12 is indeed the max i believe.

That's unfortunate.  But as a workaround I could just combine some of  my favorite tat pairings into a single tat and make them their own thing in the json file.  That would save on some room.  But I'd have to pick my favorites and such.  Maybe someday there will be a mod to expand it further.

I have 32 for body and 12 for head, hands and feet. I not know if that have any limit.

Mine looks like this:

[Overlays/Body] ; "Body [Ovl#]" and "Body [SOvl#]"
; Determines how many body overlays there should be
iNumOverlays=20 ; Default[6]
iSpellOverlays=1 ; Default[1]

[Overlays/Hands] ; "Hands [Ovl#]" and "Hands [SOvl#]"
; Determines how many hand overlays there should be
iNumOverlays=8 ; Default[3]
iSpellOverlays=1 ; Default[1]

[Overlays/Feet] ; "Feet [Ovl#]" and "Feet [SOvl#]"
; Determines how many feet overlays there should be
iNumOverlays=8 ; Default[3]
iSpellOverlays=1 ; Default[1]

[Overlays/Face] ; "Face [Ovl#]" and "Face [SOvl#]"
; Determines how many face overlays there should be
iNumOverlays=12 ; Default[3]
iSpellOverlays=1 ; Default[1]

But in the MCM I only see 12 for the body.

How do you do this if you are using MO2 ? I am limited in my understanding on computers, do you have a link or video how to add more to the body , Thanks

It is a little different in Skyrim SE:

There is no seperate NIOveride.ini anymore; you will find the same settings in the skee64.ini at the same location(folder).

Help not sure where to find that folder, is it in the game folder ? I use MO2 , Thanks

Navigate to your racemenu mod folder in MO2, inside the SKSE folder should contain the skse64.ini. Just change to the value Aki K gave. It should look something like this
