Demonwise Posted January 18, 2013 Posted January 18, 2013 I wonder how many people remember Texmod? As it is pretty old now a lot of modders should know a thing or two about it. Building off of how old it is, it is becoming more and more common to find games that just don't work with Texmod. I am wondering if anyone has heard of any programs that do pretty much the same thing as texmod and are a lot newer (as in probably more compatible with today's games)? If so does anyone know where I can find them/it?
gregathit Posted January 18, 2013 Posted January 18, 2013 As old as it is, there are still a lot of games that modders use it for. I too would be interested in alternatives....if there even are any.
Demonwise Posted January 18, 2013 Author Posted January 18, 2013 I know of two games that it disappointingly does not work for. Half-Life 2, Ep 1 & 2 and Saints Row the Third. I have not yet tried it with Far Cry 3 but I hope it works.
zippy57 Posted January 18, 2013 Posted January 18, 2013 You only really need TexMod for games that can't have their assets changed any other way. I'm not sure about the others, but I know Saints Row the Third can have its assets changed directly, meaning TexMod isn't needed.

As mentioned previously, texmod is *only* useful for games where you cannot modify the assets directly.

[/quote'] True, I know that Source engine game and Saints Row can have there assets changed but sometimes not without a very lengthy process. Mind you the results would be better but let's assume that a person does not have the necessary tools to modify the assets of something from say HL2. I have been looking for years for a way to import the models for HL2 into blender but so far I haven't found anything. Sometimes the game developers throw modders a ball where the mesh in the game is already I ideally suited for just modifying the texture.Example below contains spoilers for Mass Effect 3. Take for instance in the game Mass Effect 3 when Ashley is in the hospital. The shirt that she is wearing is absolutely skin tight. Very easy just to modify the textures via Texmod and get fantastic results. Example below contains spoilers for Mass Effect 3. I guess what I am getting at is that if all you want to do is mess with textures for a game one of the easiest tools out there to do it is Texmod. And so I would be interested in finding anything that fulfills the same purpose. On a separate note, as I mentioned earlier if someone knows of a blender import/export for the HL2 files and can point me in the direction for attaining it I would be greatful.
zippy57 Posted January 19, 2013 Posted January 19, 2013 You might want to put your "spoilers ahead" text before the spoiler tags. Instead of inside them and after the spoiler.
