Mod Creation woes

I'll spare you the background that inspired the mod idea
It's really a DUMB idea, but is something I want. A armor piece that fits over standard armor (I typically wear the wasteland trench) It's a baby carrier with a baby Deathclaw in it. Sort of like a Vest

(Ok, now that you're done laughing at me)

Worn the the death claw in the front (The Hangover movie style) It'd be cool if the DC would maybe move or play small idles inside the carrier. But I don't know what that would take IF it could be done. It'd be purely cosmetic, not a companion or anything.

I've reached out to some mod Authors and even Googled Mod Commission when I found out I can't commission a mod.

I have been watch Blender for newbs and other such guides, But I am truly lost on how to do this. Really wish I could just buy it or "Tip" a creator for their knowledge. I just don't know and have given up on this.

Having never attempted anything quite like this, I suspect it would only work if the deathclaw could somehow be "mounted" on the PC (same way Skyrim's horse mounting works).

I have no idea if that can be done.

EDIT:  The only other way I can think of would be an "AnimObject" of a Deathclaw being attached to the PC (via a "spell/magic effect" with an attached hit object) that just self-animates in a loop or whatever.  That would require fairly extensive work by a skilled animator.

The Idles are an after thought, Like how they "sniff" the air with their tongue out. The Primary Part would just be static (like "wearing" a stuffed animal) and if that worked even with not movement I'd be ecstatic.

Thanks for the reply

This is all assuming you have a working .obj/3dsmax model with textures.

Option 1) Approach it like 'regular' clothing

I think if you have the model, you can simply import it into outfit studio and make it into a piece of clothing, assign it to an unused armor/clothing slot and it should fit over everything. So that 'clothing' part is not that hard (if you know how to model and make clothing from models). There are quite a few tutorials on youtube out there you could follow.

As for animations, that's harder. It will require scripting. The piece of clothing would have a script which would 'animate' it. And that's where it gets really hard, cause I don't think you can animate clothing.

Option 2) Weapons have animations.

Perhaps you could abuse the 'left hand' slot and make it into a weapon. I'm not sure about clothing placement 3rd person view, but then 3rd person and 1st person animations would be possible.

Option 3) Use the activator/furniture/static approach.

So statics CAN have animations (e.g. furniture). You could 'bind' a piece of furniture/activator/static to the player, then position it correctly.

Challenges:

- You might need a 3rd person and 1st person model. Usually 3rd person models (e.g. most clothing) are less detailed than 1st person models (weapons)

- SOMEONE MUST CONFIRM: I don't think clothing can be animated, if you stick with an inanimated version (e.g. regular clothing) it will be easier and you could follow any of the tutorials on how to import clothing into Fo4.

- You can use several approaches (e.g. clothing/armor or make it a 'weapon' or make it some kind of furniture/static piece that's bound to the player/NPC.

First off, The man, the myth, the LEGEND! @Reginald_001 commented on my post!!!!!

(i'm not worthy, I'm not worthy) I wanted to ask you Directly and didn't want to hijack Ivy's thread

I DON'T has ANY models made nor do I know HOW to do so. I've been watching youtube videos on that. I do have all the tools (PS, Blender, 3Ds max and CC) I'm starting small right now and trying to make a tattoo overlay. As for the DC Carrier I think I'm gonna start small there too and just have it as static Clothing. Animation is just a bonus, not a must.

I appreciate your input SO MUCH!! and it gives me a good place to start. I honestly doubt I will be able to do this on my own. As I've said before I have ZERO modding experience
