Sir.Yiffington.621 Posted August 13, 2019 Posted August 13, 2019 So, my problem is really simple: I downloaded the Sims 3 via Origin. Then i downloaded some mods from this page. As i was trying to install them, i realised that there was no Mods folder in my game files. My question is: What now? Can i move the mods somewhere else? Or can i just create a mods folder? I'm thankful for every answer, i'm still new to mods and stuff!
JoshQ Posted August 14, 2019 Posted August 14, 2019 Files with ‘.sims3package’ extension install automatically using the game's launcher when double clicked, to install ‘.package’ files follow this guide.

If you can't figure this out by yourself you should not even think about using mods with TS3. TS3 is a fickle game that will throw bluescreens and errors if you don't know what you're doing. It's not for you if you're too scared to even create a "Mods" folder. Yes, I am serious. You will have nothing but trouble playing TS3 with mods if this is already too difficult for you to handle. Sorry.
JoshQ Posted August 15, 2019 Posted August 15, 2019 The problem is all the information available is 5-7 years old and people tend to distrust it, but they don't know EA "abandoned" Sims 3 around that timeline effectively freezing it (and that's a very good thing!). So for any newcomer the best way to learn about how to mantain this game is going to https://www.nraas.net/ there you will find the most important set of mods to avoid problems, guides to diagnostic/fix issues and, more important, an active community with helpful people who know this mess of a game back and fort (obviously don't go to ask "why my sim don't want to have sex?"). You can also go to modthesims (and its wiki), tumblr, carl´s guide, crinrict's blog and even the official forums, but none gets close to nrass for help.

Nonsequitur Posted September 22, 2019 Posted September 22, 2019 In order to use ANY Mod in The Sims 3 – you need a “Mods” folder in the main “The Sims 3” folder. It is easy to create one. Make a new folder in Documents\The Sims 3 folder. Name it “Mods” In that folder make 2 more folders – name them Packages and Overrides respectively. Copy the “Resource.cfg” file printed below and paste in a new Notepad document. Save this document to the new Mods folder as a text document, with the following name “Resource.cfg” What a mods folder looks like Mods (folder) Resorce.cfg (file) Packages (folder) Overrides (folder) I’ve set up one as a download for you. Or you can follow the directions above. Just place the ENTIRE Mods folder into The Sims 3 folder. That’s it! You can now put your Mods into the Mods\Packages folder. Only if a Mod you download states it is a core mod and requires being placed in the Overrides folder will you place any package in the Overrides folder. Most package files don’t require a higher scan rate. The “Resource. Cfg” file contains the breakdown on what folder in the Mods main folder has what priority for scanning. In the Resource.cfg file I offer – the overall scan rate is 601. This is 100 points more than any other folder so will scan more often. The original overall scan rate was 1000 – it was scanning nearly constantly and making the game more jittery – so I lowered it. If you want to change it back to its original values change the “601” to “1000”. You can, of course, change it back anytime you want before starting The Sims 3. (Resource.cfg file) Priority 601 DirectoryFiles Files/... autoupdate That line of code is at the top This is the entire Resource.cfg file Priority 601 DirectoryFiles Files/... autoupdate Priority 600 PackedFile Overrides/*.package PackedFile Overrides/*/*.package PackedFile Overrides/*/*/*.package PackedFile Overrides/*/*/*/*.package PackedFile Overrides/*/*/*/*/*.package Priority 500 PackedFile Packages/*.package PackedFile Packages/*/*.package PackedFile Packages/*/*/*.package PackedFile Packages/*/*/*/*.package PackedFile Packages/*/*/*/*/*.package Priority 500 PackedFile DCCache/*.dbc ------------------------------------------ If you want a through explanation of how to set up a mods folder or have a MAC computer – you can find a good tutorial here: https://www.carls-sims-4-guide.com/forum/index.php?topic=9187.0
