TentacleBandit Posted April 3, 2019 Posted April 3, 2019 I haven't played Skyrim in ages but had a real urge to recently and reinstalled it especially since I never played the DLC I owned for it. However this time I wanted to add and explore all the adult content the games community had to offer. I knew there was a lot and a lot to catch up on - but damn I'm really impressed how active the community still is and how supportive it is when I have a question. However as I've been downloading mods and exploring I've noticed in a few places both here and off site that reposts of old sex or related mods no longer found or have vanished since they were originally posted. So it made me curious how much content that I might really want or miss having (can I miss what I didn't know existed?) has since vanished over the years and if there is any easy way to at least find record of them? Or places they've been backed up? I suppose simply put has a lot of skyrim sex mods or content gone missing over the years? I think its really cool that the mod community is so alive and so supportive though so I'm hoping I'll be able to find any great mods not easily found anymore. Also is there any type of discord for skyrim sex mods I could join? PM if needed.
Seijin8 Posted April 3, 2019 Posted April 3, 2019 In most cases (not all) the "vanished" mods were updated with a new name or replaced by another mod with better overall functionality and a lot of overlap. There aren't (to my knowledge) any "lost functions" out there that haven't been replaced.
FauxFurry Posted April 3, 2019 Posted April 3, 2019 Some of the lost mods end up on other sites like Rare Skyrim mods or other file sharing sites such as Mega Upload or 4Shared and that is usually if the original host site went down for keeps or the user was banned from the host site.

(nobody want to make one?) etc etc

That would be insane to try to create. The OP is asking about specific mods that went missing.

I download everything. And CWO might've been buggy, but Immersive Information Overhaul and Dragon Combat Overhaul have never left my load order and nothing comes close to Fire & Ice Overhaul for mage battles. Apollodown made some fuckin awesome mods.
yatol Posted April 3, 2019 Posted April 3, 2019 don't know immersive information fire & ice it's just replacing some spells animation (those ice shard with the flag for them to stay, that get npc stuck...) dco have some new dragon attacks? don't remember, whatever i use is a mix (only dragonborn damage matter, that have 80% armor et 70% spell resistance, you can't fight that just when you exist whiterun) and cwo... don't know the version that created the drama that got the mod taken down got rid of that in 2015 since the spy crap made some mess before i even start the civil war didn't had any trouble to finish the civil war without cwo and if i want more soldiers, i don't mimick bethesda, leveledlist that pick head that pick template become leveledlist that pick template that pick head (low level soldier template can pick high level bandit head, it's much better like that, and you need less heads)
TentacleBandit Posted April 5, 2019 Author Posted April 5, 2019 Sooo...basically the short answer is smaller mods have vanished or been updated into other mods. Some mods are gone but if your looking for it chances are if you request you can find it. Overall I'm just happy I'm not coming into the game too late and gonna miss anything!
Gardevoir Posted April 10, 2019 Posted April 10, 2019 A lot of the chinese and korean mods get lost or unobtainable real easily. Took me a good while to find say- Cangloong city or snowdragon temple. Lost media is really fascinating and mods should not be this "taboo" type form of art that can just be swept under the rug. I am all about the preservation of art no matter its form, yet some obvious sites just refuse to archive their users hard work and will remove it without a second thought sadly.
Lostdreamer Posted April 11, 2019 Posted April 11, 2019 I think the answer to that is 'Yes and no'. Yes, a lot of mods clearly have been lost. Maybe there was some bad blood somewhere and the author pulled the mod before stepping back for the sake of their sanity. Maybe the mod author moved on with their life, and pulled the mod simply because they were unable to devote the time to properly supporting it. Maybe something happened to the website it was hosted on. Maybe whatever. A LOT of people have written a LOT of mods for skyrim over the years. There are many reasons why a mod might become unavailable, so inevitably many mods have vanished or become hard to find. However , a significant portion of the ones that have been lost nobody really misses. They were probably smaller mods that didn't do anything dramatic, or maybe they were just a little rough around the edges and tricky to make work right. For whatever reason they never built up much momentum in the first place and then fell through the cracks. I can believe that happens much more often with mods that arn't english native. As previously mentioned, the popular mods will often have been rescued by new authors or uploaded to dodgy corners of the internet when their original author wasn't able/willing to support them any more. So yes, there are a lot of mods out there that are missing/hard to find. But none of them are likely to make a dramatic difference to your game.
PalmTech Posted May 17, 2019 Posted May 17, 2019 I've started trying to get into the habit of saving the mods into a backup directory first, and then installing them into my game from there. Unfortunately, I think I started this habit AFTER I last uninstalled Skyrim. If or when I ever reinstall Skyrim or Oblivion (I seem to remember Oblivion having better smut mods than Skyrim, but memory is fading on that.), it'll take probably a week, or at least a few days, to study up and re-learn how to mod it correctly.
