Nice, but unfortunately 90% of users here are using Airplane Randy's mod which directly conflicts with you replacing the Romance channel. You should replace a different channel (not the News channel either). Another user recently made a similar mod and included the option to replace either the romance or news channel.

Might I also suggest separating out the real footage from the Sims Animations?  I'd want the latter, but not the former.

I suppose the reason for the romance channel as a choice was the flirty buff it already provided, but with XML edits it should be possible to do it on another channel.

I had thought Airplane Randy's mod was no longer working properly or supported, but perhaps that is incorrect.

Oddly this seems to be a duplicate page for the mod that doesn't include screenshots. I'm not sure how that happened.

 

I see your point on the in-game animations vs standard porn clips. Unfortunately they are kind of intermixed, but more clips are in the works and it could potentially be reconfigured.

While it's a work in progress, there are ambitions to turn it into more than just a porn channel mod, although that is how it is starting out.

One thing I could use is help determining the potential benefits of the existing in-game channels, which helps make informed decisions on which channels could be replaced.

I know the Romance channel provided a flirty buff, and the cooking channel helps with cooking skills etc, but I'm unsure on some of the others. Wouldn't want to replace something vital to the game itself. But seeing as CinErotique TV provided another channel option, this may be a good idea. Ideally, I'd like to get it so users could have the option of having all three, but again, don't want to replace something important.

peco328 (of CinErotique) figured out how to copy the Flirty buffs from the Romance channel to their replacement News channel.

 

Maybe you could do the same for another channel that gives duplicate buffs  - Action, maybe, since Sports is more effective at raising Fun than Action and News?

Just saying that I'd be more than happy to have a channel that only shows real porn for a change. For the moment I'm even removing the other mod for the romance channel to finally see something like that

That's exactly what I have in mind, SpessMareen. I'm considering what channels can be replaced with minimal impact to the game, and that don't rely on expansions. Action is not a bad idea. Maybe I can keep the fun buff and add the flirty one. I'll have  to look into it.

I see your point, wheremahdragonz. While I have both on here, quite a lot of it is real porn. It takes some creativity to squeeze real clips down to the 3-4 minute range (longer seems to crash the game) but I've found some ways to do it.

When it comes to channel selections there's several approaches still available for you can take. If you want to go basegame then the next best channel to use will be the Action channel since it only provides Fun and there are other channels that does this too. If you want to keep it basegame but more like a premium channel then the Fireplace Channel will be a good one to replace. It provides Fun and removes the Tense moodlet which might could work for sexually frustrated sims I guess. You will have to upgrade your TV first to unlock this channel, (could think of it as a parental guidance thing or adding some sort of streaming service to the TV.) If you don't mind needing the Get To Work pack then the !#*%&$@% Channel (the alien channel) will be good to replace since it provide nothing as far as moods and skills goes in the game. You will need to have an upgraded satellite on your lot in order to get this channel, (again you can think of this as some sort of premium and parental guidance all-in-one.) I personally would like this new channel to be one of the upgraded options, as it would provide some type of actual lock to this kind of content on all TV's in the game, so sims on community lots like bars won't be watching porn on the TV's unless you upgrade them first.

Thanks BossGame, I think the Action channel is the best candidate considering it's not expansion dependent. I appreciate the in-depth info on the various channels; I had found some of this info online, but this is quite helpful all the same. One benefit of using the Action channel is that Sims will fist-pump and cheer on the TV.

 

Last night I created a beta on the Action channel, and made some text edits and XML changes. It worked but the flirty moodlet was invisible for some reason, and I'm looking into it further. Oddly the XML files for the Romance and Action channels seem to differ greatly so I couldn't directly copy and paste the values from the previous version. But it seems to be the only real hurdle at this point, so I'll look into it further; I know ModtheSims has a lot of information on XML tuning and alteration, so it probably just requires a bit of research.

Thanks for the mod. The files in the download remain the same, although they are listed as updated. Comparison of files was done by bytes with a special file comparison program. Forgot to put new files? Sorry for my bad english.

There are both 0.6g (Romance) and 0.7a (Action) available now. 0.6g remains unchanged. It could be that the older 0.6b listing still exists, but I haven't seen it.

I'm going to implement a less confusing version identifying scheme in the future I think, such as version Action_0.7.1 or Romance_0.7.1 etc.

The major change is the implementation on the Action channel so that it won't conflict with other TV mods, although 0.6g includes clips that 0.6b lacked.

 

Petr54, your English seems just fine. I have 0.6g up, so I'm unsure where you are seeing 0.6b, although it is true that the 0.7a link is independent from "Download this file", and that the Romance version was not updated when the Action version was added.

 

It's possible this is a browser caching issue of some kind. But 0.6g has replaced 0.6b for the Romance channel.

I'm still working on figuring out how best to approach some of the XML editing needed on the Action channel, and how to alter Sim reactions from their typical thought bubbles. I may discontinue that Romance version at some point, but first I need to improve on the Action channel implementation. I've also noticed that the other TV mods allow for individual clip downloads; this is something I'm looking into too, otherwise it is just an ever-increasing file size that may become impractical. 

 

I've also become aware that some clips cause issues only when finishing playback and then transitioning to certain other clips; the consistent behavior I've noted points to problems changing between audio bitratessampling rates, so in the future the clips will all be re-worked to have the same type of audio and the same rates. This seems impractical considering they come from a variety of sources of varying quality, but I'll be looking into what is most practical and will try to make them all consistent. Currently, the videos with one audio sampling rate cause playback speed issues when transitioning to videos with another. There are only really two clips that had different audio due to their source, so it will not be much trouble to fix this.

That's probably better suited to someone who is into those types of clips; if you want to create some clips, I could show you how they are added, and they could be offered for download for those that are interested; that's the beauty of being able to support optional clips; ALL clips are optional.

 

It seems to work best with clips that are between 2 and a half and 3 and a half minutes. 

The VP6 codec used by the game is very aggressive and seems to over-compress content often, which kind of renders the advantages of HD pointless.

For this reason, I create most clips at 512*288 and attempt to keep the bitrate high enough to prevent quality loss.

 

I was thinking as the content expands it may make sense to recruit others in its creation; this way everyone can have what they want and can avoid what they don't. It would also encompass a greater variety of content that way. Currently, most clips have been created from either Google images or my extensive porn collection; with the exception of the Jasmine James laundromat scene, I haven't had to download any videos for clip creation.

 

The main hindrance to clip creation is the condensing down to 2-3 minutes; I've had to look for some creative ways to cut clips down. Some scenes are easy to edit that way, but others are not. But if others want to get in on the action, I certainly don't mind. I find the clips easiest to edit and work with when encoded with XVID, and once ready then re-encoded with the VP6 codec (I find that setting it to 2 pass mode and only running the first pass makes the compression less aggressive). From there the audio and video are converted to a format the game can use, and the clip is added to the playlist. 

If you're interested, feel free to submit some clips of the 2-3 minute variety.

Doing that would make the available content expand greatly. I just wasn't sure that this was the best time with the latest patches messing up several mods,

and the site here exhibiting issues with download links at times. But it was something I've been considering a while.

Thank you for the reply.  I did think it was a long shot as you're tastes are in the other direction.  I do have a rather large porn collection, but they are all dvds and I would not really know how to get 2 -3 minute clips from them.  I think the idea of recruiting others to do a variety of clips for your mod is a great idea.  I'm willing, but would need step by step instructions on how to do it.

Sure, no problem. I'll create a thread about it soon, which will cover the tools needed and steps to be taken. It's not that tough, but there's a bit of a learning curve and the need to hunt down the VP6 codec which I'm unsure where to locate; when I read the tutorial thread for creating custom channels, I found I already had it installed. I've done a lot of video work over the years so it's not terribly surprising, but I need to look into this further so that others will be able to download it because I'm sure not everyone has it already installed.

I've noticed a gameplay oddity when having STN installed. Whenever I am digging for treasure or exploring the caves that lead to the Forgotten Grotto or Sylvan Glade, the treasure map icon that appears on dialog boxes and as the action icon on the bottom left-hand corner of the screen changes to a woohoo icon.

This mod needs to be updated whereas it induces sims to masturbate. As it stands now, sims don't do that & there's no way to get them to do it
