Adding Collision 3dsMax

Recommended Posts

Hi guys,

I encouter some problems when trying to add collision to mesh

I just create a model using blender, exported to obj, imported to 3dsmax 2018 with nif plugin installed. However, I can't find niftools in create menu. Also, how do you usually add collisions to the mesh? I would like to know. Thank you so much

If static, I do not know about the skeleton of the actor.

bhkrigidbodymodifier (mesh-add modif)

probably so

What type of collision you are attempting to add to the mesh, static, move-able?.

I used this very early video to add a 'static collisions' to add (FF7R) rooms to Skyrim similar to the Vignette mod

I use 2012 so not sure if it is the same for 2018, but you need to look under 'Helpers' then NifTools on the drop down window.

You may need ChunkMerge too, if you haven't got it already.

Probably the best way is to add it directly in Nifscope (advanced user) or copy ~ paste bhkCollision data from a reference shape nif file and make your adjustments in bhkRigidBody (shape\layer\translation\rotation) + bhk***Shape (material\radius\dimensions
Keep in mind, your main node should be named properly for collision data to work as BSFadeNode

Yes, I've watched that video to add collision too. However in the latest release of Nif Plugin. The bhkRigidBody have been deleted. Yes I have looked under Create -> Helper but there're no Niftools tab, other users have also reported the same bug.

However, I haven't had Chunkmerge. I have watched video of Chunkmerge but can't find the download link. Thank you so much for the link.

I tried that way before but didn't succeed. Perhaps I was too impatient. And I should try again now that you gave me a tip.

Thank you

I suppose you have an older version of Nif Plugin. The latest version deleted bhkRigidBody so adding it from modlist isn't possible anymore. Also, I can't find Niftools in directory Create -> Helper Do you have any ideas why? Other users have also reported the same bug

All I can think of, is to make sure you have the plugin (both MaxNifStrings.ini and MaxNifTools.ini) files in your AppData\Local\Autodesk\3dsMax\201*- 64bit\enu\plugcfg folder.

just download 3d max 2009,2016 64 and don't bother yorself.

3dmax 2016 (64) - b16.jpg

(But, I cannot confirm that this works in the game (Skyrim is so boring, I'm too lazy to run it )

I also feared the installer didn't run correctly. Now that you specifically showed me the folder. Both these files weren't in that directory. Is there a fix for it? Because Idk how to parse the installer.

Check the plugcfg in your root folder of where you installed 3ds (mine is C:\Program Files\Autodesk\3ds Max 2012\plugcfg).

If the two ini files are in that folder, move them to that other folder (AppData\Local\AutoDesk\3dsMax\201*-64bit\enu\plugcfg)

I read somewhere that you have to move the 'whole plugcfg folder' to that location due to Admin privileges.

I search 2 files in the c:\Program Files\Autodesk folder, there were no matches. However, I found those files in this directory AppData\Local\Autodesk\3dsMax\2018 - 64bit\ENU\en-US\plugcfg-ln. Should I move those files to the enu\plugcfg folder?

Yes, try moving those files to that folder.

Don't forget i'm using 2012 (and on Win7), while you are on 2018 so your install and folders may be different.

I can't find where I read it but this is the closest I found.

"If you have some trouble with administrator privileges, move "plugcfg" folder to "%localappdata%\Autodesk\3dsMax\2017 - 64bit\ENU\en-US" for your convenience."

I had the same issue where NifTools didn't show up in 3ds until I moved the plugcfg folder from the NifTools plugin to that location, but I installed it manually from a zip file and not a .exe.

I don't understand what do you mean. If the files are already in en-US\plugcfg. Why did you say that I move it to the plugcfg in Enu folder??? That contradicts yourself as much as I hate to say it.

And in the Enu folder, there are no plugcfg folder, there is only plugcfg-ln

If the MaxNifTools.ini is in the plugcfg-in folder in your main install of 3ds, eg: (C:\Program Files\Autodesk\3ds Max 201*), then create a folder called plugcfg-in or plugcfg (try both) and put the MaxNifTools.ini in that folder in, eg: (C:\Users\name\AppData\Local\Autodesk\3dsMax\201* - 64bit\enu

My install is different (2012), I don't have the extra folder called en-US.

Hello. Those files weren't in the main install of my 3ds. However, I tried moving those files to the folders as you suggested. However it still couldn't find NifTools in Helper drop-down menu.
