CTD's outside

Yea, found this problem hundredfold on the internet, yet no one really solved it.

Everything works fine as long as it is on an interior location - once I try to step outside or I load an outside game and move around a little it crashes. Checking my logs didn't help me tracking the issue because the logs say different things every time. What's weird about this is that all of my saves used to work until today, and now I can't even play a new game. (Using Live another life, once I spawn in an outside area or leave an interior start location it crashes as well). I did not change any mods, I did not change any settings, I did not touch the game at all. And now, overnight, it just refuses to work. 

I thought about some possibilites like VRAM running out or corrupt game data, but I'm not really an expert so I just look what you guys say. Maybe I'm overseeing something.

If you didn't change anything it might be:

> Windows 10 update => refresh administrator rights (maybe even need to reinstall DirectX)

> Virus scanner update => deactivate during game or set exceptions for all skyrim related folders

> Steam updates your installations during the game => deactivate in steam downloads during a running game

> Your SDD/HDD is nearly full, no space to write temp files

> You have more than 250 savegames, skyrim needs a while to preload them all, you can press numberkeyblock "*" to see the fps counter. As soon as it show a stable 60fps again you can load a save (means skyrim is done with what ever it's doing there).

Alternative: backup or delete some of your saves

> Graphic card driver got updated and changed your graphic card settings => now conflicts with your ENB/Boost settings

> too many autostart/background programs => use CCleaner to reduce some of the less/not needed

> too many broken windows registry entries => use CCleaner to clean those up

Okay so:
No updates whatsoever.

Virus scanner has skyrim whitelisted.

Steam downloads during a running game are disabled, I ran steam file validation just for fun now to see if that does something.

Enough driver space, more than 100gb.

I have 8 savegames, 2 of them are most recent and none of them have been played on longer than 10 hours each. All of them are actually clean savefiles, though I use clean to say they have been created and then never changed mod wise, I had freshly installed Skyrim a few weeks ago and played only every now and then.

No graphic card driver updates have been made until right now - I updated them, deactivated my ENB, eventually completely removed all ENB related stuff, still the same issue.

Already took care of the programs and windows registries due to some other problem and watching it every now and then. 

 

But I thank you very much for your tips. Anything else you might think of right now? I'm so clueless.

This leads me to the usual questions:

Do you use a SKSE.ini, ENBoost, Crash fixes?

With the right settings?

Crashing only after LAL sounds to me like a memory issue or wrong settings in one of the configuration files:

This alone can send your setup into a CTD hell if patches are missing or wrong place in LO.

I would say it makes your game in-stable as soon as it is installed.

Seems to be deactivated => if you use NMM make sure it's de-installed and not only deactivated.

 

dD - Realistic Ragdoll Force - Realistic.esp=1

not needed if XPMSE is installed (already included)

 

Make sure XPMSE, Jcontainers, PapyrusUTIL 3.3 didn't get overwritten

 

MoreNastyCritters.esp=1

has a patch for

Skyrim Immersive Creatures.esp=1

 

MNC + SIC combo look like this in my LO:

Check for more patches for SIC on nexus or on the SIC homepage.

Best to deactivate "water spawns" (patch for it on nexus) and "ore golem" spawns (no patch around, creates papyruslog errors, causes CTD on my setups)

BS is hard on your setup, also check if you have all needed patches.

 

Your setup has a lot of "clutter mods"* from Nexus, if all fails you will have to remove one by one to see if they might cause game instability.

(*mods that are old and try to fix/modify/add stuff that is not really needed or cause instability)

I think this can make issues too if combined:

DFB - Random Encounters.esp=1

Immersive Encounters.esp=1

Skyrim Immersive Creatures.esp=1

Deadly Wenches

 

SIC alone spams already your active scripts for spawns.

 

Also if you have many mods that change the same lvl lists you want a bashed patch,

or smash patch or TESVmerged patch

to solve conflicts

If you leave LAL or cities or travel around

 

Travelers of skyrim

Immersive wenches (if traveling IWs are active)

Populated Lands Roads...

 

will all spawn NPC in short succession

=> lag/freeze will be the result (worse case CTD or save you can't load anymore)

choose only one combo

 

Travelers + Immersive Wenches

Populated series + Immersive Wenches

 

Just imagine that the spawn of this added NPCs will cause strain on your system,

and then you have in addition SIC, random encounters, even more random encounters

 

sadly those mods don't wait with spawning, they will try it all at the same time

a bashed patch might help with that, but can't prevent spikes in NPC/creature spawning

In SIC MCM reduce the % for SIC to vanilla

Means SIC will leave more spawn points to vanilla, or in your case for other mods that want to spawn stuff

 

Also be aware that SIC also spawns NPCs on the road, in addition to all your other spawn mods

I have one more:

If you have so many NPC on the roads while also so many hostile spawn mods:

There will be fights, a lot, and depending on your SLdefeat settings, there will be a lot of NPC-NPC or NPC-creature defeat rapes.

This can cause CTD because SLdefeat's NPC-NPC actions are pretty unstable.

Yea, got all of those, I actually used some of the steps of your blog post last month to work on my Skyrim when I installed it from scrap.

That was one of the things I have thought of as well, since I have almost 15k animations and use XXL FNIS, though that's not new either, using so many animations since almost two weeks when all of my saves have been created with the only changes being removing some animations by reinstalling BIllies animations pack and deleting the anim objects. That was, I think, four days ago. Does that count as a change? If yes, there you go.

Yea I know what you mean. The load order was the same since 2 weeks, I didn't delete or disable any mods. Though of course I updated some of the mods in the meantime like Billies and NCK30 Animations, the only non animation mod that was updated was Sexy Bandit Captives. All those updates were made around four or five days ago.

Both saves I played on have around 10 hours playtime and never crashed once in their short existence.

Yes it's deactivated, strange I didn't completely delete it, it was a remnant of one of my older gameplays that used to crash very frequent. Thanks for showing me that.

Maybe we found something with that, because I had disabled the random encounters from DFB in it's MCM from the beginning. I remember enabling some of the encounters, namely vampires and Alikr warriors, and that was only two days ago. Maybe that started script spamming. I will disable those mods and look if a new save works, letting you know later in an edited post. Same for Ordinator, Populated series and TK Dodge, will try the suggested steps as well.

SL Defeat's features are all disabled except the player as aggressor settings. But thanks, now I have another reason to never enable NPC-NPC interactions.

I have also purged all the BSA's and ESP's from deactivated and deleted mods. I found some from PAHE and some other rather script heavy mods that aren't supposed to be in my load order since months. Thanks for showing me that. When I'm finished with everything I will cut the current saves out of the save folder and completely start anew, configuring everything in the lal cell and try going outside then. I don't miss the saves so it's no tragic loss.

It's the number of character anaimations which cause the problems. I doubt it is an issue here as too many animations usually causes crashes on game load.

Updates of animation packs generally means more animations. Check what the changes to SBC were.

First thing that leaps out is that the load order looks too alphabetical. It could do with a dose of LOOT.

 

Some other things which leap out but are probably not the direct cuase of your problems.

Wintermyst - Enchantments of Skyrim.esp=1

Summermyst - Enchantments of Skyrim.esp=1

Summermyst is the successor to Wintermyst so you don't need Wintermyst.

 

dD - Realistic Ragdoll Force - Realistic.esp=1

You don't need this as XPMSE handles ragdolling.

 

BesEss.esp=1

This mod is old, unfinished and deader than the deadest thing on Dead Street in Deadtown.

You should think about replacing these with something more resource friendly or at least using the unofficial patch for them (different than the USLEEP)

Maybe you have to re-register all animations in SL.

Especially if you load the saved basic setting of SLF.

My game becomes unstable after adding/removing SLAL packs and not rebuild SLF animation registration.

I think the old animations are still saved in the SLF or SLAL jason files?

That's true and I want to add that I see game instability if I go close to the FNISxxl limit.

Means I don't crash right away, but over 90% FNIS CTDchance, I get already irregular CTD.

 

My FNIS output. That's the max I go to be sure animation count is not an issue ingame:

 

10148 animations for 51 mods successfully included (character).
ChAnims: 10148  CTD:89,9%  pOpt:20,0%  max: 11287  LC: 23521 (max. 26162)

 

Also it's good to leave a buffer, because some mods have animation registration errors and won't be calculated correctly by FNIS.

They are deactivated. I don't know why they are still listed in the Load Order. It was actually you who suggested getting rid of them to me, a few months ago. I found and deleted them in the data folder now.

Never heard of this but I would guess it has something to do with the Bruma mod which you don't appear to have installed.

Both deactivated, will delete them completely though, I did not know that deactivated mods are still listed.

This mod is old, unfinished and deader than the deadest thing on Dead Street in Deadtown.

That one is actually deleted, yet it's ESP was still in my Data Folder. Thanks for pointing that out.

You have Apachii hair installed but not KS, yet you have the KS esp activated and the Apachii esp deactivated.

Fuck me. Now I know why most of the Captives don't have hair or bugged hair. Took care of that as well.

It's there, but I installed the wrong patch for SBC. That's what he meant.

No I took care of that, but I deleted my old saves regardless.

Yes, it was. I had them deactivated though and it's strange that it is still counted as active. I deleted it completely now and did so with all the other mods that I had deactivated to prevent shit like this.

Means I don't crash right away, but over 90% FNIS CTDchance, I get already irregular CTD.

I will also try deleting most animation mods that I don't really use enough to justify them pushing my animation counts up. Checking if a new game now works.

What mod manager do you use to get so many left overs.

Do you combine manual install with a Mod Manager?

I can't even simulate that with NMM (unless I would only deactivate mods and not deinstall them)
