Should I finish the main quest before modding?

As long as you know how to tickle a dragon cock, you'll be fine.

A ticklish dragon

lol

Kyne save us all.

Back on topic. I don't think it really matters as the stories are rather a mess. There are some good shots for pictures and fun bits of lore in places you least expect them.

Chances are if you start modding now you will never finish the main quest, either that or it will take you a good 80 extra hours once you get side-tracked with everything else.

Probably. Myself, I've never beaten Skyrim. I've beaten the 2 DLCs, but never the main story. I get bored with over powered characters or come up with new ideas for a play thru and abandon my latest game. Plus with constantly changing load lists, reloading an old save to try and continue, need to figure out which mods were enabled.

So yeah, beat the game first, then mod it and delve into the wonderful world of mods.

So that you experience a great "vanilla" game on your first play-through, use lore-friendly mods to maximize the game's audio-visual content (enb, weather, bigger trees, more ambient sounds, 4k retextures of everything (mountains, leaves, armors, dragons, rugs, book covers, etc.).  This will take a modding noob 20-50 hours to set up but will give you your only opportunity to make the game "put its best foot forward".

If you don't do that before your first play-through, then "when?"  Will you replay the vanilla game in order to experience it a second time but with better audio-visuals?  I tried that but lost interest.  For me, on a second play-through, the game became tedious.  Especially because, between play-throughs years apart, I played an even older Bioware game that lacked good visuals but IMO packaged far better writing and voice acting.

Dilemma lets you outright kill the Blades while Ultimatum gives you a chance to intimidate Delphine into submission

Are you sure about this? I haven't got that far yet, but I always thought it's the Dilemma that lets you intimidate Delphine.

The Parthurnaax Dilemma does let the Dragon-Born browbeat Delphine into backing down. The other mods don't seem to be necessary for that anymore.
