[SOLVED] Texture Problems with HDT Skirts Mod

Recommended Posts

I have an HDT Skirts mod for SSE. I do not remember where I got it, which is why I linked it here. The mod contains several colors in three style categories- plaid, plain and plain with a stripe all around just above the hemline. They move semi-realistically with my HDT-SMP-SE physics system.

The problem is that when I face North or South, the front of the skirt (all variants of it) goes from too-bright to jet black. It looks pretty much the same with my ENB turned off, just a bit less intense. Here are a couple of pics that show the problem (warning- one of the images is NSFW):

Facing south- front of skirt blacked out

I would really like to use these flouncy skirts but this issue greatly diminishes my enthusiasm. Does anyone know how I might go about troubleshooting/solving this problem?

OK, and is there any way of telling in advance which meshes need the normals flipped (other than ugly black splotches visible in-game)? What I mean is, when you open the mesh in NifSkope is there anything you can see there in NifSkope or is it all down to in-game testing, looking for black spots?

Again, thank you for doing that and for telling me what you did- as it happens I have a new SMP wig with ugly black splotches on it and I'm going to try this fix on it right away!!

Part of mesh will be darker in NifScope.

Well, reality has reared its ugly head and harshed my mellow...

Firstly, I'm dealing with BSTriShapes (for SSE) in case that matters. Secondly, although I can't see it in your screenshot, I'm assuming you have highlighted a NiTriShape and not a NiNode. Thirdly, I have right-clicked on every node/block/shape/partition in my skirts mesh (the one you fixed) and although I have a "Mesh" option, the only option under that is Update Tangent blah blah gobble gobble... not "Flip Normals." And finally, I have literally explored every option I can find (although by this time, wine was involved and so I could easily have missed one or two...) I even *gasp* scanned the NifTools documentation looking for "Normals and How To Flip Them" but alas, they're keeping it a secret.

So, I didn't find any Flippable (or flippant) Normals at all. Possibly "Normals" are like affordable houses in California- you can flip 'em if you can find 'em?

Finally, I googled "NifSkope Flip Normals" and came up with several hits (and some hilarious misses) but all of the hits were people ASKING about it, and I didn't see any actual answers being given as to exactly where to find the function in NifSkope- so Google didn't lead me to any Flippin' Normals. When you have a moment, would you mind steering me in the general direction of my nearest Normals Flipper dealer so I can stock up on the elusive little buggers in case I ever need one in the future?

Also, should I be concerned that your NifSkope and my NifSkope look like they were made in different factories on different continents in different centuries with no blueprint sharing allowed? There's almost nothing in common between them! Maybe it's not working for me because my render pane is a slooty tasteful shade of eyeball-searing hot pink?

Thanks.

oops
For Skyrim SE "Face normals" works.

As for pink meshes - it'sbecause I disable textures rendering to see mesh itself
