LAL has you do this after the character is made, so some quests and things will have started (and thus make things more tricky to upgrade mods or anything else that tries to change what's running - Unbound seems better about this but some mods that want to pick whether the PC is male or female won't "work" yet because you haven't made your character).
Grey Cloud Posted June 4, 2019 Posted June 4, 2019 I'm not quite sure if I understand you correctly but . . . Some MCMs retain the settings from game to game, assuming you 'export' in the previous game and 'import' in the new. Most MCMs don't provide this function so starting a new game involves the wonderful and uplifting experience of working your way through configuring your MCMs. If by 'resetting' your PC you mean using the same PC but as a level 1 character then that is simple. Assuming you use RaceMenu, save the character as a preset in the previous game then load the preset at character creation in the new game.

I was hoping for a way to save all the MCM settings for every single mod i have in my current run thru but with a new lvl 1 toon who hasnt done any quests or hasnt earned any skill points. I will just have to do the new game as per usual and then enjoy "the wonderful and uplifting experience" yet again. basically i get bored with whoever i am playing after a time and then think oh how about playing a pirate, or a naked elf in the woods, or a samurai, or musketeer, or a deadly assassin. i always seem to want to roleplay something else and it always involves starting over. i guess i could go old school and take a screenshot of every config page of each MCM mod i have.

If you are not using an alt-start mod, I'd suggest trying one. You could leave your last save in place and load it to see what your current settings are. There isn't a way to copy stuff from one to another as mod mods don't have a save-to-file feature even for internal use, (I think - that all settings are saved in game memory). Mods like SkyTweak are nice that they can save to a file and then load from that file later, in order to do just what you want. I do exactly what you're doing, and restart new concept characters constantly. While Unbound has fewer story based starts than LAL does I find it seems to have a more robust way of starting the game, and since it lets me skill the Main Quest first quest out of Helgen and reporting to Whiterun I am more free to do other things. There are options for starting the main quest either timed or leveled by having dragons show up to kill and absorbing a soul starts the quest with the Greybeard's call. On the other hand I also have more mods to configure via MCM than I'd like, and that is still necessary when I move or remove enough mods.

If you make a save in the cell where you start, after you've made your first character and setup all the MCMs, you can reload that save, open the console and type showracemenu to change your race and looks before hitting the Mara statue to start a new game.
