Make the game boot faster

Recommended Posts

Hello guys,

Since the last update my game is taking a while to load.

1) I have 14Gb of mods

2) My game is on a hard drive

Do you think the hard drive is the cause ?

Do you know a way to load the game faster ?

Maybe delete some mods ?

Cheers everyone ❤️

If you have an older laptop, or even a desktop pc, some of the cheaper 5400 rpm HDD's were used.

A 7500rpm or 10K rpm drive might help a little.

Have you checked for duplicate mods or cc lately?

Extras can cause more load time not to mention other problems.

Look in your TS4 folder for WickedWhimsInfoLog.log file and open it.

Scroll down past all your mods/cc and find the entry: Possible Duplicate Files

It should be 0

If not you need to find all the duplicates and delete them.

Delete your localthumbcache.pkg afterwards.

Sometimes you need to clean house and find mods you rarely use and remove them.

Keep the ones you can't live without, or what I call essential, meaning I won't play sims without them.

Got 25 different Lipsticks, how many do you actually use all the time.

Keep your favorites and dump the rest.

Same thing with all the other cc.

The difference between booting on an SSD vs HDD can literally be minutes on the same machine. If you have the space and the budget, a 1TB WD Blue SSD is ~$110 USD right now. Very worth it IMO.

Good to know for the SSD HD

Not really.

This is why I preach so much about keeping your mods folders organized.

Prevents you from getting more duplicates later on when you add more cc or update them.

Put all your makeup into one folder named Makeup

Do the same thing for each category of cc.

Example:

Mods/CC Clothing

Mods/CC Hairstyles

Mods/CC Jewelry

Mods/CC Makeup

Mods/CC Shoes

Mods/WickedWhimsMod

Mods/Wicked Animations

etc.

(The only singe lose file I have left in my Mods is the Resource.cfg file the game creates and all others are folders

Doing this will get rid of most duplicates anyway as they will overwrite the copies.

Keep in mind some might be newer versions so you want to keep the newest ones.

Seems like an overwhelming task but once it's done it's done and will save time later on.

When you get errors you can just remove folders to find the folder that has the bad mod/cc.

Do one category at a time, no need to do all in one day if you get tired of it.

Biggest problem I have when organizing CC is identifying what the fuck it is. The filename often doesn't help because it's some cryptic name. The only way is to display it in The Sims 4 Studio, and even then sometimes it gives you an error when you try to do that.

Yes some can be a pain.

If you move them to desktop temporarily you may notice something missing on sims in game.

If not oh well, maybe you don't need it.

But if it's a part of a mod, the errors will usually tell you about it straight away.

If you can get it to show in S4S then you can sometimes get clues by the flags being used.
