PunktheKing Posted November 9, 2018 Posted November 9, 2018 So I tried to manually install a tattoo mod, and that failed. I normally use NMM and for a while I've been having ctds due to said tattoo mod. I fixed the ctd by verifying the integrity of my files but now no matter what I install on NMM, it won't show. Which means no matter how many times I try to install a custom race or hairstyle, it won't show. My characters are headless with floating eyes and mouths and none of the hairstyles I installed show up when I customize vanilla races. Also my screen, when playing as a custom race, flickers in and out for some odd reason. I've never come across this problem before, and the only thing I haven't tried reinstalling is NMM itself. Is that the solution?
Psalam Posted November 9, 2018 Posted November 9, 2018 “How often have I said to you that when you have eliminated the impossible, whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth?” -Sir Arthur Conan Doyle Might I suggest, in addition, that if you do decide to start over you might want to look at Donttouchmethere's excellent blog about doing just that (it should help you from missing anything of importance. It is found here:
PunktheKing Posted November 10, 2018 Author Posted November 10, 2018 I cleaned it and I'm still getting these problems. Could it be that the mods are going into a different folder or something?
Grey Cloud Posted November 10, 2018 Posted November 10, 2018 What is the tattoo mod? Does NMM give any error messages when you try to install something?
Friedboi Posted November 10, 2018 Posted November 10, 2018 So this may not be related entirely, but I had an issue where the only thing would load floating eyes and maybe some other items in the background. Basically, my anti-analizing was messing up the whole game so I turned it off via options from the steam launcher. Your game also could have conflicting textures or meshes. I'd look into finding some apps that can help organizer it.
PunktheKing Posted November 10, 2018 Author Posted November 10, 2018 I had to give up and reinstall my game on a new flash drive but for some reason I'm running into the same problem where even manually installing the mods doesn't install them. I have no idea what to do at this point.
Psalam Posted November 10, 2018 Posted November 10, 2018 Sounds like it's time to reinstall Skyrim from Steam.
PunktheKing Posted November 10, 2018 Author Posted November 10, 2018 Yeah that worked. But no matter what I do I can't get this race mod to work: https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/88539?tab=description

That's what I do in that setting. (That's a lie. Sometimes I do that. Usually I just dump the offending mod and move on).
PunktheKing Posted November 11, 2018 Author Posted November 11, 2018 I kind of got it to work but now I'm running into a problem where chargen presets aren't available. That can't be due to the race mod, can it?

That can't be due to the race mod, can it? As with so many things in Skyrim, in theory it shouldn't happen. Sadly, practice is a different matter entirely. Any mod can affect any other mod that comes before it in the load order (and probably will). This is the reason that so many mod authors want you to put their mod at the end of the order. In that location no other mod is going to "mess it up." Of course, that can lead to all kinds of difficulties with all the mods that come before it when that mod messes all of them up.
PunktheKing Posted November 11, 2018 Author Posted November 11, 2018 How would I find out which mod is doing it?
PunktheKing Posted November 11, 2018 Author Posted November 11, 2018 I checked this problem also exists with vanilla races.

What is often recommended, but is not as certain as it sounds is this. Go into your game and find someone whose has clearly lost their presets (i.e., has "gray face bug.") Open up your console and click on them. Their stats should be visible. Low down, on the right hand side there is an entry that says something like "last modified by." and should have a mod listed. As I said, that is a place to start looking although not certain.
PunktheKing Posted November 11, 2018 Author Posted November 11, 2018 I figured it out, thank you so much for your help!
