[resolved] AAF mods are causing delays

AAF has always been kind to me, but has now turned on me. Verious AAF-based mods are now taking their sweet time to initiate animations (AAF Prostitution being the most notable). I can basically make a cup of tea and jog a mile before anything happens (large exaggeration, just need to drive the point home). No AAF popups, promts, or even that little green logo in the top right corner. I spent an entire evening sorting out mods and basically reinstalling them all (I had nothing else to do, so why not) but still nothing. Considering reinstalling FO4 entirely, but I don't feel like losing my 2 year old saves, and my internet speed is comparable to a carrier pidgeon. I have searched far and wide, but have not found a solution. Manual initialization via the AAF menu works, but I like the immersion of it being automatic, and I'm incredibly lazy when it comes to such small basically non-issues like pressing a few keys. If anyone at all has an answer, I would really appreciate it.

Thanks for any comments and suggestions.

This was a fix given to me by another member. Changing the timer to 30 fixes the problem. Works every time.

The issue here is propably with gathering phase? The animation starts when actors get into position or when specific timer expires, 90 seconds by default. I have the same issue, NPC goes about to do their own thing instead of doing my character.

You don't need to reinstall the whole AAF setup if you're willing to overlook this issue of NPCs, as there's an easy workaround. When your in-game AAF menu is open (HOME key by default), press PAGE UP to skip the gathering phase and start the animation. You can also edit AAF settings by going into data/aaf/settings.ini and going all the way down to the walk timeout timer and changing 90 to something like 30.

The file is in Steam. Go to library, click game, click properties, click local, click browse, Click data, Click AAF, click settings..scroll down to near end of page. Will see 90 seconds as default wait..change to 30....bigtime fix..

That is the delay you are seeing.  Mods can avoid this by setting a "NoWalk" flag to "true" in the SceneSettings they pass to AAF when requesting an animation.  Setting the AAF walk timeout to a low value in your ini, as you suggest, has the same effect.

I am guessing that there is a reason that AAF has a 90 second default? I would think a number of "animations not working","characters just stand there", npc just walks away","AAF broken", complaints would never happen if sex occured in a reasonable time..

Loads of reasons why this happens. AI pathing could be knackered. The NPC may be stuck in place, like companions sometimes do with the whole "I cant move there" thing, or a physical collision-based barrier, like being on a second floor railed fire-escape that has no route to the ground, so they can never get to you. The timeout issue, the NoWalk flag, as Ego pointed out. Script load, game performance, maybe even conflicting packages on an NPC due to conflicts from mods (ie: two mods, at priority 100, trying to control an NPC, which causes the NPC to just become utterly broken). Loads of reasons.

But as you point out, it is easier for people to blame AAF as being broken or not working than it is to balance a mod-load and tweak the ini files to fit an expected outcome or to just understand that sometimes, the game cannot move the NPC where it needs to go (broken pathing, obstructions or AI conflicts, likely due to mods running in the game).

I was one of those AAF naysayers, because I was new to PC gaming, Nexus/Vortex made everything seem too easy, and old enough to know better that baby steps always works best. Too aggressive and too PC ignorant probably describes most of us gamers..

I tried this just now, and it works brilliantly. I set it to 10 seconds instead of 30, which seems to be all good. I had a few other errors, like it not registering my character as a valid actor, but this turned out to be errors with the load order (it loaded nearly everything before AAF, and the DLC's last for whatever reason). I have now resolved all the issues, it works brilliantly, and I'll remove this thread in a little to remove forum clutter, but I'll keep it in mind and try to help others with similar problems. Thank you very much.
