But I guess it works because I am probably paranoid to keep it clean and tidy Apologies as this started in another thread I was curious how you keep a game going that long. My current game is around 200 hours (L18, I keep my level down as well) and aside from the main quest, Dawnguard and Dragonborn I'm pretty much done aside from a couple of bits for Winterhold and the Companions?
worik Posted February 22, 2019 Posted February 22, 2019 I guess it is quite a few factors ... ? Maybe I should write a bit more detail blog entry about it but since we're here ... Just a bit writing while thinking playing with PerMa and similar to shift the leveling playing with a few realism mods frostfall, wounds, BF, RND, CTD ... just to raise the bar and make me think twice about ruuning somewhere e.g. wounds+PO usually means that 2 days prison may lead to a few days of healing from the whipping bruises playing with shifted game clocks to get a feeling of distances and durations of things rising the danger level and still trying to survive and not reload a bad outcome not rushing through an adventure but making a single dungeon like Bleak Falls a difficult adventure that you have to prepare for getting a follower getting to know a follower (below the waistline) to make sure my PC/ I trusts the NPC crafting / sharpening a sword takes time packing food and water, bandages, ... not picking up any dangerous stuff in dungeons ... it might be .. hmmm cursed sustaining my life takes time and money stuff breaks, gets lost, stolen... If it is not handled by mods, I RP it mods that support my "living in skyrim" theme and give me radiant tasks to do and keep me busy quest mods that form the backbone of my story and also "occupy" me ... that's for a start, I guess
Grey Cloud Posted February 22, 2019 Posted February 22, 2019 Interesting question. My answer would be 'I don't know' though I do plan to take note of when I start and finish a game (one day). I doubt if I can go 13 weeks, never mind 13 months. If I were to guess I'd say about a month. If I weren't to guess I'd still say about a month. I only ever play for laughs and as you know, I don't do vanilla so my games tend to be a rolling circus which tours Skyrim in a roughly clock-wise direction, generally starting from Markarth. Because I don't do vanilla there are quite a few areas which I cannot access which means I'm not spending time there and I miss out on a fair amount of XP. I use a couple of mods which beef up the opposition (e.g. Revenge of the Enemies) and add more (e.g. OBIS and SIC) but even solo it's pretty simple once you get Fireball and the twin enchantment perk. I rarely get to level 70 or even L60. I never eat, drink or sleep and generally run everywhere so that reduces the time too. Also, shagging your way through a dungeon seems to take less time than fighting through (maybe that's just 'time flies when you're having fun').
Slorm Posted February 23, 2019 Author Posted February 23, 2019 I think I might just wander round Skyrim and poke around places I've not been before doing much more. I use Slower Skill Learning and POP to keep my level down but even at 18 I'm getting a little overpowered for the average bandits (even with Encounter Zones Unlocked) so I think I'll add Higher Level Enemies though I need to check it's okay to remove the added dwarven sphere's (they're more trouble than their worth for my sort of character) I think with this this approach I'll hopefully get another 50 - 100 hours maybe, otherwise time to start a new game.

A total game changer could be mods like "Run, Dragonborn run". Basic feature is it to make the enemy levels totally unpredictable. Even in the same dungeon. Might be worth a look for you. ? Furthermore I recommend Wounds. It works pretty well to keep me from being too careless.

I think ideally what I'd like is something that decreases bosses but increases hostile NPC's ability. You need a higher level to take on a dragon priest but then that makes the usual hostile NPC's (like bandits) too weak comparatively. It's tricky with balancing as it can make the early game too difficult (e.g. the mod Tougher Bandits makes L1 - L4 really evil) so maybe needs something to nerf the bosses a bit.
worik Posted February 24, 2019 Posted February 24, 2019 In that case Wounds is your friend If you configure it right, it doesn't matter that the horse kick is lowering your health by just 1% because you are way over it's level and you would ignore it any day. It breaks your rib. That's what will happen.
