hdiddy Posted October 9, 2020 Posted October 9, 2020 Curious to what folks think about the Files Tabs vs Discussion Topics. For those not familiar with LoversLab you have the ability to upload mods and such to a files/downloads area giving you a bit more control over how you want to present your mod. Works really great, but unfortunately (confirmed by LL Admins) you cannot add subcategories to this space. Making us rely on search and an specific tagging scheme to sort. Now we can also easily implement a discussion topic and add a bunch of categories there. Making more like MG if people prefer that. While you will lose the features of the Files Tab you will have some better organization with sub categories. Curious to what everyone thinks.
EJAX Posted October 9, 2020 Posted October 9, 2020 Wouldn't you have to use external links in a discussion forum? I think if I had my choice, I'd go with the free storage option. It would be more of a mess, but at least you wouldn't have to keep chasing down dead links as time went by (theoretically).

No you wouldn't have to use links you can actually upload pretty heavy and large files in a discussion forum as I agree Mega links can expire for a multitude of reasons and if the poster no longer is active your pretty much SOL. Technically anything stored on LL will remain unless for some reason it was something posted violating the rules. The issue as some mentioned is that mixing discussion forums with posting files gets pretty unwieldy as people start to comment and ask question say on that particular addon leading to pages and pages of discussion to sort through to find your addon. The files options keeps that discussion tied to the comments of the Addon. So any questions or additional support or issues for the addon can actually be handled right there if one choose. See the VC Brothel Example below: The files option..my preference (full transparency) in my opinion gives you much more options outside of subcategories for sorting The ability to rate an addon, see how many folks have downloaded a file, or sort by when it was last updated, providing screenshots upfront in the listing, and tagging. All of this to me outweighs not having the ability to sub categorize. See below: That is just my one opinion, curious what others think.

I think people are going to create their own threads wherever you let them, anyway. Is it possible to limit what you can upload in a discussion group, or is it all or nothing?
