Melkiah Posted June 17, 2019 Posted June 17, 2019 Howdy folks. So I'm trying to make a vanilla Nord into a Drow, but I'm running into that wonderful part of Skyrim where any dark color you try to make using Racemenu just turns out dark brown. I'm trying to make a dark gray skin tone, like how https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/75291 looks. I did some research and saw that some folk figured out that vanilla races have a problem in making the darker colors, and that custom races can fix this. I tried the succubus race here - https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/22903, and still got the dark brown. However, I used the Draenei that this fellow made - https://eriayai.tumblr.com/, and was able to get the exact skin color I wanted. So my first question to you more experienced modders, what can I do to make either the succubus race or one of the vanilla races accept the darker colors? My second question would be, would it be easier to modify https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/16819?tab=description to be compatible with the UUNP body and leyenda skin? Or would I be stuck using the textures and such that came with the mod?
27X Posted June 17, 2019 Posted June 17, 2019 should be able to pick the exact color using racemenu, and no you're not stuck using any particular texture set.
Distortedrealms Posted June 17, 2019 Posted June 17, 2019 Best results are experimenting with the blue/gray scales, that way when you make it darker it looks more akin to a darker black color and not a dark brown color.

I was only able to pick the color I wanted while making a Draenei. Thanks, I will try swapping out bodies and textures on the pre-made race and see if I can get some favorable results. 26 minutes ago, Distortedrealms said: Best results are experimenting with the blue/gray scales, that way when you make it darker it looks more akin to a darker black color and not a dark brown color. I'm also having the same trouble trying to make black mascara or lipstick. Full black, no transparency, it's just a murky brown. I'll try to get up a screenshot showing my color values. but my internet is potato powered lol.
Distortedrealms Posted June 17, 2019 Posted June 17, 2019 Well I know for dark black lipstick vanilla colors are not the way to go. I suggest Yev's makeup pack at her blog: https://yevvieart.wixsite.com/index I can get black as night tones with her makeup pack.
Sarathis Posted June 17, 2019 Posted June 17, 2019 The reason why the custom Drow race can get such dark colors is because of the color of the race's diffuse map. Spoiler It kinda cheats in that it's starting from a dark color to begin with. You're right, with ordinary races that work based off of the regular diffuse textures most people use in game Racemenu can only go so dark before it turns into a kind of chocolate brown. You can make your characters any color you like but getting that almost black tint is likely impossible. At least beyond my know-how with Racemenu. The closest I've gotten to creating a drow was with this character. Spoiler She's a customized Dunmer, obviously, with a bluish-grey skin tone. I took her as dark as I dared without losing the actual details of the diffuse map. Still, she manages to convey the feel of a drow, albeit one with a rather light skin. She looks different depending on the light source, obviously, but I'm happy with the results of my tinkering. Spoiler If you were alright with results like this you could probably achieve something very similar with Nord race in Racemenu.
Melkiah Posted June 17, 2019 Author Posted June 17, 2019 Oooooh that's what I'm talking about Distorted. Thanks a ton for that! Here is the desired color on a modded race. ScreenShot3.bmp And here are the same values on vanilla. ScreenShot4.bmp

I will definitely play around with it and see what I can do.
Sarathis Posted June 17, 2019 Posted June 17, 2019 Yeah, unfortunately, the closer you get to the darkest part of the light to dark slider, the more brownish the tone tends to get. Here's my color choice for my Dunmer with side by side comparisons in different lighting so you can see how she looks. Maybe you can try using it as a base to start from then play with the darkness a bit or take the tint slider closer to the dark blue and see how it turns out. Spoiler EDIT: Here's how a generic nord preset looks with my color scheme and some very quickly done edits to her facial, lips, and hair colors. Spoiler
