ZetsuboSeishin Posted August 7, 2020 Posted August 7, 2020 So I have a two speaker sound stereo sound system with no subwoofer. My problem is that the sound is really low and not loud enough even when I put it to 100%. There is no loudness enhancement option for my sound options in the control panel either. So I dont know what else can I do to fix this. Is there any known solution out there that I havent found yet? I will appreciate any kind of help.

If I were at home I could give you the details of what to do but let me see if I can recall this correctly. You need to go into sound for Windows. Then you need to find how the speakers are set up by default - it is probably set to be quadraphonic (4 speaker) if you're having an issue. Reset it for 2 speakers (that should be available from the pull down). IIRC you will be able to test this before you leave the control panel. If it works go back in game and test it. When I've had this problem it normally occurs after the audio drivers have been messed with (updated) and the default setting shave been put back in place. Most typically what will happen is that when I speak with an NPC and look directly at them I can barely hear them, if at all. However, if I face somewhat away from them I can hear them better.

I have set it on stereo but the sound is still far too down. I read on the internet that the skyrim sound system treats all sounds as surround 5.1. So, the stereo and other options dont really get the sound that is for them. Its a bug apparently. There are some fixes that I have found but it doesnt work for me. https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/29881/ I have also changed the value of fAudioMasterVolume to 10.0 in skyrimprefs.ini where default was 1.0 I have seen some places where this was the fix. Update: using the Quiet Sound Fix solution, the sound indeed gets louder but you cant hear the NPCs speak. Pasting the instructions given on that solution here in case someone can help me out from that: 1.Click on "start" (on your desktop) 2.Click on "control panel" 3.Click on "View by:Large icons" (top right) 4.Click on "Sound" 5.Right click on your "default Device" (will have green tick) 6.Click on "configure speakers" 7.Check box "5.1 surround" then "next" 8.Uncheck boxes then "next" 9.check "front left and right" only, then "next" and "finish" Note: if you already have 5.1 speakers you will not be getting the problem needed for this fix, this only really works for 2.1 set ups, thanks. Fix: Disable DTS Sound effects. Enable Windows Spatial Sound with the option Sonic Headphones.
Grey Cloud Posted August 7, 2020 Posted August 7, 2020 I used to use speakers and now I use headphones and there is nothing wrong with Skyrim's sound level with either. Presumably your sound if good from other sources like music or vids, etc?

Presumably your sound if good from other sources like music or vids, etc? Its fine if you use headphones. I use my corsair headphones to play from last night and it has been fine so I tried to activate the spatial sound and it fixed the problem. I dont know whats the cause I have been playing other games and been back to skyrim after 5 months and found this issue after I changed from 5.1 sound system to just 2 speakers. The other games, netflix, etc. dont have this problem and my sound is fine for those. The solution is given on my post above yours. You gotta use Spatial sound in the sound settings in the control panel, which probably emulates windows sonic headphones or something. I am not sure since I am not knowledgeable on this, but my problem is fixed and the sound level is good now and same as all the other games.
Grey Cloud Posted August 8, 2020 Posted August 8, 2020 I'm on Windows 10 and my audio is set to stereo and I've never had to mess with the audio settings. Can't recall any problem with W7 either.
thesteve812 Posted August 8, 2020 Posted August 8, 2020 iirc I had same problem and this fixed it for me. I had to change the bit rate settings for sound card. http://www.gamesas.com/how-fix-low-sound-volume-t226071.html
