that for another 3-4 years until the next generation of consoles come out.
Symon Posted November 2, 2011 Author Posted November 2, 2011 Interesting Mashi, and (good) news to me. If that is the current feeling in the industry, Beth are bucking that trend though. They have stated elsewhere that the XBox is their dev platform for Skyrim.
Guest Loogie Posted November 2, 2011 Posted November 2, 2011 My prediction is the game will start off well enough in the first two hours, which (combined with Bethesda advertising dollars) will compel reviewers to give it a great score. Once normal people drop their hard-earned cash and spend time with it, they'll realize Bethesda learned nothing from previous mistakes.
Mashi Posted November 2, 2011 Posted November 2, 2011 Interesting Mashi' date=' and (good) news to me. If that is the current feeling in the industry, Beth are bucking that trend though. They have stated elsewhere that the XBox is their dev platform for Skyrim. [/quote']Yep. If you look at the sales reports from Ubi/EA/Activision you'll see that console sales have dropped by between 20-60% in a 2-3yr period. While UBI's PC sales have dropped an additional 25% because PC gamers have refused their restrictive DRM. But that's another story. EA might see the same especially with origin, and the DA2 fiasco. And more than one dev has come on the record as saying that PC's are their main focus, even MS is coming out with PC-centric items. Kinect "soonish" among other things. As for Beth seems to be behind the times in not catching onto this. See the fiasco with RAGE. Which isn't too surprising, they seem to lag in reading the markets and always have. Personally as long as we have the toolset we can fix it.
