Combining Meshes?

The good news is that I figured out how to free up a slot for other stuff like capes, jewelry, backpacks to show on the body. The bad is that I don't know how to combine meshes in Nifskope. I copied the branch of the gauntlets scene and pasted it into with cuirass. But I'm not sure how to connect them so that both are visible in game. What I'm trying to do is make the gauntlets part of the cuirass to free up the hand slot. Can anyone help me with this?

Make sure auto-sanitize before save is checked under 'File'.

 

That should make things work in-game. See if that fixes it before trying other things.

Yeah, that's checked. It is by default I think. It's something else I need to do. I actually think I can free up two slots, but it would take a LOT of work. :classic_smile:

You do net get free slots if you combining meshes !!!!

I see it is a body/clothes/armor nif with bones.

 

So if you want to copy  things from one nif to another you must have all the bones in the nif ( You get a warning and can not paste)

 

You copy Branch the part you want

 

 And you paste Branch in the Scene Root

If you have all need ed bones in the nif you don't get a warning and you have the new part in the nif.

 

Now you save. Yes in the NifSkope you can set Auto sanitize before save so you must not do it manually.

 

You are done.

 

But now you must change the esp.

 In your example the cuirass was set to Upperbody slot.

And the gauntlets  was Hand slot.

You new combining armor must be set to Upperbody and Hand slot .   So you have no free slot. If you do not set the hand slot the body-hands will still be displayed when you wear the new armor and can clip though the gauntlets.

If you combining a 4 part armor  it must be set Upper, lower, hand and foot slot.

 

If you want capes, jewelry, backpacks  you add it to the armor clothes body you want.

 

Nipple, navel piercings you add the nude body and the those clothes where  nipple and navel is visible.

Same with painted nails. With gauntlets  or gloves not visible  so you add it to the body hands.

That's how I do it. Because if I get nude I do not want to equip piercing and paint my nails, so they are part of my nude body meshes and add the armors and clothes where they are visible.

 

Amulets, collars, necklaces are equippable in my game and set to amulet or tail slot (You you have a race without tail you alsways have the free tail slot )

 

A cape you can add to the armor.

 

Backpacks: You can use amulet ot tail slot if you want it equippable.  If you do not want to lose your Amulets, collars, necklaces  you can add it to the backpack mesh.

Or you make the backpack part of your armor/clothes and combining a upperbody armor(clothes with the backpack.

 

You can not use a hand slot for a Backpack.

If you set a Backpack to hand slot and equip it your body-hands will not be displayed.  You have a Player with upperbody  and backpack but no hands.

And if you wear a armor that use the hand slot ( Upper and hand in on mesh  or a full body armor) the armor will be unequipped when you equip the backpack.

You can do it "very" complicated.

 

You create a upperbody armor with added gauntlets and set it only to Upperbody slot.

You equip it and you still have your hands and parts of them are maybe visible through the gauntlets .

Now you set the Backpack to Hand slot and equip it, now you Player is perfect. Body-Hands and Upperbody not displayed , you see the Armor and the backpack.

But these armor you can not weare without the backpack  ( if the gauntlets are slim and you see parts of the body-hands )

and the Backpack you can only wear with that armor or you don't have hands, because it will unequip any other Item with hand slot.

First, I want to thank you for the info- that's exactly what I needed to know. However, you can free up a slot by combining the meshes. It is done by this mod author for one and I intend to copy it for my own stuff. Nifskope won't open his/her upperbody meshes, so I'm not sure how the meshes were made. I have found that the hands and the lower body can both be used to show new equipment. Everything else doesn't show. But, I will need to test to make sure. I understand what you are saying, I just think there is a way around it. :classic_wink:

If the armor boots and gauntlets  are big enough that you do not see the body-hand and -foot meshes it will work to get free slots.

 

But you can use the new things (backpacks, capes, jewelry) you add to the hand/foot slots only with the new combined clothes/armor , not with vanilla or other armor-clothes Mods.

And also when you are nude and you equip a Backback with hand slot you have no hands.

So only the combination of new combined armor with new addons (backpacks, capes, jewelry) will work.

If this works, I intend to redo all the vanilla meshes with different body types so that people can have 1 or 2 more slots. But I'm still stumbling around in Nifskope. :unamused:

But if you combining  a upper and hand item you lose one item to enchant!

And you must change all armors  in the esp, the protection.   Example: You have cuirass with armor 8 and  gauntlets  with 3.  Now your new cuirass need armor 11.

 

And all the things can not be used with armor clothes from other Mods.

 

Not many people will like it.

It will not work with other armor clothes replacer.( if people wand DMRA , A cup, Manga, ... )

Other Mods that use vanilla armor mesh but with new enchant will not work ( wrong slots )

1 or 2 item less you can enchant.

NifSkople you need all bones in the target Nif !!!

 

You have a upper body with only the used bones ( the white lines )

You have a hand nif  and it has all the finger bones, but not all uppper body bones.

You can copy the bones with Copy Branch from one nif into the Scene Root of the other nif.  .... Can be a lot of work.

Be cause you need all the NiNode Bip01 .....  that are in BOTH of you meshes  !

In your example you need all  finger, hand  and upper body bone in one mesh

Or you use a Nif with all the bones and delete all parts in that nif and copy your both meshes in that nif

allbones.nif

That the nif from the screenshot above. You can delete the body parts so you have only the bones.

The Author you posted.

Only 2 of his mods have files

 I downloaded the 2 files. Armored Princess and Taarna Tarakian Armor.

All meshes are like vanilla and any other Mods. Not even a full armor mesh.

And I can open the upperbody meshes. ( But I use a old NifSkope version )

 

All armors are in 4 pieces. Upper. lower, hand and foot. So are the slots. All 4 body slots used, no free slots.

 

Example: Taarna Tarakian Armor.

But the gauntlets  are set to hand slot . And the cuirass is set to upperbody slot . So you have no free slots for new things

 

Totally nothing new in the two Mods. Nothing that make free slots.

Then this mod (Full Metal Bikini- not the light armor version) in particular. I downloaded it not knowing they had made other versions later. I tried to open the upperbody meshes and couldn't. The "light" version only uses the hand slot- freeing up the upperbody. I would ask them, but no surprise that they were banned.

OK... but that are only gauntlets  and  they use the hand slot.

Because there is no body in the mesh.

When you equip it  your body replacer hands will be replaced by the gauntlets .

And you see your nude upper body replacer mesh.

 

If you equip a item with Upperbody slot (maybe a backpack or cape ) your nude upper body replace will not be displayed.

 

 

Example:

You equip the gauntlets  that are set to hand slot. Your body replacer hands are removed,  and you see

Now you think you have a free  slot, the upper body slot.

So you set you backpack the upperbody slot.

Now you equip  the gauntlets  and the backpack.

The gauntlets  will remove the body replacer hands and the backpack will remove the upperbody replacer, and you see

Okay, you convinced me. I would have expected the OBSE team to "find" more slots, but I guess it wasn't possible. Is there a way to exploit the tail slot for more apparel? I saw one author did it for Morroblivion, but the script seemed very unstable. Hack upon hack upon hack is what I read. You do realize the easiest way around this is adapting BodySlide for Oblivion? That would make all the meshes much more workable. I asked Ousnius and got no reply.

Why script?

You want it for the player.

Yes NPC do not equip item with tail slots, maybe to prevent that argonian and khajiit to lose the tail. They need a script to do it.

But the player can equip a item with tail slot. no script needed.

In many Mods you have item with tail and amulet slots. You have the same cape or collar with amulet and tail slot so you can use what you like. A race with tail use the amulet cape, and other races can use the tail cape and wear a necklace with amulet slot.

 

And umbrellas are good for touch slot.

But if you have armor clothes mods and use them only with the player you can add backpacks to the upperbody armor.

Capes to upper body armor/clothes.

Piercings to visible skin parts of armor and clothes.

Painted nails to hands

 

And piecings and nails to your nude player body.

 

My nude female player body meshes with added nipple piercing, dick ( futa player )  pussy lips, and nails.

So I add the same thing to my player armor clothes if it is visible.
