[StarSector] Image Replacer Mod

StarSector has a far larger modding community than one would expect, especially considering (as you said) the dev is putting zero effort into marketing or advertising. 

 

But now that it's here, and seeing that art, it occurs to me there are a few sex theme possibilities buried in there.  Right off the top maybe someone could make a brothel building structure for colonies?  Lowers stability but actually generates money on it's own (based on planet accessibility rating) and increases colony population growth rate?

Another idea - not sure if possible - would be allow capturing enemy captains.  Right now, defeated captains have a chance to become "VIP prisoners" but their portrait art vanishes and they just turn into a generic spacesuit in your cargo hold.  If there was a way to make them keep their original portraits after capture, however.... well, you see where I'm going with this.

The most bang for your buck in terms of lewd StarSector mods would probably be a random event mod, exploration events, diplomacy events, etc. They can be small and simple events, balanced with both pros and cons (and an opt-out choice for each event), plus you can tailor them to existing images you'd like to use. In fact, I would start with select artwork: It will be a lot easier to make up an event that fits a picture than to try to find a picture that matches a pre-conceived situation. Either way, Stellaris should have ample inspiration for that topic.

 

I doubt I will find time for that, however, I might do a portrait pack one day. We'll see. They're not that large, but we can probably squeeze some cleavage in there...

You say for this mod that it "replaces" the images for certain events/locations (ie, going to bars).  Does this always replace said images for every event/location, or just adds to possibilities (or both, depending on the location/event)?  Not looking for every bar I check out to have a topless dancer, sometimes just want that band from the Star Wars cantina scene, ya know!

 

Also, all the other stuff suggested, not having an open port colony with brothels (and casinos!) seems a crime.  Or that raiding doesn't produce the commodity equivalent of slave labor (like crew or marines, but illegal, only requires food/supplies, and reduces economic costs at colonies.  Also might rebel in sufficient numbers, although how this would work in stockpile screen I dunno.).

 

I mean, honestly, the fact that you can go to bars in this game and not have some gambling option (doesn't have to be a poker simulator, just smashing percentages together) seems to miss significant dramatic potential, even with skills instead of stats to effect win chances.  How is Hando Solrissian supposed to gamble away his ship?  Or win one?  But I guess that's what you get when you smash together a bunch of systems on top of a spaceship battle simulator...  The eventual update that adds story points might allow for some sort of better system to handle a lot of this (at least gambling, maybe blowing a story point could also allow for better loodness) even though it does seem to be an unnecessary additional fix.  But prolly better to not bother coding something for this game until it is at least at the 1.0 official release, since so much in flux.

 

Basically, does this mod fully replace or supplement?

NEW PATCH OUT!  So like another 2 years before 1.0 release... but in any case, prolly time to start rolling this mod and/or the Boobsector mod into a more complex and in-depth mod.  Or maybe just a new mod entirely... although making it so this mod occasionally shows a pole dancer image at bars rather than completely replace images would be dope.

 

Nexelrin mod adds a high value prisoner commodity, might want to look into combining that with the new marine xp code and make a dynamic range of whores to stable in a colony building whorehouse (the DIY planets mod adds a bunch of colony buildings, can prolly adapt that code into making a whorehouse).  Whether such a commodity is procured via the new contacts system (for more experienced prosties or unique ones if that is possible), or just bought as straight commodities from pirates (and maybe sometimes after battles), or captured via raiding up for debate (all three seems valid, just complicated).  However, brothels should usually only be allowed in free ports (so maybe also have crappy brothels spawn at pirate bases), although maybe Tri-Tachyon gets one or two high-class brothels that player can't access without decent TT rep (or maybe requires a TT contact to access).  Alternatively (and more likely), brothels can be built anywhere prostitution is legal, but free ports add a multiplier effect (kinda already would if colony size is primary factor for calculating money generation, but that version would basically be more of a compounded effect).

 

Also, prostitution could maybe be illegal for Hegemony (ie, gets in trouble if found during colony inspection or cargo scan), definitely illegal for Ludd Church!  Might also want to hook prostie system into rep reward system (ie, turning enslaved prosties into certain factions give rep gain, assuming slavery and not that prosties are considered an employee that generates cash money minus minimal expenses).  Maybe also make enslaved prostitutes illegal in TT, but paid prostitutes are fine (this would necessitate multiple different kinds of prostitute commodities, maybe slave prostitutes are excluded from xp system or have a separate xp system from the classier and more courtesan/Firefly companion version).  In any case, having legal prostitution and brothel built should reduce stability by at least -1 (although negative effects would likely be mitigated or completely eliminated by certain upgrades, discussed below)

 

How much money is generated by brothels (since I'm assuming that there won't be literally one brothel per planet, maybe only one on space stations though) should be at least partially dependent on how much trade/traffic a planet engages in, although colony size will prolly be main factor.  Would also be dope for brothel to be visitable option when on a planet (ie, like visiting a bar).  So could meet/make contacts at a bar, or make/meet contacts at a brothel.  Whether this mod would add unique contacts via brothels (to procure more booty a minimum) also a possibility, though such contacts would also have to do some normal contact stuff also.  Alternatively (and possibly easier) would be to add a "procure [x type] whores for money" to pirate contacts.  Also, maybe add some sort of synergy effect with the commerce industry (basically a multiplier)... whether this is used instead of some multiplier from free port status (or both?) remains to be seen.  Also, brothels should also generate at least some costs (besides keeping the lights on and the refreshments chilled), including costs for hired prostitutes/unique courtesans, bouncers (dunno if these would be robots, marines, or something new), plus medical costs for when johns slap someone around (or worse).  Dunno if old age is really an issue in this game, but prositutes don't work forever... some turnover will be required (also creates a reason/market for selling prosties elsewhere they are legal).

 

Maybe also add some sort of separate prostie school building to convert whores into different versions (ie, implant/remove the Suicide Squad nano-explosive ensuring compliance), and maybe also more quickly generates xp for any whore on planet (up to some level, after some arbitrary point any given whore would only get more xp from just working).  I would say that whores with more xp would be worth more, but since all whores but unique ones would prolly be using the marine pooling xp mechanism, seems like that possibility might work (since whore xp would be pooled).  Last, school necessary to break/convert captured enemy captains into unique prosties (and/or high-value targets if this mod linked to Nex).

 

Finally, since colony buildings can now also be upgraded, should also be able to upgrade brothels also.  Whether brothels are considered just a regular building (most likely), an industry, or some upgrade to commerce industry unclear, although prolly won't end up being an industry unless maybe after some sort of upgrade (like how Patrol HQ is just a building, but can't upgrade unless industry slot available; essentially the inverse of having commerce industry upgrade to include).  Whether the upgrades just make the brothel generate more money, reduce costs (in-house medical for when johns slap someone around or a fat one has a heart attack), increase fame/infamy (if that is really a thing), reduce likelihood of being found during Hegemony inspection, or add/remove certain unique events from being generated all possibilities.

 

In any case, prolly time to finish this long ass post.  Also, might not want to "update" this mod right away, prolly gonna be at least one bug fix update for game soon.  Food for thought.

Updated version check to 0.95a, added the 5 or so extra images that came in the latest big update.

 

If any more bugfix updates etc come out, feel free to manually change the version number in the file for this mod - all it does is change images, so it will probably be forever compatible, regardless of what the version checker says.

 

Let me know in the thread if you have suggestions for better images for a given situation.

I should actually already correct my previous post, there is a mod on the website that adds slavery, prolly easiest to adopt/build on that mod.  Although since some sort of balance patch gonna be dropped in the next few months, prolly will have to wait until after that...
