most mods are plug an play thu you need script extender to work alot of them. installing mods is a breeze download thru nmm make sure you read them an what they need before install then install. run the game thru the skse plug in to see them in play. Now a good way to go installing mods is skse, patches, body, skeleton, animations ,npc overhauls,an then everything else. Get the loot tool an cbbe bodyslide as well as finis as there basic needed tools with nmm. install the ground work then test a few at A time to make sur your game runs right. Always launch thru the skse or lot of mods wont work.

Downloadings easy after skse just download install an play as long as you have everything it needs but silver locks script extender is your number one need.message me if you have direct questions ill try to help

Well there's some good advise here but if you really are just starting I think it's probably best to just tackle one thing at a time until you get the hang of things.

You said you want to make your character pretty so that's probably a good jumping off point, and probably how most of us here got started too.

First step is to pick a body type, for SSE the big choices are CBBE or UNP/UNPB (or I guess TBD if that's your thing ?). You can also use Bodyslide to shape any of those however you want (but UNP is not supported out of the box and you will need to take some steps to get it working that may make it not perfect for your first attempt).

Once you've settled on a body find a skin texture you like (they all come with default textures but generally people swap them out). Some great choices are Fair skinMature skin, and Leyenda skin, but there are plenty more on Nexus if you search "skin". Just make sure you get either the CBBE version or the UNP version depending on the body you picked.

After that's settled the next step is to get Racemenu or ECE to let you make prettier faces than the default character creation system will allow. Both of them require SKSE (Skyrim script extender) to work, but so do a ton of other things so it's worth getting. Download it from that link (make sure to get the version for SE) but it can't be installed with a mod manager, it has to be installed manually. There are guides about how to do it all over the place so if you get stuck try googling "skyrim skse install guide" or something to that effect and find one you like.

With all that done you should have all the tools to make yourself a pretty gal (or to use one of the presets available here or on the nexus)!

MelodyZE, really it is a lot of trial and error, something I recommend is only installing one mod at a time, then test it to make sure it works. For me, when I get into a game like Skyrim, I think I spend more time modding (and getting mods to work properly) then I spend playing the game.

Patience and persistence is key, just don't give up and you will get your game looking and running exactly how you want. And ask questions, everyone has to start somewhere.

My honest opinion is to work through a guide such as NORDIC, and only install the CORE and Y mods (the ones in green being the core mods and the mods he suggests using). This will take time to do, but it will teach you how to mod, as well as the different types of mods and most importantly, as long as you only get the CORE and Y mods, you will have a stable game - then you add on with the mods you want to add afterwards.

This is probably the best thing for someone new to modding to do, as it will teach you how to mod and what to do and what not to do.

EDIT:

If you decide to do the NORDIC guide, fair warning, it is an extremely long guide - I have been working it for two days and am maybe half way through. But this guide does have a bunch of mods that are found on LoversLab.
