No keyboard controls possible

Cheers

it's that old issue, except none of the old fixes work for me. Neither in the main menu nor in game i can use any key, only the mouse.

What I've tried/checked so far:

-Whitelisting Skyrim from Antivirus

-I haven't had any controllers connected

-Steam overlay is deactivated

-Checked for missing files via steam

-Deleted Skyrim.ini and skyrimprefs

-Adjusted the ini files for bEnableGamepad/bEnableKeyboard

-restarted my PC/Steam/Skyrim multiple times over multiple days

-changed laguages in both game and PC

My load order:

Quick reminder: It used to work before. It like, stopped working after I didn't touch the game for a month or so. So the load order isn't the actual problem. Might be a mod update though. Not sure here.

Do you have SSE installed? Because I've had an issue in the past where the keyboard wouldn't work in LE until I ran up SSE to it's main menu, then went to console and 'qqq' out of the game. Then ran LE and the keyboard worked. (Just another thing you could rule out from your list)

Neither in the main menu

Only times I experienced something like that (but not with Skyrim):

USB Keyboard => changed Keyboard USB port to a port that was used by some other USB device before

USB Keyboard that works best with USB 3.0 (the blue USB ports) => connecting USB 3.0 devices to USB 2.0 reduced the functions those devices come with (like drivers, additional settings)

Game Keyboard/Macro Keyboard => odd multi function key options activated?

Just wild brainstorming:

Skyrim in windows mode?

ENB hotkeys accidentally used on gamestart?

Wrong Keyboard driver after Windows update?

Loose contact, broken wire?

Wireless Keyboard (empty batteries, out of range, interference)?

2 screens and the wrong one is activated?

Odd background apps running?

I can answer all your questions with no. Skyrim Special Edition also works perfectly fine. I felt like that's important to add because after all they're kind of the same game.

But every other game works too. It's definitely no hardware issue.

tried that, didn't work though sadly.

Just in case you are using MO

Spoiler

Skyrim.ini

Skyrim.ini (located at %USERPROFILE%/Documents/My Games/Skyrim by default, although Mod Organizer stores it in its own profile folder) is the Master INI file. It can modify all settings used by the game. However, it cannot modify the settings specific to the Skyrim Launcher (namely sD3DDevice, uLastAspectRatio, bShowAllResolutions, bEnableFileSelection) due to the fact that the Skyrim Launcher only reads these settings from SkyrimPrefs.ini.

SkyrimPrefs.ini

SkyrimPrefs.ini (located at %USERPROFILE%/Documents/My Games/Skyrim by default, although Mod Organizer stores it in its own profile folder) can only modify a few settings, primarily the ones changed in the Skyrim Launcher and the in-game settings menu. Under the hood, only certain settings flagged and hard-coded into the game executable can be changed in SkyrimPrefs.ini. These settings in their entirety are documented on the advanced SkyrimPrefs INI guide. Any values for settings in Skyrim.ini or SkyrimCustom.ini that are duplicated in SkyrimPrefs.ini will be overwritten by the values in SkyrimPrefs.ini if and only if they are in the list of settings valid in SkyrimPrefs.ini.

Windows registers (Registry) on an usb port all devices that made use of it.

This list can get long and have double entries. No problem, so far.

But enb has hard coded keys. If the connection got interupted while enb active, windows assignes it

new and the hardcoded enb keys prevent proper assinment or corrupt the entry.

Reset (deinstall) usb cleans this, or use other port before starting enb.

There a gadgets showing all devices ever used a port, like this

Okay. Don't ask why. But uninstalling and reinstalling my ENB (Snapdragon Prime) fixed it. Don't even ask why I tried it. I have no clue. What the fuck...

Anyways, thank you so much for your effort!

The result justifies the means ??

Wow, you should work for the NTSB for computers. This explains and combines the various observations to a whole theory about the keyboard accident.

Also explains some of the oddities with my USB ports.

Not really, I just use the internet as brain to solve strange issues.

Btw, knowing how it works explains also the recommendation from IT people.

"never hot unplug any USB device, even if you allowed to do so"

I guess that's the only thing I remembered ?

"Hey look, the IT guys just overreact, I exchange my USB ports all the time while the PC is running and never did anything bad happen" :classic_sleep:

I doubt the NTSB uses other tools ?
