REALWaterHours Posted October 7, 2024 Posted October 7, 2024 I always play the Villain route because at the end of the day? It's just more fun. During my first playthroughs of a game (Especially something like BG3) I will usually teeter back towards either the chaotic neutral or lawful good area, but after I've got my taste of how the world works and how the consequences work, I usually default right back into evil characters. I'd define them as usually Lawfully Evil because running around and murdering everything just isn't very stimulating to me. Once you push past the "I'm hurting these characters I love I'm so sorry." (Forgive me, Veronica.) inhibition you can immediately have a shitload of fun breaking normal rules in exchange for doing what your character would do. Having characters that crossed me or are going to get in the way in the future becoming targets instead of being an obstacle course you need to teeter around is just a lot of fun to me. I still remember my favorite character; A Ghoul gunslinger that sided with the Legion. I killed dear Daniel in Honest Hearts (I would've merked Joshua but I didn't realize he immediately despawned AND I didn't have a mod for him to stay, RIP), massacred everyone in the Sierra Madre, cleansed everyone from Old World Blues and sent nuclear hellfire to the NCR while standing over Ulysses' corpse. HELIOS didn't survive, neither did most of the NCR Camps (Including Golf), Freeside got thrown into chaos when Pacer was killed by "NCR Troopers"...Man, I just go on and on. That said, you don't need to side with the absolute evil factions to play an evil character, and you don't need to not care about anything. You can have biases towards some companions/factions/npcs and tell the rest to fuck off. For instance on that character that was an absolute menace, I still sided w/ Goodsprings instead of the Powder Gangers because my character isn't going to put a bullet in the head of the people that were willing to help him find his footing again. But yea, I love playing the bad guy

porkybork Posted October 14, 2024 Posted October 14, 2024 For video games, usually play as a good guy the first time around, and then do an evil playthrough afterwards if I liked the game enough. For TTRPGs, I usually play as a neutral or good character since it can be harder to play in a cohesive group if you’re an evil character and everyone else is some flavor of good. Unless it’s a one-shot, then I don’t care as much. 3
Panther Benz Posted January 1, 2025 Posted January 1, 2025 I prefer to play as good characters, but sometimes on a 2+ playthrough I play as a clearly evil char. Helps me to see content that I missed before or sometimes maybe just release the steam after stresses IRL
fellowthatch783 Posted June 24 Posted June 24 Fair enough—it's probably due to generally accepted norms.
FauxFurry Posted July 5 Posted July 5 Right now, I go with Evil that unconvincingly tries to justify itself to to others as 'free' or 'quirky'.
Wandering_Mania Posted July 20 Posted July 20 It really depends on the game. Like in Skyrim, it would be 'Evil-ish' because I join/lead the Volkahar clan. Join/lead the Dark Brotherhood, same with the thieves guild. But I also am very disciplined on who I 'pick off' as a vampire. In Mass Effect: LE (also was done in the original Trilogy), I always go Paragon. Because in Mass 2, I can't stand the scene where Shep yells at Tali and Legion, with the Renegade option. Though I do abandon the workers in Zieed's loyalty quest; Because even 1 unloyal squad mate can make a world of difference. In Fallout, however... It's mostly just Evil. When I played FO3, I was a REAL Asshole. I helped out the slavers in Paradise Falls with EVERYTHING (If you know you know). In FO:NV I support the NCR, and I think we all know that they are one of the 2 TRUE evil forces in the Mojave, alongside the Legion. And in FO4 I support the BoS. Yet again, going with the 'Path of Order' via an 'Oppressive Government System'. In Neverwinter Nights; It really depends on the class combo that I want to play. If Paladin/Cleric to start, then Blackguard later. It's good until level X, then full asshole from there on out. So yeah, it all just depends on the game in question.
Hoobu Posted July 21 Posted July 21 So I play Fallout 4 using Mantella I have my own llm server running a Gemma 4 12B uncensored (I mean really uncensored ) I have all the sex related mods My last scenario was I got sick of Myrna's paranoid synth shit so I kidnapped her and transported her to the Institute where through human resources I turned her into a hooker and let everyone in the place fuck her whenever they wanted (I had it set to radiant dialogue so every npc knew what was going on ) she was crying and howling through the whole ordeal until she had a Ai nervous breakdown where it pretty well cluster fucked and she started speaking gibberish. It was very satisfying
Coding_Onion Posted July 21 Posted July 21 Bit of a rant incoming. Sorry in advance. I feel like most games just don't really allocate a lot of effort in making 'evil' choices compelling in a narrative sense. Often, it's just kind of the contrarian option where you just go 'unga-bunga' and smash digital toys for short-term-gratification (which can be fun, but it's comparable to a junkfood-high). That being said, even though i haven't played through it myself, i find the funniest tidbit in that regard is a romance option from an rpg where at one point it is revealed that the subject of your affection is, in 'conventional' terms, batshit insane/utterly impulsive behind the demure façade they keep and gets a kick out of killing people in general (unreated to the fact if they 'deserve' it or not). You are then presented with the option to either be a 'morally responsible' person/take the high ground or... say 'fuck it, they are hot, it's so worth it' and just roll with it which leads to a wild-ride-type of romance (with a lot of colateral damage). Probably one of the more relatable motivations for doing 'evil' i have encountered as opposed to collecting red-aura buffs. If i remember correctly embracing the bhaal route in Baldures Gate 3 is also an interesting challenge since your repertoire of abilities/teammates is limited by virtue of having a bad mojo and the story gets turned into a 'me against everyone' narrative. But, yeah, goody-two-shoes is usually the more satisfying experience by virtue of writing/story-themes/design, especially if there is some wiggleroom left to not just play a 'lawful-stupid' kind of character.
porkybork Posted July 22 Posted July 22 I’m a forever DM, so I have to be lawful neutral. Unless I’m drunk DMing, then I’m chaotic chaos.

The most compelling Evil options often are no true option at all, those being the choice of various degrees or kinds of evil in Tyranny and the Overlord games. 1

There's usually a way to get the rewards from the evil path without triggering anything the game deems 'evil' too. So there's rarely any sacrifice in being good.
Wretched_Abyss Posted July 24 Posted July 24 Good or Evil ? I play a morally grey sociopath in my RPG's unless they force me to feel bad but it breaks Immersion. I enjoy collecting items no matter the cost and becomeing a god. I might help you if it benifits me. Or I might ruin your characters life for a cool nick-knack. Had one mod that would judge my character in skyrim and when the script updated she went from "Nice to meet you" to "You Monster never talk to me again" in like 10 seconds. So I guess Evil , but when playing the character, I don't feel evil.

You should try one of the Ai api's for Skyrim I have done many god playthroughs,I proved it easy by singling out a NPC in the group and kill command them then resurrect while the are still aware and the NPC then do what I tell them I ran one of my dialogue logs through Ai and it said I should seek some mental health help but that's the point of roleplay is to be the person you are not or never could be 1

I told someone that this lesson would be good for something or someone or something that feels no attachment like AI and they looked at me like I was a psychopath. Its been a while since I got into modding Skyrim. I would need to relearn alot of skills and acquire some new ones. I started to enjoy tinkering more then playing now LMFAO ill get a modest modlist going the dream combo LOTD , Seasons, Mild tasteful NSFW going then brick it get busy and forget everything so I might as well start over. Ill probably finish my mod before I play another playthrough of skyrim or LOTD. But Certain AI features I need arn't quite good enough for that so more waiting LOL 1
