TheoryoftheDead Posted March 11, 2013 Posted March 11, 2013 Just 5? Uh...my top list would probably look something like this:(The positions are pretty much interchangeable, as most of these games are equally good in my opinion. Right now they are just lined up in the amount of time I spent on them) 1, Seiken Densetsu 3 (Secret of mana 2) 2, Tales of Phantasia 3, Earthworm Jim 4, Werewolf - The last warrior 5, Final Fantasy 6
Irishredneck Posted March 12, 2013 Posted March 12, 2013 Got room for the old dude? 1. Cavern of Larn 2. Wing Commander 3. Kings Quest (1st one) 4. Leisure Suit Larry (1st one) 5. Archon Yeah.. I'm THAT friggin' old.
gregathit Posted March 12, 2013 Posted March 12, 2013 Got room for the old dude? Yeah.. I'm THAT friggin' old. Well, you should be familiar with these then: 1. Lode Runner - Holy hell I played the crap out of this. 2. - lots of fun.3. - again, tons of time spent playing this.4. - I don't know how many hours I wasted playing this!! 5. - this was the first game that had blood and allowed dismemberment that I remember. Xariama Posted March 12, 2013 Posted March 12, 2013 5. Ultima III. First real computer game I got into. 4. Final Fantasy III. The first real epic game for a console for me. 3. Gauntlet. The original, still holds a spot to me. 2. MechWarrior 2. If only someone could get a version of it to run on a modern machine. 1. Tempest. Can't count the number of quarters that thing ate.
Irishredneck Posted March 12, 2013 Posted March 12, 2013 Well played gregathit! I never thought to look on Youtube for those. Here's Cavern of Larn, it was called Spear of Destiny for the Atari: [spoiler=Larn] And Wing Commander. I remember how amazed I was at these awesome graphics. I had to go buy 2 more memory sticks for the 8088 in order to play it.. bringing my total up to 1 mb! [spoiler=Wing Commander]
gregathit Posted March 12, 2013 Posted March 12, 2013 Good stuff Irishredneck! To be honest I couldn't remember the actual game names of most of that list. Lode Runner was the only game that I remembered the title to, so I went google searching for it. I stumbled on the wiki page and latter stumbled on some dude's youtube page that had most if not all of the game names and vids. I am not sure exactly how many hours I spent watching them last night before came back and linked to them. It was a pretty neat trip down memory lane! I can't remember what game it was but I remember it being like 10 floppy disks, which at the time was unheard of (might have been lode runner or something similar). Much latter came the good old Sim Savers....remember those? I also remember that I bought some extra memory for my IBM's video card, which looked like small rectangle processor chips (without the spikes). I had to do both to get enough memory (video and system both) to play the first command and conquer game.

I played Castle Wolfestein on an ancient laptop. I dare to say one of the first Apple laptops in the market. or maybe becaue I live in the 3rd world and by my age those were the games of the moment? who cares, old games ftw.
Irishredneck Posted March 13, 2013 Posted March 13, 2013 And how many of the younger generation can say, "I remember buying 512k memory sticks for $300." or "My first hard drive was a whopping 1mb. It was as big as a Buick."
gregathit Posted March 13, 2013 Posted March 13, 2013 And how many of the younger generation can say, "I remember buying 512k memory sticks for $300." or "My first hard drive was a whopping 1mb.
