Tintmasks: Do I really need them? (orange-head)

Orange forehead was cured by emptying the tintmask folder like some guy said to, and CTRL-F4 the faces I care about.

But I've only seen One NPC and Player, and they look marvelous.

What will the rest of skyrim look like, or to put it another way, can I just permanently ditch the tintmasks?

skyrim\data\textures\Actors\character\character assets\tintmasks.

Several downloads are available, but if they look decent without them, I'm inclined to leave the folder empty.

Is that OK?

I wrote this 19 hours ago (it says) and since then Peaches has met several people, all of whom looked perfectly normal.

A skooma-whore had dark circles around her eyes, dispelling my notion that Tintmasks are a kind of makeup.

I still don't know what they are but I'm guessing, they're not all that important.

Barring some mod that crashes the game because they no longer exist......

has a solution it seems I should know, but it seems way too overdone, although it should work too.

The original solution the guy had about deleting everything in the tintmask folder seems to have worked, without any brain-surgery.

I think I'd equate it to aspirin vs drilling a head-hole, Both work.

But someone else knows issues I've only dreamed up, like,

does it affect "slavetats"?

I don't know. Confidentially, it's a requirement I can live without.

All high-res tintmasks do is make lipstick and eyeliner less pixelated, how noticeable this is depends on what resolution you're playing at and what face textures you use.

But, CK does not like high-res tintmasks and will export bad facegendata if they are in your data folder.

My usual solution to this is to rename the tintmasks folder when exporting facegendata in CK.

But if you don't notice lipstick/eyeliner being pixelated, you can just throw away your tintmasks from the data folder and let the game and CK use the low-res ones in the Skyrim BSA files.

Just done a quick experiment. No changes to anything except the Tintmask folder being missing or present.

No Tintmask folder

Tintmask folder back in place.

Obviously the image has gone from my screen res to .bmp to .jpg but in-game there was virtually no difference. There is more eye shadow on the lower eyelid in the No Tintmask image and I think the lipstick was slightly less glossy, making it look darker.
