CTD when starting up game

Hi all,

I have began having an issue with my mods. When I start the game up from the desktop the screen goes black and the game crashes. I have updated a few mods and added and removed some due to compatibility issues. (Replaced death alternative with ODefeat and had to remove a few mods linked with death alternative like wolfclub.) I have ran loot and FNIS but neither helped identify or resolve the issue. Any help will be appreciated

Did the game work before you loaded it down with all those mods?

Did you install the mods a few at a time and test things as you went?

Yes the game worked fine. I have updated/downloaded 14 new mods since the last time I played. I am currently going through them now uninstalling the new ones and testing them but so far not working.

Do you use an installer?

Are you sure all the new mods are for SE and not LE (some mods do work for both)?

You might also want to Check Local Files through Steam.

Yes I use Nexus (people say to update to vortex but I personally don't like it)

Yes I learnt that from before to check they were all SE

I am going to check that I didn't think of that.

It might be a mod from earlier in the month I have been busy and installed mods to play and haven't gotten round so my list of suspects has just expanded

UPDATE: I have checked the local files and nothing happened so

I found that the last save was on the 3rd september so I have removed all mods that were added after that point and I am still crashing when starting the game

Crashing on take off is usually either missing masters or too many character animations.

Do you know how/where NMM shows if you are missing a master?

Do you use Animation Limit Crash Fix? (If animations were among the 14 mods you added).

Does FNIS show any warnings or errors?

No how do I see master?

No I don't Im going to install it and give it a try.

FNIS doesn't come up with any errors or warnings

I checked masters and there was no issues with missing files or masters.

I installed Animated Limit Crash Fix ran FNIS and still crashed.

FNIS still not showing any errprs or warnings.

I removed all my mods i have installed after the most recent save and still crashing on start up.

NMM. If a plug in has a missing master its name will be in red text. If you click on the plug in in the left hand pane then the name(s) of the name of the missing master will show in the right hand pane.

If you have removed the 14 mods then you wont have any missing masters.

 

Have you tried rolling back to a save from before you added the 14 mods.

I can't start the game at all I click to open the game it goes black and then crashes. I cant get to the main menu. I have just disabled all my plugins and still crashed

step by step  start skyrim and only skyrim  first ( to see if everything is set correctly in main game even if you have checked the files with steam ) .

 

second launch the game with skse.exe ( to eliminate the probabilities of files installed by inadvertance ) .

What were the 14 mods you installed? Were they just 'mods' or were any of them for altering game configuration, settings etc.?

 

Try using Bethini to reset all your ini files in case something has screwed up a setting.

 

I use LE so I'm not sure if this is still a thing with SE but I had a W10 update few days ago. Is it possible that this has screwed something with your version of skse64 or whatever Windows updates does/did?
