Pill Diagnostic Kiosk

For X-Change Life 0.25.9

The Pill Diagnostic Kiosk adds a paid diagnostic service to the mall capable of examining the PC for active transformation pills, drugs, and side effects.

It was originally created as an expansion of the old BR Pills diagnostic kiosk for use with Spike Fun. The current version has been substantially expanded around Drug Framework 4 and the newer U666 effect systems.

If you've been drugged with something you didn't identify—or simply can't remember which combination of pills, drugs, and side effects you're currently dealing with—the Kiosk gives you an in-game way to find out.

Requirements

  • Pill Diagnostic Kiosk MEDIA v0.11.0 or newer

Drug Framework 4 is strongly recommended and enables the Kiosk's DF4 drug diagnostics.

The Kiosk can still diagnose ordinary transformation pills and side effects without DF4 drug data being present.

What It Detects

A diagnostic scan can report several different categories.

Transformation Pills

The Kiosk can detect the PC's current X-Change-class transformation and attempt to identify the active product.

It can also give a rough estimate of how long the transformation has left.

Special conditions may produce additional warnings—for example, when the Kiosk cannot find a normal reversion window or something appears to be interfering with ordinary pill expiration.

A successful scan also identifies a transformation that the PC previously did not know.

Drug Framework 4 Drugs

When Drug Framework 4 is installed, the Kiosk scans active DF4 drugs separately from transformation pills.

For each active drug it can report:

  • product identity;

  • approximate remaining duration;

  • a drug-specific diagnostic profile, when provided by that drug;

  • additional custom diagnostic information supplied by compatible mods.

Previously unidentified active drugs become identified by the scan.

That knowledge remains available until the final active dose of that drug clears.

Side Effects

The Kiosk can also report active side-effect signatures.

Compatible effects may provide both a readable name and a description of what the effect is doing.

Older or third-party effects without diagnostic information can still be detected, although the Kiosk may have less useful information to give you about them.

Where Did That Effect Come From?

Drug Framework 4 can track the source of compatible side effects.

When that information is available, the Kiosk can tell you that an effect appears to be associated with a particular drug or other known exposure.

If the source has not yet been identified, the Kiosk reports it as an unidentified exposure instead.

It can also warn when the tracked source indicates a possible permanent or persistent effect.

This becomes particularly useful when several different drugs or pills are affecting the PC at the same time.

Using the Kiosk

A diagnostic scan costs $100.

The Kiosk only offers a paid scan when it detects something relevant, such as:

  • an active transformation;

  • an active DF4 drug;

  • an active side effect.

You cannot repeatedly rescan the exact same unchanged set of signatures during the same game time period.

If something changes—a new drug is added, an effect appears or disappears, or the transformation changes—the new state can be scanned.

Where Is It?

Without Knockoff Pharmacy installed, the diagnostic service appears at the X-Change Pharmacy.

If Knockoff Pharmacy is installed, the Kiosk instead appears at Pill Poppa, where the gray-market drug and knockoff-pill focus makes considerably more sense.

You do not need both locations.

Spike Fun

The Pill Diagnostic Kiosk is strongly recommended for Spike Fun, but Spike Fun does not require it.

Spike Fun deliberately includes situations where the PC may not know what they were given.

The Kiosk provides an in-universe way to investigate those unknown pills, drugs, and effects rather than relying on out-of-character information.

Drug Framework 4

Drug Framework integration is where most of the Kiosk's newer functionality comes from.

DF4 allows compatible products to provide:

  • drug names and display names;

  • active duration information;

  • identification state;

  • diagnostic descriptions;

  • custom diagnostic passages;

  • side-effect source attribution.

The Kiosk reads that information and turns it into a player-facing diagnostic report.

Installation

Install both:

  • U666 Pill Diagnostic Kiosk

  • U666 Pill Diagnostic Kiosk MEDIA

The media package is required by the current Kiosk release.

Install both through Mod Loader.

If you also use Drug Framework 4, Knockoff Pharmacy, or Spike Fun, the Kiosk will automatically use the integrations they provide.

Recommended With

  • Drug Framework 4 — adds DF4 drug identification and diagnostic information

  • Spike Fun — provides many situations where identifying an unknown exposure is useful

  • Knockoff Pharmacy — relocates the service to Pill Poppa

  • U666 Drugs — compatible drugs can provide detailed diagnostic profiles

  • U666 Effects CORE — compatible effects can provide richer diagnostic information
