Brexter Posted November 28, 2020 Posted November 28, 2020 Hi guys, this is my first time with this weird problem so hopefully you can help me out and dont drop me the "reinstall everything bro" ? You know when the game only allows you to have 3 autosaves at the same time, right? and when you got a new autosave, it overwrites the oldest one and so on, right? Well, that doesnt happen to me anymore. So i have to manually delete the old autosaves to get a new one when i go into a new zone (caves, houses, cities, etc) The same problem applies to quicksaves and with the normal saves i can only have 2 or 3 cause after that i cannot literally save in a new slot, i have to overwrite the ones that i already have to save again. Im gonna left my load to order if that has anything to do with this issue. Thanks again! load order skyrim.txt
RW311 Posted November 28, 2020 Posted November 28, 2020 Can you delete save files from the menu in game or do you have to exit game and delete the file in the folder? This would imply some issue of write protection or that you are launching with restricted privilege in a protected directory. But a mod manager could cause similar problems as with any dll mod with screwed up config file.
gregathit Posted November 28, 2020 Posted November 28, 2020 How many total saved games do you have? If you have a shit ton, it may be best to clean all but the latest out of your saved games folder. You may also need to look at your hard drive and see if you are running low on space. Skyrim should be able to handle thousands of manual saved games, although having more than 100 can start to cause slow downs when making saves. I don't recommend quick saves as they can become corrupt rather easily. I recommend manual saves, or if that is hard for you to remember to do, you can get a mod that will make manual saves for you with multiple settings on how often or other triggers. Also, make sure you are not doing cloud saves with steam.

I can do it both ways, i thought about some program blocking skyrim from overwriting files or creating new ones, but i dont know what could it be ?

Right now i have 5 3 autosaves 2 normals saves And i still have like 42 gb in this hard drive so i have enough space for save files And no, i have that cloud thingy deactivated
gregathit Posted November 28, 2020 Posted November 28, 2020 Is that hard drive your "c" drive (meaning the one the operating system is on)? You aren't using bitdefender antivirus are you? Try this to see if it helps: https://help.bethesda.net/app/answers/detail/a_id/30598/~/why-cant-i-save-my-game-of-the-elder-scrolls-v%3A-skyrim-after-upgrading-to
RohZima Posted November 28, 2020 Posted November 28, 2020 The log would probably mention something if Skyrim was unable to make a new save. Does seem like something locking the file or folder.

gregathit Posted November 28, 2020 Posted November 28, 2020 Only 42gb? yikes. Maybe that is your problem. Most things I've seen it is best to have 15-20% of free space for your OS to operate if you have a mechanical drive. For an SSD, I think the recommended is 25% free space. Do you have both your games and your OS on the C drive? Or are your games on a separate drive? Many games require a minimum of 100gb of free space to run. They don't list this, but you'll notice sluggish performance if you don't have it.
27X Posted November 28, 2020 Posted November 28, 2020 1. Not enough space 2. Never use program files or PFx86. ever 3. ever. 4. ever ever.
