I made myself a bunch of custom follower, everything work as intend.

However, sometime when i fast-travel my follower got blackface, like this:

The problem will dissapear when i restart the game or press "KeyFreeVRAM" in ENB hotkey.

It's kinda annoying, I have tried everything, re-creat facegen, make sure that facetint file is on the right path, reinstall mod, etc. The problem still persist.

Is ther any way to prevent this blackface?

Oldrim or SE?

Blackface sometimes is caused by hair-replacing mods like shiva's Hair replacer.
Most of those mods have compatibilitiy patches for custom NPC's

From what i know, any black texture means lack of V-Ram. That means your card is overloaded.

So even 1070 still not enough? damn...

Well, atleast i could fix it buy restart or press F4.

It is enough but not if you add too many mods, remember that heavy textures consume your V-RAM like ravenous ants to a dead spider.

If you keep adding mods then the follower will not only have a black face, He/She will appear without legs or arms, I mean, invisible arms or legs, or both. And also all the other followers. Also the landscape will turn black in the distant or near distance, etc.

Remember to check the ENB requirements, some are not heavy but others need at least 2GB of V-Ram to run.

Thx for the advice, i have uninstalled some of follower mods (especially Chinese mods), its somewhat help.

In my early test the blackface didn't show up anymore, we will see if it permanent.

Above all, watch out of heavy textures, what the game does is look for things that it believes do not affect the game (as followers or NPCs) and from there it takes resources to support the things that the game believes are important, it is not that the followers cause that problem. ENBs and heavy textures is what causes it frequently. I know it because I had that problem, I had to buy a card with more V-Ram to be able to add everything I wanted.

If you can't or don't want to buy a card with more V-Ram but want your current textures, look for the '' Lite '' versions of those textures, almost all Modders add those compressed textures for not so powerful machines. Or you can compress the heavy textures yourself, there are several tutorials to do that.

When I speak of something ''heavy'' I mean something like this:

https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/2347?tab=files

They are the textures that I use in SE. From there you can start to know if your textures are heavy or not. Check the size of the files. For example, that one weighs almost 5.5GB of just textures.

But for 1GB of V-Ram this 2k textures are heavy:

Remember that you have an ENB installed and you only have 1GB of V-Ram. Using an ENB is like adding a second engine to the game, that consumes a lot of resources.

And you're welcome. I like to help if I can do it, because people also helped me here sometimes when I didn't know something.

If you are using 2K textures you should be fine if everything is configured correctly.  With Ordenador run it on your entire texture folder with just the 'mipmaps' setting ticked. Depending on the size of the folder and your hardware it can take a while but it can be a real help.

There's this

And this

When you can see polygons, it's missing mipmaps.

When everything is tickety-boo

All 3 images were using 2K textures throughout and I'm pretty sure I had a 4GB card at at the time.
