CTD at game start in racemenu

Recommended Posts

Wanted to start a new game after Skyrim SE and SKSE updates (1.5.80 and 2.0.16). Installed compatible versions from the conversion tracking list via MO2 obviously using FNIS (with no data conflicts or other errors) , cleaned up with SSEEdit and ran LOOT (having no errors or dirty plugins). Fine so far...

But when starting game with Alternate Start and coming to Racemenu game freezes after first clicking or first pressing any key and than CTD after a short while.

Can anyone help please? Thank You very much in advance!

As I recall, the last person who asked this was missing JContainers.

Yes, RaceMenu Special Edition v0-3-5 and JContainers SE-16495-4-1-9-1560655362 are installed...

Double check that ALL your mods are for SE. D

Double check on your version of MoreNastyCritters since there have been issues there lately.

While it all looks good run FNIS and paste the output here please.

Did you update papyrus utilities? also SOS's DLL may need an update

...and updated Papyrus Utilities (to 13048-3-7b-1560796241). And now when starting the game (original game without mods too) only black screen is shown with some small message left on top saying "Compiling shades...when loading takes too long disable shade caching in enblocal.ini". And then get a CTD. Same effect when shade caching is disabled.

yea Bethesda's usless updates suck, I don't update my games any more , unless there is a major fix or update to skse64/f4se, game not loading is a classic symptom of an incompatible/out of date mod, the only fix is finding the offending mod and either updating or deleting it, second option is rolling your game back to the version it was working and telling steam once again that they are penis heads for force updating you

How to identify that offending mod?

In Steam, click "Verify integrity of game files...". It helped me. Its rare, but sometimes Skyrims .ini files get broken.

How to identify that offending mod?  You disabled everything, then start enabling one by one. It boring, annoying, but thats how you do it.

Are you saying that if you disable ALL your mods and just run vanilla, unmodded Skyrim you get this problem too?

And you are not running a pirated version of the game? And you have taken Fotogen's good advice and verified the integrity of your game files?

If so, there is still something missing. The next step is to delete everything in Skyrim and reload it from Steam. Then make certain that you can play the vanilla game. Once that is done, follow Donttouchmethere's blog to rebuild your game with all the necessary tools:

No pirated version, game files verified too.

Had reinstalled the whole game in steam but nothing changed.

Found some folder in /Steam/Steamapps/Common/SkyrimSpecialEdition/Data called "ShaderCache" but its empty. May be there is some connection to my problem?

You should be able to play the vanilla game with just what Steam downloads to you. If you can not do so you need to contact Steam. They are evidently not giving you everything that you need.

Told my problem to Steam support and after a while i was told to download game files again. After deleting everything in Skyrim and reinstalling from Steam it worked! Dont know what they did but I was happy :-) From now on I will Steam keep offline all the time...

As next step I uninstalled all mods in MO and installed just basic things and customizing mods like CBBE with Live another Life. And big surprise: no CTD in Racemenu anymore!

So now I will add compatible mods step by step. Install one mod, run game looking for issues and if there are none grab next mode and so on...

Thank You guys again very, very much for help :-)

I'm happy to hear that you got them straightened out.

As for me, any gratitude that you think I may have earned I'll take in likes. That's the green thumbs up button found in the bottom right hand corner of every post. It is grayed out until you hover over it and click it. By the way, you can also like mods here on LoversLab (LL). Go to the post where you would download the mod. Go to the bottom right hand corner of that post. It is usually easier to see on a mod since their will be a counter there that indicates the number of times the mod has already been liked. Click there to show your appreciation of the mod author's hard work.
