Skyrim LE More Mods more Glitches

Recommended Posts

Posted

Apologies if this subject is listed somewhere else, there's a lot of forums and blogs to wade through.

Has anyone encountered increasingly buggy games play the more mods you add over time with Skyrim LE? I use Nexus Mod manager to install the mods, and it seems with each mod added,

That more glitches or general performance issues occur, Such as game crashing, or simply not wanting to load. Or characters missing albeit gameplay still progresses.

While I expected some issue, as Fallout 4 has had a few minor bugs due to modding, Skyrim LE seems to really suffer.

What has your experiences been and what, if anything, have you done to fix it?

UPDATE: A few people mentioned load order. So I took a look and realized just how many mods I actually have loaded into Skyrim. My current plan is to go scorched earth; I'm going to completely delete and reinstall everything. Then cut back on mods.

The more mods you install the more important your LO and overwrites get, especially if you have mods that nearly do the same or need patches to stay compatible to each other and not conflict.

The better graphic mods you use the more vram gets used up until you reach the vanilla SKyrim limits.

The more mods do polling and add active scripts at any given time, the closer you come to the engine limitations.

The more mods you install the more ram gets used up until you reach the Skyrim vanilla limits.

The more mods add strings to the vanilla skyrim save, the closer you come to the 65k limit.

More animations bring you to the FNIS limit.

There is also the 254 plugin limit for Skyrim.

Also the mod combination you created has a high influence how stable your game will be.

To overcome (some of) those limits you need stability fixes that enable you to add even more mods without killing your game right away (still possible with bugged mods, wrong overwrites, clusterfucks, bad LO sequence and the like):

It is a common occurrence for a save to crash as you mod the game, simply because you are adding and removing files from the game as you mod.

Personally, I always keep a save at level 1 in the LAL cell. Whenever I add a new mod, I will load the save to test the mod, and use either Quicksave or create a new safe along the test. In the event if I do not like the mod or I find it not performing as it is intended, I simply delete the mod, as well as the saves I created during the test.

This means that my 'clean' save stays clean, without having orphaned scripts attached caused by the uninstallation of mods. If I do like the mod after the tests, I create a new clean save.

In addition to following donttouchmethere's blog, consider cleaning your save with Savetool or ReSaver from Fallrim Tools, just the other day a guy cleaned his 3 year save and found 5k unattached instance and undefined elements.

LOL sound advice.

Yeah I just looked at my load order.........I think it's time to trim it down. I have WAAAAAY too many mods. But yes, they did start with the DLC. And it's all down hill from there.

Well currently the saves just stop loading, or the game crashes in mid play through.

Now where do I find this Savetool? Is it here or on Nexusmods?

Also what's an LAL cell?

The cell you end up after starting a new game if this mod is installed: https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/9557/

LAL = short for "Live Another Life"

Also known as the "MCM PRISON" (made that up)

Grab this one: https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/5031

(yes it says SE, but it works for multiple games... I hope ?)

Yes it does, I am on LE, and it worked fine for me. ;)

Oh yeah, not sure if you already know this, but if you want to rename your save you can use the tilde key '~' to open console, and use the command:

save "<insert name>"

So for example (save "Nani The Heck") will create a new save named 'Nani The Heck' instead of the usual location name.

Useful if you want to keep track of which save is which, especially if you have a whole bunch of save in the same area in game. I normally name them something like "After SRR" to tell future me that save is right after I installed Slaverun Reloaded (SRR).

Not a bad idea actually, I'll keep that in mind

You didn't check my blog yet didn't you ?

Alternate Start - Live Another Life

  • prevents the vanilla Helgen Intro and to start in a save cell to give all mods time to load

LAL is mainly needed as a save way to start a new game with a heavy modded Setup:

> prevents the scripted vanilla start that interferes with mods loading or the other way around

> gives mods time to load and do a save/load cycle

> lets you activate and modify MCM settings before any Skyrim cell gets loaded or NPCs get effected

> good place to create a "base save" you can fall back to for double load or to chose an alternative start for a new character play-style line (with the same name PC tho)

> because Skyrim cell don't get effected while in LAL Prison you can test LO changes from there

> changing MCM settings of mods (or adding removing NPC effecting mods) that effect other NPCs can be safely done there (because the NPCs aren't loaded yet)

> provides a way to quickly test if your setup works, because you don't have to go thru the whole vanilla start squence

Not yet, no, I want to completely reinstall Skyrim. So I want to set aside a block of time to deal with that an also read your blog.

SO it gives the mods time to load, you say? Okay now you have my attention. Where in the load order should it go?

at the end!

Use LOOT to sort your LO. It should place it close to the end of your LO.

If LOOT doesn't do that - for what ever reason - move it manually down.

The reason: if too many mods get loaded after LAL (that also would modify the LAL cell) it can fail to load and you get a CTD on a new game.

Your PC on the profile pic found the only right way to "sit" on a chair if DD stuffed! ?

That's the only way for her to sit when the whore sign butt plug is in her ?

Spoiler

I wished she wasn't floating though, I wonder if that is caused by the heels effect :(

Yeah I suggest to take your time. Once I had reinstalled Skyrim and tried to rush through mods as quickly as I can, and when I found issues I have no idea which mod is causing it.

It is also worth noting that LAL is more like a safe space. While it does replace the vanilla start of Skyrim, it does not take it away. If you want to see the iconic and memed-to-hell Skyrim start, you can still choose to do so, by just selecting vanilla start in the LAL room.

I always use showracemenu to change the name and look of my PC in a new game, can't be assed to reconfigure the mods for every new PC ?

This is actually a very hot pic => the face expression => priceless! ?

Was that with a pose mod?

yes it is from the heels ?

There is a patch for nioverride to adapt heel effect to furniture, but it also messes up animated object furniture alignment during sexlab animations ?

There is no solution (I know of) to have it all ?‍♂️

It is a combination of Blush When Aroused's blush, and expression set to 'Dazed', since it is weighted by arousal, I think my PC's arousal then is somewhere between 40-60.

Kinda hard to tell from the pic, but she has a gag on, hence the opened mouth. ;)

The pose itself is from GSPoses, under object pose.

Ahh that's too bad ? and there isn't a rusty iron 'shoe' to complete the set.

I don't see anything wrong with the ones she is already wearing :classic_blush:

But I know what you mean, there can't be enough variations of lockable iron heels (without a high heel effect) ?

Haha, I know right! I love DD items, but some of them stand out too much. Personally I have always tried to stay somewhat closer to the lore and setting of Skyrim, and a neon pink armbinder is a bit too much for me. The iron, chains and rope sets are great though ?

Now, if only there are piercings with small bells similar to the bell plugs.. ?

You find that tool in my blog.

How did you sort your load order without background knowledge?

I didn't really sort it beyond loading required mods in order as listed, eg: SKE, Skyui, FNIS, Then Sexlab. Beyond that, I just let the order sit as I loaded them. In the past I tried moving mods but that resulted in breaking the game.
