Armor slots in .NIF ?

First, apologies if this is a really noob question...

Coming from Skyrim modding, I'm rather baffled when I look at a FO4 .NIF in OutfitStudio or NifSkope.  How do you change the assigned armor slot of a mesh?

It is changed in .esp/.esm/.esl not in nif

You can set single mesh to different armors that will have different slots

Just curious... What practical application would that serve?

Mostly to avoid conflict with other mods that use the same slot for their armors.  It's pretty common with things like piercings or bondage restraints, where the items don't fit neatly into the vanilla slot scheme.  The nice thing is, you only need one mesh, and then a plugin that defines different versions of the equipment, each using different slots.
