Character and NPCs floating next to the Dragonsreach Fireplace

So apparently i have had this issue for a while but im trying to figure out what causes it.

There is like an invisible stair or something on the firepit of Dragonsreach and every NPC walking on it seems to kinda walk on air, while my character who has a different walking animation doesnt.

Its pretty weird really.

It only occurs to me if i stop walking and stand still. 

I remember reading something a long time ago about it being caused by SMIM? Could this actually be the cause?

My guess is that its something very easy to fix and mostly has to do something either with animation mods or a possible mess conflict.

However i wasnt able to find any info on it.

I never had that kind of conflict, so I can't help with a direct solution.

What I would do to find out what is going on:

> click on the invisible stairs and check if any object ID shows up in console

> check if you have mods that manipulate Dragonreach

> check if you have a merge that gave out a warning like "navmesh conflict, Navmesh needs to be rebuild"

> multiple light mods that replace fireplaces

 

only mod that I know from first glimpse that would add stairs to the fireplace is POP during a scene: stairs and a cage above the dragonreach fireplace

but that should be gone after a scene and should not be there at all if never triggered (during jail time in dragonreach).

I also use POP and didn't see that effect on Dragonreach, but I had odd issues with it in Solitude with invisible stairs on stairs that only NPC could use ?‍♂️ (unrelated to fireplace.)

 

I use SMIM-Merged-All.esp too and never encountered that issue.

Although I have also no mod that changes the fireplace in Dragonreach, only ELFX maybe.

 

All not very helpful I guess, but might give inspiration.

I hope you can read something in console if you try to click on the invisible stairs.

You could also click on the fire place to see what mod modified it last.

Thanks for that! Definitely helps even a little bit! I will try clicking on the invisible stair i guess since only fire mod im using is the HD fire effects mod which shouldnt affect it at all.

 

Never had navmess issues with my merges plus im currently using the Smashed Patch which last time i checked had no issues like that. (I literally just run the patches again too)

not so fast, it can effect it!

 

from the HD fire effects mod page:

"Deleted the SMIM compatible patch. You don't need it anymore. Simply install the actual SMIM version and overwrite conflicting files."

Gonna check it out now. Altho im not sure how to overwrite those.

I clicked on the invisible object and its saying that it was last affected by Sneaktools.esp while being part of Smashed Patch.esp

 

(note im running Ultimate HD Fire Effects way below SMIM which should mean that its overwriting it already no?)

 

PS: Disabling both it and the smashed patch did not fix it. Still shows Sneaktools and now also shows POP affecting it.

Found it. It was indeed Sneak Tools. FML i dont even know what to replace it with...

Yeah should have been fixed with the smashed patch (Mator's) but its not. The patch didnt fix it either. Its going out saddly

You're not the first person to have a problem caused by Sneak Tools which nobody would have guessed. The mod seems to specialise in problems unrelated to sneaking and stealth.

Oh lordy. So happy to have stumbled on this thread. I have literally spent hours and hours messing with my load order, disabling this that and the other, starting new games, enabling mods one at a time trying to find out why tf people walk over an invisible step next to the fireplace in Dragonsreach.  I would never in a thousand years have guessed that SneakTools was the cuplrit.

Reluctant to let it go as I really like the masks and throat-slitting features, but now I see what it's done to Dragonsreach who knows what other weird effects it might have created in other places.

There are some mods that might fill in. I have Pull Mastery that covers the rope arrows feature with assorted grappling hook spells (does it better than ST anyway I think) and Sneak Arsenal which adds some "diversionary arrows" (I guess reanimating corpses from a distance qualifies as diversionary lol). And Dynamic Immersive Seriously Dark Dungeons lets you extinguish/relight torches etc in dungeons, albeit not from a distance. Also just discovered that there's a throat-slitting only version of Sneak Tools available on the mod page as well.

Now I just want something now that will provide the face masks feature, I really liked that one.

Cheers all anyway, the Dragonsreach fireplace thing was driving me absolutely spare.

Edit; Using different search terms on Nexus came up with Master of Disguise, and Bandit Facemask Disguise. The last one looks pretty similar to ST's facemasks feature while MoD appears to add a whole new layer of sneaky roleplaying : )  Just leaving this here in case anybody else finds it useful.

trying to figure out a fix for the castle floor fire pit in dragons reach.

looking at it in the creation kit, under the burning logs (FXfireWithEmbersLogs01) their are some embers (FXfireWithEmbersLight) Form ID 000DCC1F.

instead of the original mesh (fxfirewithembers02.nif) "fxfirewithembers02withcoll.nif". is now being used by every instance of FXfireWithEmbersLight.
