Heppai Posted September 10, 2019 Posted September 10, 2019 I wanted to get S4 but i wanted your opinions first. Do I buy it through EA (I'm weary of anything with EA's name on it)? Is it worth modding and is there a lot of modding to do to get it up to LL standards? Or is it all pretty straightforward? Buy it, mod it, have fun with it?
Lelgato Posted September 10, 2019 Posted September 10, 2019 tbh not worth it. but then again its up to you if you like spending $10-40 on extra hairs, tacky clothes, extra map go ahead. just saying since i bought it and all the DLC I do not feel like it was worth the money at all
Guest Posted September 10, 2019 Posted September 10, 2019 Base game, with mods, probably yes. All DLCs? Probably not.
Guest Posted September 10, 2019 Posted September 10, 2019 Yeah, the DLC practice for the sims has always been a bit horrendous. It's not worth paying for, but don't let that stop you. Mods and modding is general straightforward, just grab the nude packs and "extras" of your choosing.
Heppai Posted September 10, 2019 Author Posted September 10, 2019 Glad you guys mentioned that then, I was going to get the "Deluxe bundle" and then the site wanted to sell you an extra DLC on top.
FauxFurry Posted September 10, 2019 Posted September 10, 2019 The Deluxe Bundle would only be advisable during one of their sales events where you could get it for half off. If you want to wait, then it would be more than worth it.

There are too many high quality game releases from this year and from yester year that are more worth the 20-40 USD than DLC for The Sims 4.

I wouldn't pay full price for any of them and I wouldn't even pay half price for most of them either. Get Together and Spa Day were 2 exceptions for me as I got them on sale later on. Hated Seasons in TS2 as my sims like outdoor gardening and swimming year round. Get to Work is lacking and buggy, and you can't even be the Owner/Chef in your own business. Don't like playing with Occults but the new Realm of Magic might be fun, still doubt I'd pay full price though. EA still hasn't added: Diving Boards, Pool Slides, Spiral Stair Cases, and many other things that ppl loved in TS2/TS3. Most EP's have small towns, and some don't have any, Get Together has a nice size new town and adds Clubs plus DJ's. Only reason I still play around with TS4 is the Sex Mods like Wicked Whims. Basemental Drugs, and MCCC, plus a few others. They are always adding new features for game play, unlike EA which has become the typical 'Corporate Greed Machine' of today. Quantity rather than Quality is their new strategy wit h TS4 and it's a step backwards from previous releases IMO. Mods are what keeps TS4 going IMO, unless your just a sims nut that has to have all the EP's and packs even if they're trash. Even TS2 & 3 had faults/bugs but the modders came to the rescue again. All my games are heavily modded.

That really is a shame since this game has so much unmet potential at this point I don't even know if I would even consider buying the sims 5 if it is ever announced by ea due to their inherent greed as a company. Honestly I just hope that one day the sims gets a legitimate competitor that one ups them so hard that is forces ea to stop trying to milk as much money as they can from the sims and actually make a really strong sims that can compete.
Neodarkside Posted September 13, 2019 Posted September 13, 2019 Me personally, yes. Some expansions and DLC are not the best, some are pretty fun and add neat things to the game. I've always been a Sim collector. Sims 1 and 2 I owned all the expansions and bought them day of release, I skipped Sims 3 entirely and also now own all DLC for Sims 4. I probably would have quit playing however if it wasn't for Wicked Whims. Things get stale and it spices things up. I also do not play the game like normal, I am not a legacy player, but more like a Days of Our Lives type. Aging is disabled for current family only, had maybe 1 generation age up since I began many years ago, and I bounce around between different families. Various mods add extra spice to the game, Wicked Whims, Nisa's wicked perversions, and Basemental drugs. DLC I recommend. City Living, Seasons, and Vampires. DLC I DO NOT recommend. Parenthood and Laundry Day. Just going to give a small blurb about each of the DLC. --Expansions Get to work - Decent, adds 3 jobs your sims leave your house and actually work. Original world had a problem where the police station became unplayable. Sims would freeze at the station and would take forever to finally do a single action. Current play thru, works fine, but now the hospital has a few minor issues. Some tasks become impossible to complete due to odd bugs. Get Together - Adds clubs, can be fun, Wicked Whims spices it up with swinging clubs. Has some nice objects like arcade machine and foosball City Living - Adds a new playable world with Apartments, sadly I don't think there is enough and unable to really alter them. Adds weekly events at the various districts. I do recommend this one. Cats and Dogs - Adds a new playable world, adds pets. Its ok. Seasons - Adds weather. I do recommend it if you care about weather. I miss the winter activities from Sims 1 Get Famous - So-so, adds a new playable world. Adds Celebrities. Island living - Adds a new playable world, I sorta like this one, I love the areas and the ocean views. Also adds new occult sim, Mermaids --Game Packs Outdoor retreat - Adds a vacation area to the world, its ok. Lets Sims go on vacations, not much to do there sadly, jungle adventure is far better Spa day - Adds spa stuff, its also ok. I always liked the spa things, so massage tables and what not. Dine out - Adds restaurants to eat out at, sorta recommended but unsure if its mod conflicts or basegame EA retardation but every now and then I have issues with them, like a server drops a tray and then you never get your food served. Vampires - Adds a new world and new occult sim, vampires. I recommend this one. Parenthood - If I could burn this one from existence I would. Hated it. Adds childhood phases which are just plain dumb, makes Teens and children a pain in the ass to play. My favorite is going to a restaurant and some family shows up and suddenly the place is trashed when every Child decides they want to use the interaction "Make a mess", and like modern day parents they stand there dumb as dirt and do NOTHING to stop it. I used to play a few orphaned Teen families, and every time they'd get a childhood phase I'd console command and remove it, becomes tedious and not fun at all. Jungle Adventure - Better vacation than Outdoor Retreat. Adds a new vacation area that lets you explore a jungle. Kinda cheating as you can usually walk away with a lot of money in game there. Strangerville - Adds a new playable world and mini adventure, I rather enjoyed this one, its a mini adventure that uses a sims Aspiration to complete a Alien plant takeover story. Once its complete you can reset it and do it again with other sims. Realm of Magic - Just bought it, haven't done anything with it yet, just know it adds a new playable world and new occult sim, mages. --Stuff packs All of them.... eh, extra fluff to the game, often new hairstyles, new furniture and various stuff. Only one I'd skip is Laundry day. Adds the option to have sims do Laundry, which would be fine if the damn Washer and Dryer didn't break every 2-3 wash cycles. I swear I spend more time repairing them than using them. Would have been fine if they added a low, medium and high quality washer and dryer. Low has the average 67% break down option, but is cheap to buy, medium costs more and doesn't break down as often, and high quality costs a fortune but rarely breaks. My suggestion, like someone said above. Wait for Black Friday or an Anniversary sale, can often get them dirt cheap. Otherwise, like I said. I've enjoyed it.
Neodarkside Posted September 13, 2019 Posted September 13, 2019 Also where the hell are my Robots, Zombies, and Werewolves sims!? Hoping they add them at some point.

Well it's not just the sims franchise that's slaking as many other games have also gone downhill as of late. Gaming just 'ain't what it used to be' anymore. EA will milk TS4 for at least another 2 years and I doubt I'd buy sims 5 anyway unless they really 'up their game' Only chance for any decent sims competition might be from a small startup company. But the odds are not very good I'm afraid.

Classic EA make something good then ruin it with greed the last thing I got from them was the new battlefront 2 and I have to say it was the best $5 I have ever spent ?
Ascend the Apprenticeship Posted September 13, 2019 Posted September 13, 2019 @NeodarksideAlright thanks for the info I might pick up a few then if they do go on sale!

Maybe that's just typical for all of them but I don't really keep track of them anyway. They just copied most of the existing animations for spells like fire, freeze, etc., and only made 1 or 2 new ones. The casting animation is new but it's the same one being used for everything. Too bad they didn't make a few different ones for good and evil, or even some shorter animations. Can't live in the Magic Town either, which has some ppl disappointed anyway. As usual for Maxis, things could have been so much better if...

Well I don't really mind that the occults are all separate game packs because picky people, like me, only want certain ones, or none at all. Main reason I never bought the Business EP... I don't want aliens invading my hoods.
