Jay. Posted August 14, 2020 Posted August 14, 2020 Greetings, I'm encountering an unusual bug, or at least I didn't get many results searching for a solution for this. So the problem is that my destruction skill is not advancing at all, at some point, I think it was about skill-level 28 or 29 it stopped advancing. In the skills window the bar doesn't fill and there is no skill progress. I am still able to modify the value by player.setav destruction X, and I found one person with a similar problem who figured that for him somehow the needed xp to level the skill up got so high it was practically unreachable. His solution was to use incpcs destruction or player.advskill destruction X, which I tried with radically increasing numbers up to something like 99999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999 or more. For the other person the skill leveled up and could be normally advanced afterwards, but for me sadly the skill still is stuck. I already tried installing a mod that modifies the skill growth in the hope this would unstuck it, again to no avail. Also i deactivated the Training Dummies mod, as it is the only? mod somehow related, but it did not help. Has anyone an idea what I could do? rafael666 Posted August 14, 2020 Posted August 14, 2020 My theory is that one or more of your mods having to do with the magic system are conflicting. Make a list of those (Deadly spell impacts, Wintermyst - Enchantments of Skyrim, etc.) and go from there. You could try dropping them out one by one, cleaning your save and see if that corrects the problem. Your save may also just be corrupted. If that doesn't work then it may be a less obvious mod that temporarily affects skill gain that got broken by a conflicting mod. Just some examples of mods that I would take a second look at might be (and I'm not looking all these up to see what they do but going from the name) AK- Achievements Unlocked or Animated Enchantments.esp. It could also be a debuff or broken debuff from a mod like SL Survival.esp, SexLab-StoriesDevious.esp, Slaverun_Reloaded.esp, Being a guard, xazPrisonOverhaulPatched.esp, or zThingsInDark.esp. I'm pretty sure that more than one of those is incompatible with others. Some are dodgy on their own. You have a LOT of mods - Some conflict is inevitable. Frankly I'm impressed you got all this to run without a CTD-fest!
jorgen.klein Posted August 14, 2020 Posted August 14, 2020 that bug is not uncommon, it can happen with any skill at any time, and no it doesn't have anything to do with mods (least as far as I know) the test is simple.. use "incpcs destruction" if it doesn't go up.. you have the bug.. then you should use "advancepcskill (in this case "destruction") 10" (not higher) that will usually eliminate the bug, and you can progress normally troughout the game.

They all have in common that I modified them relatively soon in my playthrough with the setav command. So this is most likely indeed not mod related, but as I have played a lot since then, I would prefer not loading a prior save. Yeah, there are some bugs (besides this apparently self-inflicted one) but it surprisingly stable, just a few CTDs actually less than in my old skyrim days

jorgen.klein Posted August 14, 2020 Posted August 14, 2020 PLayer. setav should only be used to adjust Health, Stamina and Magic otherwise it is best not to use it... instead you can better use player.incpcs (highly recommended) or if you got stuck (which is usually temporary, least till you sleep or restart your game) advancepcskill and use between 10-25 as modifier. that will usually unstuck the skill, on which you can normally develop the affected skill, I noticed too many times that player.setav can make your game and savegame go corrupt... Basics: Setav = Health, Stamina and magicka Modav = carryweight and dragonsouls incpcs & advancepcskill = increase the experience of a skill As last resort to unstuck the skill you can also use: player.addperk (but for that you need the code for every perk and every skill)

Coincedences dont exist, if it always happen like that, then it is most certainly the case...

Usually I fixed it by using this skill. But player.incpcs is by far the better way.

Sometimes a certain event should trigger a level up (ex. reading a skill book or using the skill trainers) but the experience points you have don't match the vanilla value, so it looks like your skill progress is stuck. Adding the minimal amount of experience with the advskill command or gaining experience by using the skill will fix it, restoring normal skill progression and triggering any level up that wasn't triggered before.

I do not use any mod changing this rates. Destruction e.g. I did with skillbooks/trainer only and it got stuck, but sneaking , speech, onehanded leveled to 100 without problems.

So it could happen even in vanilla, but it's way more noticeable with mods altering experience rates. At least that's what I recall from playing with Requiem for a couple of years where this issue was relatively common.

It is hard to see, but I think I noticed a very small movement on the bar after the first try before it went up clearly visible.
Gameplayer Posted April 8, 2022 Posted April 8, 2022 Just had this happen to my game, advskill "anyskill" 10 So example of what I did, advskill alteration 10 That got alteration leveling again properly, first noticed this when going to an alteration skill trainer and pumped 5 levels of training and was still stuck at level 16 in the UI. Attempting to cast a dozen alteration skills did not even budge the experience for the skill until I used the console command. There really needs to be a set of achievements for overcoming the various in game bugs that happen, way better than say getting level 100 in a skill is successfully using a console command to fix a bug.
