Do you all own all expansions?

Whenever I get excited and download some CC/sims/whatever, they always fail on me since i do not own the expansions packs from where parts of the creation are from.

For example, sims that i try to import into my game will be partially nude and/or completely black.

So why are the required expansion packs required for a download never stated, is there a way around this or is it assumed that you own all of them?

Some people state the required expansion packs in the description and some don't. I think a lot of user created sims will at this point contain clothes, shoes, accessories or hairstyles from the popular expansions, especially if the author goes for the MAXIS-match look. Some sims are more "friendly" to people without a lot of the expansions than other.

I don't think there's a simple solution to this, except going over the outfits and either removing them completely or replacing the missing parts. Another way would be using an outfit mod such as this one (by @2cool4u_1, with a minor contribution by yours truly) to replace the broken outfits with decent outfits using only the expansions you have. I don't own all the expansions either, by the way - only those I thought were good value for me.

As a side note, I consider myself lucky when the sim I download can be even placed in the game, because most of the time the game just yells at me for using a version that is too old. ?

Alright, ill check that out. Thanks

Funny how YOU are the one to respond, since your sims were the last thing i downloaded prior to creating this thread. Somehow the game told me "Could not locate content" or something like that when i tried to access them through the gallery

I own most of them, except a couple that I haven't bought because they don't really interest me (such as the recent one with magic). I'm pretty bad about indicating when I've used items from expansion packs for the sims I upload in general, though I think I kind of get around this by creating a bunch of outfits for each of my sims, typically mixing and matching items from various CC and game packs, so for the people who download my sims they should mostly have at least some outfits that work, while others might be incomplete.

Yep, it does that. Sometimes you can get graphical glitches (black textures,...) when there's a recolor of an item originating from an expansion you do not own. The quickest "solution" might really be just clicking through the outfits and checking for the glitches and the presence of top, bottom and shoes (as missing accessories or hats usually do not matter that much). I think that Lara and especially the updated Olivia use non-negligible amount of the expansion pack stuff. The expansion pack requirements for Olivia are in the description (missing for Lara though), but it is possible there's an error in them too.

I thought the Gallery DID show the packs used to create a sim?  Just went to a random gallery family and found yes, it does show you what was used to create them:

To answer your question, no, I do not, nor do I plan to.  Some of the stuff just doesn't interest me at all, the movie pack for example.

I only own a few of the DLC.  I rarely have problems - but a big part of it is anything new I look at with S4S (Sims 4 Studio) first to make sure I really like it (I have over 7000 CC, I need to control what I add), and any bad ones due to missing DLC are noticeable there because there's no mesh so body parts turn invisible.  So they never enter my game.

That said, I almost exclusively import CC, not pre-made sims.
