I hope you're talking about Simple Slavery Plus Plus and not the old, outdated version. The current version comes with neither a Zero Base nor an installer, it uses a bsa archive.

I remember having problems with some mods using the TES mod manager, switched to Vortex since.

The SE version of Simple Slavery ++ is also packed as a bsa with no installer. The link you provided is the one needed to get the SE version too. I think your assumption of OP using an old iteration of the mod seems to be right, and that link should help OP to get the proper version.
