yatol Posted May 24, 2019 Posted May 24, 2019 npc replacers replace more than one npc and if you are missing npc replacer x, but still have npc replacer x nifs, those nifs won't work with skyrim.esm, since those npc mods have replace original headparts to waste more time than necessary, to conflict with anything that edit that npc, that was stupid, but since x did it, y have mimick him, and most npc replacers are like that, so it's a huge mess and you have to fix your mess if you want the game to load the head nif instead of generating a head (brown head it's that, no tintmask with femalehead.nif, and it's on purpose, it's faster to load head nif, if game can't load one, you fix the problem, whatever it is)

kapibar Posted May 25, 2019 Author Posted May 25, 2019 FYI the problem didn't disappear. It just migrated to other NPCs and to a much lesser scale. Now the tint difference is less eye gouging, and only females seem to have this problem. Oh, and one more thing. Every single female NPC from mods has this issue.
kapibar Posted May 29, 2019 Author Posted May 29, 2019 Update - after removing the mod that was generating the conflict I noticed that the Inhabitants of Skyrim also causes the brown face bug (although a much lesser extent), so I got rid of it. The only problem left was that every NPC added by a mod had mismatching face color. I changed the weight and noticed that some stripes appear on NPCs forehead. This in turn led me to a conclusion - the textures are FUBARed. So I reinstalled every mod that added NPCs and now I'm in the clear - even if some characters are bugged I don't see it anymore, so the problem is now nonexistent. Thank you for your help.

I know that i'm necroing an old thread but i recently had the same problem, so i want people to know what caused the problem for me and how i fixed it. So i had the black/brown face bug like many before me. Turns out, follower mods can also change skin tint and textures due to their settings and scripts. The mod i was using was ultimate follower overhaul. Checked with tesedit what was causing conflicts with my replacer mod, and lo and behold, for some reason a follower mod, ufo was changing skintones and textures and hairstyles. so what i did was, i set its load order to before all of my replacers and it worked. now everything is just fine. So why would i post it in this thread? because suggestions from this thread helped me a lot.
