Darkening Demise Posted February 6, 2021 Posted February 6, 2021 Like the left side is weird feeling, it hurts when pressure is put onto it. Eating is a pain. I can't taste anything on that side too. I tried looking in the mirror but nothing was visible to my bad eye sight. A couple days ago I couldn't taste anything until it was swallowed. Only the back of my tongue had taste. Then it stopped and only the left side is messing up now. Its been like this for 2-3 days. I try to be careful when brushing and am avoiding things like hot sauce. But still.....should I be worried?
Guest Posted February 6, 2021 Posted February 6, 2021 You might want to call a doctor, that has to be a pain, wish you quick healing!
gregathit Posted February 6, 2021 Posted February 6, 2021 Did you drink something really really hot? Almost sounds like you burned off some of your tastebuds. I once drank something on a dare (I was already 97.2 sheets to the wind) and could not taste anything for 3-4 days until my tastebuds recovered. Ah the dumb shit we do when we were young.

It would be a good idea to go see a doctor just to be on the safe side.

Darkening Demise Posted February 6, 2021 Author Posted February 6, 2021 Yeah can't no insurance, no money, and covid restrictions. USA! USA! USA! #1 country because Tim Mcgraw said so yee haw! But in all seriousness I don't remember anything being burning hot. But I did sleep with my mouth open occasionally. Could that be a problem? I tend to wake up with drool on my pillow and a dry mouth.
gregathit Posted February 6, 2021 Posted February 6, 2021 I seriously doubt it. You might have bitten your tongue in your sleep if it is sore. Maybe this can help: https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/325281#diagnosis or https://www.healthgrades.com/right-care/oral-health/loss-of-taste
Dorabella Posted February 6, 2021 Posted February 6, 2021 30 minutes ago, Darkening Demise said: I tend to wake up with drool on my pillow This may be due to the fact that while sleeping with your mouth open, the action of exhaling pushes saliva out of the mouth . This action could be completely involuntary, or caused by breathing difficulties such as: flu principle, cold, COVID-19 (telltale symptom), negative effects of smoking, and / or other . Sleeping in strange or incorrect positions also causes breathing difficulties which are generally revealed by snoring. According to doctors, you should not sleep with a pillow that is too low, the head should never be below the shoulder line to avoid breathing blocks ; If you have a habit of sleeping on your stomach, make sure your head is higher than your shoulders . If you have this habit, try to change position or correct the height of the pillow (maybe use 2) 31 minutes ago, Darkening Demise said: dry mouth. It could just be the consequence of sleeping with your mouth open: dehydration

travelmedic Posted February 9, 2021 Posted February 9, 2021 In addition to the possibilities of COVID, burned tongue, dehydration, you also need to think about abcess/infection that needs antibiotics or I&D. If it's been 3 days already and it's not better, then it's time to see a doctor, insurance or no. Look for an Urgent Care type center, usually a lot cheaper than an Emergency Department. If you go to an ER that gets public funds, they have to provide at least basic care regardless of ability to pay (but they can send you to collections as a last resort). Most hospitals will be happy to work out a payment plan with you if you need it, but again, I'd look at Urgent Care first (cheaper but pay at time of service).
