You copy the DNA string posted and go into ruler designer. Click on the Customize Further button at the bottom then click Paste DNA. Voila you've got that character. You may have to change the character's sex to get them to appear. My DNA used Nobles Improved mod for better makeup.

I keep seeing people make this more difficult than it actually is.  If you have the DNA text from any source. All you have to do is replace the string in the character info in the save file. NOT the meta data. Never edit that.  its easier to just wait for an autosave since it wont be compressed. If you cant open the save file with winrar. Extract. The open the gamestate file in a Text editor. Edit. then save with a .ck3 extension.

Note sure what you are doing exactly to help.

 

The thread handles DNA very badly. Leader designer data is useless for editing a save file, to give a character X dna as only the player ruler and primary spouse (I think) use this data for the lobby pic of the save game file. The real data for the game is stored as a dna="" String, with a long ass string between the quotes. It is this code that you add to a character to give them their actual appearance. The leader design data is pretty much 99% useless unless you are adding that data to a ruler at the start of the game. At least using basic notepad++ editing which most save game file editing uses. 

 

The first thread was much better at providing actual DNA strings. I think it speaks volumes that the original thread got a lot more post because the data provided was 100% useable for ALL characters with a simple save game file edit with one tool for editing and one too to unpack the save game file. I looked at the thread now and think this is pretty useless, I can just make my own leaders start a game make a save and extract the dna myself and since the thread doesn't actually give me any info to make this process easier or fast I have zero reason to post or visit this thread as it doesn't speed up the process that much. The thread handles DNA very badly. Leader designer data is useless for editing a save file, to give a character X dna as only the player ruler and primary spouse (I think) use this data for the lobby pic of the save game file. The real data for the game is stored as a dna="" String, with a long ass string between the quotes. It is this code that you add to a character to give them their actual appearance. The leader design data is pretty much 99% useless unless you are adding that data to a ruler at the start of the game. At least using basic notepad++ editing which most save game file editing uses. 

 

The first thread was much better at providing actual DNA strings. I think it speaks volumes that the original thread got a lot more post because the data provided was 100% useable for ALL characters with a simple save game file edit with one tool for editing and one too to unpack the save game file. I looked at the thread now and think this is pretty useless, I can just make my own leaders start a game make a save and extract the dna myself and since the thread doesn't actually give me any info to make this process easier or fast I have zero reason to post or visit this thread as it doesn't speed up the process that much. If I am opening the ruler design tool i might as well make a character myself to make it 100% what i want.

You can copy directly DNAs like above into save file by using an editor, replace old DNA of characters you want, and their looking in-game will change after re-loading that save file. This method works even for your main character, just copy good DNA to replace your character's DNA, and his/her looking will change.

 

For who not know how to edit, below is my method:

 

- Enable debug mode of CK3: right click on ck3.exe shortcut ---> Properties ---> tab Shortcut ---> add "-debug_mode" at the end of Target field ---> like this 

 

It will help you to see in-game id of characters, lands... when point the mouse at characters, lands... in-game, like this

You will use them to edit the save file.

 

- I use Notepad++ to edit save file, you can download it easily from internet

- Go to C:\Users\<Name>\Documents\Paradox Interactive\Crusader Kings III\save games (location of save games), choose the save you want to edit, extract it by 7zip (or any similar app)

 

You will get a "gamestate" file, change its name to any .ck3 file, like my "gamstate.ck3" like above image, then open it by Notepad++, you will get a text file to edit

You can edit many things with this method (relations, traits, character lookings, events...), find them yourself. Here I'm only talking about edit DNA.

 

- After open file, push "CTRL-F" to open Find function, type id of character you want to change DNA into "Find what" field like above image and push "Find next". Remember to tick "Wrap around". In this case, I use my main character id "18028" (you can see it on the in-game pic above). Result:

 

- You see the line dna="91XUpk...", just copy the DNA string you have and replace the text between "", your character looking will change in-game. Here I use the DNA of @CobraPL above for example.

 

- Save the file, then open game and load the "gamestate" save in-game and see the result

- Then save it like normal save ---> you get all you want.

 

Some experiences for good-looking characters:

- Every character will look better with "Beautiful" traits and "Twist" hairstyle (like when you take a filtered photograph with smartphone lol). DNA only = character without traits, hairstyle, dress... So after change DNA in save file, you should add "Beautiful" traits and change their hairstyle, dress... in-game to get a beautiful character.

- There are 3 good poses of character in-game i think, they can show the beauty of character well. Some characters are good in this pose but bad in others. These poses will change by traits like below. Find them yourself.

 

 

 

Why these poses ?

* Pose 2 is the most beautiful naturally but it limits quantity of traits our chars can get.

* In my opinion, we all want our best wives with many good traits, and we should use pose 1 to show as many good traits as we can (if not use pose 1, there's another pose with many good traits, but the female char's breasts will hide behind her arms, not beautiful in my opinion), so pose 1 is the best. You can see I added many traits for female char in pose 1 in above pic.

* Pose 3 is used for chars who are not good in pose 1 & 2, but still good and we want to keep them.

* Another reason to use above 3 poses because our chars smile in these poses, beautiful chars will be better with smile :D.

 

- Use Portrait Editor in-game to edit your characters's DNAs to get better body. Push "`" button in-game, type "portrait_editor" to open it,

 

Copy DNA you want to edit from save file and paste to editor by pushing "Paste DNA string", you can change many things.

I used to choose some characters with good face, then use portrait editor to change some simple things like "gene_height","gene_bs_body_shape" (best shapes are "hourglass" in my opinion), "gene_bs_bust" (shape 3 is the best I think lol) ---> perfect characters.

 

 

 

After editing, push "Copy DNA string" and replace old DNA of character in save file. Your character's body will change after loading this new save file.

 

Remember that what you see in portrait editor is DNA only (without "Beautiful" traits), so it's not as beautiful as in-game portrait with "Beautiful" traits. So the simplest thing you should do is choosing in-game good-face characters (u can add traits "Beautiful" for them to choose easier), then only use portrait editor to adjust their body (breast, body shape, height...). 

 

- If you like muscular characters, increase their Prowess by edit 6th number in field "skill" or add some Prowess traits in save file. If not, do vice-versa.

 

- Add line "immortal=..." into your character information to help them keep their looking at certain age forever. For example, u can see in above pic, I add "immortal=20" to my characters, so their lookings is always at 20 years old although their current age can be 5 or 60.

- You can edit many things at the same time in save file with Notepad++ by Replace function, and more rapidly if you know scripting. If you want to know how, search more about Notepad++ on Internet, I'm still an amateur here @@.

 

Maybe more... but at this time I don't remember all my tips. So now I share some of my good DNAs. Remember these DNAs are good with "Beautiful" traits. Because there are many DNAs so I share them = attach .txt files.

 

- 1st pose: I add these traits to my characters to get this pose "traits={ 57 60 85 137 131 21 23 22 39 40 41 45 46 47 33 34 38 36 37 35 147 }" (only need some of them to get this pose but i dont remember, so try yourself) ---> File "DNA - Best.txt"

 

 

- 2nd pose (look straight into face): I add ONLY these traits to my characters to get this pose "traits={ 57 60 131 }" ---> File "DNA - Best (look straight into face).txt"

 

 

 

- 3nd pose: I add these traits to my characters to get this pose "traits={ 57 85 60 131 }". These DNAs are not as good as 2 files above in my opinion, but maybe they can be use for your reference ---> File "DNA - Good.txt"

You don't actually need AGU, I disable it on my previous saves before I used it (messes up the older faces). The extra details from AGU won't be there, but the overall character will load and more will if you use CBO. For simple guide to convert ruler designer dna to savegame dna check my spoiler, tibeodethuong's previous post covers everything if you need extra help.

1. Use Ruler Designer to paste the face & body you want (the really long stuff with genes={ in it). Name the character something easily searchable in a text editor (cptfuzzybutts, mamamilkers...). Start the game and save it. You can close CK3 or leave it open.

2. Go to your save games folder in your documents and extract the save you just made and the one you want to edit with 7zip. If you get an error open it in a text editor and delete all the text/spaces before the line starting with PK so that it is at the very top. SaveAs the document with a .zip at the end and then extract it with 7zip. In the save you have your new face search for the name of the character you made. Copy the line that starts with dna= and open the save with the character whos look you want to change. Paste over their dna= line with the one you copied, click "save as" and save the text file with .ck3 extension.

 

And you're done.
