Darkening Demise Posted June 29, 2018 Posted June 29, 2018 Figure go for more RAM rather than upgrading to an SSD for games. My hard drive is doing good still so this felt more important. Figure more RAM means faster load times and better performance over an SSD making a difference right? I got 8GB DDR3 1333Mhz right now and looking at the following below. With a link to the motherboard I use as well. Just need to make sure things are going to work before ordering. Don't want the mistake like I did with my graphics card not working with my monitor so I had to buy an adapter and now stuck at 59 fresh rate instead of 60. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00453R90W/?coliid=I19XG2U8PHGKS8&colid=2M0NCL28U63K1&psc=0&ref_=lv_ov_lig_dp_it https://pcpartpicker.com/product/BLW9TW/asrock-motherboard-z97anniversary
pinky6225 Posted June 29, 2018 Posted June 29, 2018 They are both DDR3 so yes that will work, i would doubt you will see a tangible gain from going from 8 GB DDR3 @ 1333 to 16 GB DDR @ 1866 though Wont hurt obviously but i doubt it would be a noticeable improvement either in benchmarks or in a game itself SSD prolly wouldnt be either (didnt find myself other than boot times) but i did read that having large amounts of RAM is good if you are using SSD as it prolongs the life as its not writing stuff to the SSD as much so if you were to go SSD at a later date might help you out there
flatliner10 Posted July 1, 2018 Posted July 1, 2018 Here is the QVL For your board: http://www.asrock.com/mb/Intel/Z97 Anniversary/#Memory The Specific Model you have Linked is not listed, and therefore not tested by ASRock. Might still work, but i would advise to stick to any of the "verified working" ones, if you want to play safe. I don't think you will actually feel any improvement from going from 1333 to 1866, and having MORE Memory is only really useful if you manage to use up almost everything you have right now... Sure it wont do any harm - if your Memory modules work with this Board. You will definitively feel the impact an SSD will have, coming from a HDD, and if you want to increase their lifespan, more Memory is beneficial. Windows always use the Main-drive for Swapping around Data, when it runs low on Memory, increasing write operations on SSD's. I limited my Virtual Memory (Swapfile) to 1024 MB, having 16 Gig RAM and a SSD. Don't recommend turning it off completely, can have strange side effects.
