sora3 Posted January 13, 2013 Posted January 13, 2013 Steam doesn't delete things it doesn't download I'm pretty sure. Yes it does. If you delete Skyrim through Steam' date=' it kills the very folder "Skyrim". Every mod, tool or whatever you downloaded separately will be gone because it's in the same folder. Was quite surprised by that too. [/quote'] That's actually a damn lie. I've nuked my Skyrim to hell and back because of doing overhauls and modding some files for stability. And the mods are still there despite it nuked all the stock files. I'm definitely calling bullshit here.
gerra6 Posted January 13, 2013 Posted January 13, 2013 I've dumped tons of things into several of my steam game folders and never experienced what you're talking about. I'm not saying it won't happen to me, it just sounds very odd. But then again, if it did happen I'd probably just shrug, extract one of my backups, and forget about it the next day. See...paranoia isn't always bad. Hell, I'm running five simultaneous Oblivion installs right now out of my Steam folder (don't ask...mod testing gets stupid sometimes).

Having two Skyrim installs ATM, one for testing on a spare separate SSD for all the overhauls and the like, the other is on the game HDD for my own pure fun.
sen4mi Posted February 3, 2013 Posted February 3, 2013 I think some of this thread discussion should note that the original poster was telling us that Steam deleted "the entire folder structure" and "skyrim.esm" (We have not yet heard of any mod content being deleted here outside of mods installed through steam.) The pain, I imagine, is having to wait for steam to re-dowload everything. That can take a long time and can be incredibly frustrating if you were preparing to play, and were expecting to accomplish some kind of efficient minor adjustment. This kind of situation could have happened based on reading about how to solve some kind of problem from some random web page.
Contessa Posted February 7, 2013 Posted February 7, 2013 It would delete everything related to Skyrim if he accidently clicked delete local content, but yes his mods and various other things added to it should remain. Perhaps that's the button he was referring to? I don't know. Never heard of Steam wrecking anything unless you told it to. I've reinstalled New Vegas multiple times and anything *I* added to the Fallout New Vegas folder in steamapps remained after deletion. *Shrug* Hope everything works out for you though, TC.
